Well that's what most sites are reporting. And accoring to Gene Tunney and other posters the IBF is very strict about champions fighting mandatories. So if he beats Tarver (and he will) he will be fighting Tavoris Cloud next because he's the IBF mandatory.
Looks like there won't be a Dawson vs Hopkins. Does Cloud have a chance against Dawson? I know Cloud is a big puncher but he's slow compared to Dawson.
All this weight business is starting to make me think...
If Hopkins (a natural middleweight in his day) can blow up to CW, why wouldn't Dawson (a taller and naturally heavier dude) be able to do the same? He should really dabble. First 168, back to 175, then blow up to 185 or something.

I heard Cloud state in an interview that he wanted Woods before he fought Dawson, so i guess a Woods/Cloud fight would the eliminator to Dawson. That article that Cloud was in was interesting. He was talking about how he and Dawson had fought in sparring when he was preparing for a national amateur fight around 2000, he said he gave Dawson a black eye. I don't know if its true or not and of course both of them were young and undeveloped at the time. He was also talking about how Dawson's people were avoiding him because they know how bad his chin is.
As for my take on Dawson vs Cloud, i think Dawson boxes circles around him. While his power makes him a live underdog in this fight( even though its hasn't been tested on a world class level) hes just 5'9( while Dawson is 6'3) and an average boxer, so i see Dawson being able to keep him spinning and using his superior hand speed to beat him on points, or possibly late stoppage.
Dawson should ditch the belt after he smokes Tarver, come down to 168 and have a crack at some of the guys down there - Kessler, Froch, Taylor, Bika, etc. - then go back up again to 175 when there's less bums.
