Even though i like Tommy a lot more, i think Jones clearly has the greater achievements. He won more legitimate title in more weight divisions and he did it against better opponents. Hearns fought the better opponents where as Jones actually won those big fights. Tommy has not beaten anyone who was as good as Hopkins or Toney, two all time greats that were still in their physical prime. Hurts to say it though.
Hearns losses were to some ATGs. I vividly remember a certain someone getting KTFO in the 2nd by Tarver. Hearns might just do RJJ in. RJJ was great but his skills were way superior to all of his opponents. He really didn't fight anyone on his level in terms of skill. Hearns has the skill to match RJJ.
A real deal, undisputed sextuple champion as well as being the first sextuple champion. Welterweight, Light middleweight, Middleweight, Super middleweight, Light heavyweight and Cruiserweight champion. Going from WW to CW? He is undoubtly p4p GOAT.
Who else was a sextuple champion? Hector Camacho, DLH, and James Toney.
/Thread.
Well if the first Leonard fight had been 12 rounds, Hearns had tried to outbox Hagler rather than slug with him, had Tommy not been robbed in the second Leonard fight and maybe just stayed away from Barkley (and of course not fought into his 40's,) he wouldn't have this glass jaw stigma and his ATG status would be MUCH higher. As it is I'd say Roy, though Tommy does have a slightly better resume.
Hearns got his ass handed to him in his prime. Albeit to good fighters, roy wasn't even close to losing in his prime and he was more powerful at 168 than anyone. Roy would have made thomas look like richard hall if they fought at their peaks. Except hall would have been able to take more punishment.
Comparing Richard Hall to a prime Thomas Hearns. :ugh:
P4P it would be a very good match-up but Hearns was at his best as a welterweight and a light middleweight while Jones was at his best as a super middle.
on a straight pound for pound basis... Roy by a CITY mile
I agree both fighters did win alot of titles at diff weights. I have to give Roy bc of his move to HW. In the ring an awsome fight. Roy could catch hearns on the chin with a leaping right or a check left hook. Going the distance would be even better but i give it to roy very narrowly.
Neither are the GOAT, Hearns is closer.his name is muhammad ali, he wouldnt like youNo his name is is Sugar Ray Robinson, and he's dead.
Ali would agree with me.
Neither are the greatest of all time, but I'd probably give the edge to Hearns between the two.
I agree as far as resume. But against each other it'd be competitive IMO. Roy cud deff tap Hearns' chin.
Roy was much more naturally gifted between the two, but I honestly see Hearns taking it because of the competition he faced..not by much but a little IMO...
Hearns must take this one.
They both won many titles at many weights. Both were beat by underdogs.
Hearns has the bigger wins.
Head to head though, Jones by KO.
