Vitali is definitely not the same fighter he was pre retirement. Although he won in a tough fight tonight and did fairly well for being 37 years old, I believe if this was the Vitali pre retirement this fight would have been over much sooner.
Vitali seemed slower, and winded a lot more than in the past.
I advice Vitali to stay in the game for no longer than a year in which he could get a good 2 or 3 fights and then retire before a fresh young dog retires him.

Vit did better against Gomez than he did against Bird long time ago. Gomez is fast, technical lefty with a KO power. I was impressed how well Vit did against such a crafty lefty. I did not see "slowing" down, but maybe it is just me.

Yeah I agree i think that a fast young guy could give Vitali some real trouble now.
he's 37? wow......i thought he was only 34 or so.
yeah vitali is no longer at his best.
his prime was around the lewis fight when he made kirk johnson shit his pants and beat corrie sanders.
i think he should beat up valuev and retire.
I agree with all of this.

Yeah, he didnt look very sharp in there. I want to see more then one bad fight to say he has slipped though. Everyone can have an off night. Maybe he couldnt get amped for fighting a Gomez like he could a Haye at this point in his life.
Vitali is a 37 year old injury ridden fighter carrying a lot of ring rust. Anyone who expected him to be his old self was reaching a bit.
The fact that he made this comeback after all the time and injuries but was still successful is a huge accomplishment in itself, really. How many of us were convinced he was gonna pull out of the Peter fight?
Sure, Vitali doesnt have much left, probably two good fights at the most, but at least he came back and added a bit of shine to his legacy.
No Never thought to much of peter...And as bad as he looked in that fight with klit made me wonder if something as wrong....He sucked ...Arreola is a different type...Truthfully I think Peter and Areolla should fight before a match with Klit...But if you're ready you're ready.
Yep, Peter and Areolla would be a good fight to see before Areolla fought either one of the Klitschkos.
Arreola may be the hype job to put any klit on his ass. Believe that.
Dude got knocked on his ass down by travis walker, Vitali would KO Arreola with a pawing jab probably.

I bet if you tell the truth you thought Sam Peter was the hype job to put any Klit on his ass.
What about the rocky-style training he did for this fight? I always thought the rocky training was kind of dumb in some ways because it improves power makes you strong but wouldn't it slow you down a bit too? How does pulling sleds with ppl on them and walking through the snow improve footwork or make your hands faster? Wouldn't it just make you overall stronger? Strength is good and all but is their a point to getting too strong and not fast enough?
I've been thinking the same. But although he is slowing down with age, he still is (along with his brother) the best heavyweight in the world. I think he will retire after two or three more fights.
He has slowed a little bit but as far as being winded if you watch pre retirement fights, notably the Corrie Sanders and Danny Williams fights he always looks like hes winded around the fourth or fifth round, but he keeps throwing, I think its just the way he breaths I dont know but its weird shit, same with his brother.

Haye would retire Vitali! Thats why he ducked him and fought Gomez instead.
Pussy!
Please this is a boxing forum, if you want to be a comedian im sure there are other places that will accommodate for your humor.
I think if they ever were to fight (which they never will), Wlad would beat him. Wlad's technical skills would contain Vitali and not let him land his awkward shots and contain him at bay where Vitali wouldn't chin check him.
But god I wish Wlad had the finishing hunger like Vitali did. He doesn't have the chin for it, but he could still step it up like he did.
