I thought this topic is about ring intelligence?
Actually, Ali had a veru high IQ and was very smart. I have read quite a few books and people always say that about Ali.
I think DLH is the smartest guy out there when it comes to former or current boxers. He has done an incredible job in managing his carreer and will be one of the most successful boxers after his career is over.
Most fighters are broke a few years after they have retired, DLH will make much more money after he has retired and could have a bigger impact on the sport as a promotor than as a boxer and that's saying a lot.
Oscar is a dumb ass when it comes to ring IQ (Trinidad, Mosley I, Mayweather, Pacquiao). And Ali didn't excel in academics, but when he was in the ring he was one of the smartest fighters of all time (ie rope a dope).
who gives a shit about book smarts..this is boxing
Threadstarter does. Or else he wouldnt have started this topic.
Why do you post in the thread if don't give a shit??
:?!::?!::ugh::ugh:
Foreman.
Quit the sport with his health, unlike his closest peers, made $300 Million after it. He’s smart.
Piper’s claim to fame was having the highest IQ of any sports figure past or present.

I'm surprised that you say Ali's IQ is high. He failed the army's IQ test (by a little) which ensured that he wasn't drafted. Later the need for more cannonfodder meant that the result needed was lowered and Ali was drafted. The rest is history.
Of course Ali could have failed on purpose, but this failure goes nicely in hand with a lot of footage I've seen of Ali not being able to spell when asked for dedicated autographs.
One of Ali's famous quotes around draft time was: I always said I was the greatest. Not the smartest.
There's a lot of different types of intelligence. Ali wasn't academically smart but he was quick-witted in a general conversational sense. You could also have someone who's well-read but not very intelligent in an IQ sense. You have people with high IQs who have little common sense. You have people who appear to be fools but are much more clever than people think. It's a very misunderstood subject I think.

Bobby Czyz has a very high IQ apparently.
Yep. Him and Nicky Piper are/were both members of MENSA. Along with the Klit's they are the outstanding examples.
Ali knew how to read and write, he just never took school seriously, and chose to focus on his athletic abilities more. Who was the last person you have seen to be able to go through school without knowing how to read or write?
Tunney's right. Ali was very bad in reading and writing. His oratory skills was second to none though.
Muhammed Ali did fail a couple of grades though, and he never made it through high school.
I've read that Ali was unable to read and write.
I know a guy who got a basketball scholarship to university, but he couldn't read or write when he arrived there. It's not as uncommon as you think. Sometimes teachers just pass the kids through the grades.
He struggled in school, but he knew how to read and write.
Ali failed grades in school, and never did learn to read and write.
