I was reading an article in The Ring magazine about Vic Darchinyan. In the peice, they mentioned that Vic wants to fight Izzy, but it might not be possible.
'Unfortunately, Vazquez may never get medical clearance to fight again. He's had three detached retina eye surgeries.'
That, my friends, would suck. Not sure if this is ENTIRELY news to anyone else, just thought it was worth mentioning.
I certainly don't want Israel to risk even more long term injury. But a selfish side of me says if he were able to come back for one more fight, it should be to pass the torch to JuanMa.
Add another one... im with you guys as well. As fans, yeah we want to be selfish, but in regards to their health, its best for them stay away then. I'll never forget their epic trilogy, my kids will one day see that.
Those three fights took a lot out of them. If they decided to retire, I would completely understand. I wish them both the best. They gave some great fights to watch.
Well thats a lame excuse to duck Juanma:purity:
it's not a lame excuse. if he's having those problems he should stay out of the ring. health first than anything else.
besides...i think juanma should do some easy fights right now and then go for the big boys. no need to hurry
that fuking suck... Izzy is one of my fav active fighters. Izzy had too many wars in this career. Hope he retires, don't wanna see him getting hurt in the ring.
he said he was willing to fight him, why wouldnt he? he obviously cant now.
Like I said, if he cant fight then he cant fight, but what Calderon (from boxscene) is saying that he might fight Darchinyan, that's a different story.
Fight has been mentioned since he beat Mijares and sounded more likely after Arce. Not so sure that would bring him more money than unification vs Juanma, would have to see how much is the difference. Vic is a smaller fighter, so it better be a big difference.
Plenty of fighters have taken on smaller guys, because the fans would rather see it. Darchinyan is a big draw. People underestimate his drawing power. (Keep in mind, when I say draw about virtually anyone, I mean with the right opponent.)
He and Arce, 5,450 fans for their fight. Which is a couple of tickets above what Cris Arreola, Winky Wright and Paul Williams were able to draw last night.
Vazquez has a loyal following now, as well. If that fight took place in California, which has a HUGE Mexican fanbase, as well as a fairly large Armenian fanbase, that fight could do well over 5,000 tickets sold. They could both fight to make some BIG paydays.
At THIS stage in Juanma's career, I don't think he can offer that up. Not yet. That's not Vazquez' fault.
Sad to hear that. Vazquez is one of my favorites. real humble guy and a great Warrior.
I was hoping for Juanma vs Vazquez, but I guess, it wont happend. Now Juanma is fukk, because besides Marquez or Vazquez, no one brings money or will be competitive at the weight. Juanma will have to fight gerry fight Caballero(Legacy purpose, Juama KOs him faster than he will Gerry) and Move to 26 and take over, the only guy who would give him problems at 126 is John, because of his long arms and good boxing. and Maybe Juarez because he have a good chin the rest He KTTFO. I guess Juanmas tough challlenge will be at 130 and Im not sure, because Soto is moving to LW.
LOL at the retaqrds saying Vazquez is ducking Juama, thats absurd. The dude is a warrior and ducks nobody!!!!!!!!1
This man knows the deal.
Darchinyan would offer him more money. And that fight has been close to happening for a while.

He ducked Manny Pacquiao.
You claim that all Mexican posters are biased. Look at your sig, for the record.
Second of all, he didn't. He was willing, wanted to do it before Manny moved up. Vazquez isn't stupid. He knows he can't go up to 135-147 and be successful. He gave up on the idea.
That's not ducking someone. He doesn't want to fight Wladimir Klitschko either, add him to the list.
Depends who it is and how much money he could make vs Juanma. I know Arum is more than willing to open up his bank for this one, better be A BIG difference, else yes, he's ducking him.

So, if he had a miracle surgery 6 months from now and he decided to go for the biggest money he could find in what could still be his last fight, you'd consider it ducking Juanma?

Never said he ducked anyone, I said I respect him, I like him, just saying that if he decides to retire that's fine with me, but I don't wanna see him fight anyone else in that case.

He been in WARS. Lopez was to be his third fight on his short list. I don't consider that ducking someone. 2 vicious trilogies, A couple of fights of the year, many fight of the year candidates, comebacks during fights and now the surgery. So he wanted to get some big wins for some big money to let the young lion build before they fought.
Nothing CLOSE to a duck.
C/S.. plus everyone has to admit VIC D is the biggest name with a big following.. of course Vazquez would have liked that fight first..
I like Juanma, I think he does have a lor of promise, he beat a dangerous puncher in DeLeon really bad,but vazquez isn't afraid to get in the ring with him..too bad this injury won't let that showdown ever happen...
According to some posters Juanma has fought nobodies and a weak champion. Ill let you guess who they are.....
They're posters who aren't getting the point.
Juanma is a GREAT champion, if you care about ABC belts, and is willing to fight anyone. Smooth boxer, great puncher and has excelled with any test.
However, he hasn't fought the best opposition yet. He still DOES have to prove himself. I happen to be of the school of thought that says he will succeed. Nonetheless, that doesn't mean it's happened yet.
Nonetheless, if Izzy wanted to let that build, while he made made money that he deserved on the last leg of his career, that's not ducking someone.
For the record, if those 'posters' you refer to are people I'd assume you think are idiots, why would you sink to that level?

Come on man, be real. I know you're a Puerto Rican, and a supporter of Lopez's. That's cool.
But do you honestly see Vazquez as the type to duck anybody? The man is all warrior.
If he can't fight, he can't fight.
Why risk his quality of life and possibly his vision just to prove a point?
He ducked Manny Pacquiao.
