two recently retired HOF...
one retired undefeated... the other one retired as the lone holder of titles in 6 different weights & one of the biggest moneymakers in the history of this sport...
who has had the better career in terms of accomplishments? the greater resume?
De La Hoya... easily, no disrespect to Calzaghe he has achieved a lot... but De La Hoya achieved more and fought everyone, he might have lost some of them... but there still on his resume.
Oscar absolutely point blank refused to fight southpaws until Pac, then got the shit kicked out of him. Yeah, Oscar is amazing and ducked nobody!
aside from winky and maybe kostya , oscar fought everyone that would have made him money.
oscar was about the money not about ducking.
if he could make money fighting you he would.
DLH by far. Odd question.
yeah its odd... but then again, i have read cliff rold's article on both...
he stated calzaghe as an ATG... & oscar a "mere" HOF... here it is again...
for oscar's case... http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&id=17277
for joe... http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&id=16920
almost nobody agrees in this particular thread though..
dlh never met great fighter w/ a good upside he didn't wanna fight.
calz never met a great fighter that he didn't wanna duck

calzaghe wasn't 37 10 years ago either.
Calzaghe's first big Fight was 3/4/06 against Jeff Lacey. So for about 9 years since he got the Title from Eubank, that is his first big fight. And that is because Lacey TRIED to Unify, something Calzaghe wasn't doing to protect his 0.
Ten years ago Calzaghe fought Rick Thornberry/David Staire/ and Sheika.
The only thing that Calzaghe fans have to say that they feel makes Calzaghe an ATG is his undefeated record. If he had one loss, he would be forgotten for having a BUM belt (WBO) for TEN years and not trying to get the other belts.
Have the WBC WBA IBF and fight real fighters in your so called TITLE RUN. That title run shouldn't even be considered great by just what title it is. He fought Bums with a Bum belt.
uh huh......you do know that hopkins and roy wasn't in their 40's 10 years ago right?
just asking.
Yeah. Jones wasn't in his 40s when Calzaghe beat him either.
why? because he beat kelly pavlik? kelly pavlik is not that good. what makes pavlik so good? because he beat taylor? what makes taylor so good? because he beat hopkins? it's just a circle jerk.
hopkins if he was anywhere close to being half as good as he was would not have lost to jermain taylor twice.
Pavlik isnt that bad, sometimes people confuse not having great boxing skill with making you a bad fighter.
Pavlik isnt technically great at all, but he is effective and he can follow a gameplan, taylor couldn't that's why he lost, Holt couldn't a few weeks ago, thats why he lost, some fighters can stick to it, some can't.
You get naturally talented fighters that aren't great at the basics and get beat by lesser talented fighters, the ability to think under pressure, stick to a plan and be good at boxing basics shouldn't be underestimated.
Pavlik, Kessler et al, these guys are good at the bread and butter of boxing (Kessler for sure), they aint flashy, but they can get it done.
Really??? How do you know this? Calzaghe would have been a match for any fighter from MW-LHW in the last 10 years.
uh huh......you do know that hopkins and roy wasn't in their 40's 10 years ago right?

Chavez was done when Oscar beat him, his hunger wasn't there. Hopkins was and still is a top 5 p4per the fact he was 42 means nothing.
