but at what point do we give Roger credit for developing Floyd into the professional fighter he is? Floyd Sr has only briefly had Jr as a professional fighter while Roger has led Jr's helm for a lot longer.
granted I understand he is the one who showed Floyd how to box when he was a kid but I got to think credit for Jr's pro career belongs to Uncle Roger and not Sr.
and as for my choices.
for strategy- Nacho. He develops solid game plans and backups for his fighters. He sees a fight and makes adjustments accordingly.
for heart and effort- Roach- he puts everything he has into creating his fighter and IMO I think its taken a toll on his body
underated- Rudy Perez and Joe Goossen. Rudy made Israel Vazquez a better fighter than Roach did. Joe is very good at communicating.
You look at RJJ and what his dad did. Sr did the same for JR. Roger further enhanced what Sr. did. I'm sure Roger picked up some things from Sr. as well. I would go for either of them actually. What has taken a toll on Roach is the years of hitting fighters in the fist with his face. I agree with you about Nacho. He has a great mind.
Ideally, I would like Nacho to be my trainer, he makes boxers fight with the most precise technique I have seen in the ring , EVER. If he were my trainer naturally he'd be in my corner, and he works cuts pretty good too. Aside from that, he is very descriptive (in spanish) in direction.
i picked roach for the poll, but the trainer i would like in my corner would be Joe Goossen. He doesnt bullshit you, and he'll tell it how it is, but at the same time he has confidence that you can win. Good motivator.
I rather train with Sr. because of his defensive knowledge and tactics.
However, I rather have Nazim or Roach in my corner during fights. I cant understand shit Sr. says and you cant go wrong with advice from Nazim during rounds or Roach's calm approach to make you relax inbetween rounds.
I dont know they are all great trainers. However, in my corner I rather have someone level headed so they can talk to me properly and I can understand them.
Not "jajahjha bam with the right then jahfjdsbas straight."
I'd take Floyd Sr from the choices here. I think no one can deny his knowledge as evidence of Jr.s development. If it were me or my son I'd pick Emmanuel Stewart. If his fighter's actually does what he instructs (jermain Taylor and Kermit Cintron) He would be considered more on this list.

depends on where you are in your career.
if you're an old dude go with nazim richardson
if you need some star power behind you w/ some good mitt work go w/ floyd sr.
if you're looking for a long term loyal trainer who will develop you, go w/ roach
if you're a young mexican go w/ nacho w/ raw talent
if you're a cotto-wanna go w/ evangelista.
Rather have Roach in my corner, Floyd Sr isn't someone I would get on well with as he personally makes me sick, he is crude and classless. I don't really like beratting opposition either.
I think it's important to have someone you respect and like in your corner as if shit gets rought they're going to be your morale support.
Definitely not Evangelista.
I'd go with Nazim probably. Something about that dude that I would find comforting in the midst of a war. He's like an old sage.
Yeah, he has that aura to him. He's the type of dude I'd just love to talk boxing with. Shit, probably life too.
I would go out of my way not to have Floyd Sr in my corner
'ugg ayy ugg uhhh shoulder roll uhgg uhh ay umm cocaine!'
Cocaine is a hell of a drug
probebly Roach, because hes the only one who speaks ****ing English, even if it is mumbly.

Nazim seems like the flavour of the month all of a sudden, but it wouldnt be bad to have him in the corner. he speaks very clearly, gives solid, basic advice, and uses such colorful sayings that my mind would be tripping in imagination land which would calm me down in the middle of the fight.
I would actually pick Ronnie Shields over anyone else.
I imagine it means much more who you trained with leading up to the fight and how you trained, and means very little who actually ends up in your corner on the night of the fight though. Trainers can give good advice, but most the time fighters just go out there and do what theyre programmed to do anyway.
I don't visit any other boxing forums, so I'll take your word for it.
Not that this one is that great either in terms of common sense and general knowledge. It wasn't too long ago that I saw someone say James Kirkland is already better than Mike Tyson because he's faced stiffer opposition......
So, point taken.
All I'm saying is that some of us are smart enough to realize that it really doesn't make much of a difference. I'd just like to hear Naazim's funny and insightful quotes inbetween rounds where I was getting my face smashed in.

No offense but I wouldnt count on that LOL I mean, not the guys in this thread but have you read some of the postings of random posters on message boards? There are those who honestly think all a certain trainer has to do is show up in a corner on fight night and its a guaranteed victory for his guy

You all need to understand something...it doesnt matter what Floyd or any of them know..it matters what they can get YOU to do, what YOU know, how YOU react to their words... the fact is that there are fighters out there that Floyd , Freddy, Dundee, etc etc just wouldnt be able to reach and it wouldnt what they said in the corner... people seem to subconsciously feel like if Floyd or Freddy or Nacho are in the other corner that it is doom for your guy but that is far from the case...if the other trainer has the right guy with him and the chemistry is right then OK...but you will pay attention and see that even the greatest trainers have fighters under them that they cannot deal with as well as someone else who may even be very unknown. There is a lot more to it than, "Hey that guy is a great trainer...I want him!" You know?
I trust Iceman on this one.
I think everybody here understands that.

good poll but...
For the sake of this poll i voted for floyd sr but in my opinion the trainer that id most want in my corner during a fight is Nazim Richardson, that guy has got to be the best ive ever seen at turning an oponents strongest atributes against them
You have Evangelista on the list and not Naazim Richardson?
For real. I wouldn't hire Evangelista to train my dog.
No offense to him, but from what I've heard, even his nephew can't stand him.

I think everybody here understands that. This is just a thread about which professional trainer you would want in your corner if you were a fighter, if you could have any of them. We know it doesn't mean guaranteed victory, shit, we'd probably all lose.
But it's fun to talk about.
Kinda like which NBA star you'd like to play a little one-on-one with. Doesn't mean we'll win.
