i am a guerrero fan... actually, i really would want to see him mix it up with linares and antillon sometime... but lets put it up this way,
barrios is less skilled but his courage always get the better of him... remember he was still pressing juarez despite that nasty cut on his kisser?
vitali klitschko suffered a severe cut against lewis but kept on pounding away anyway and was actually disappointed that the fight was stopped...
arce, jmm. pacquiao the same thing... you see. as a fan. i want my favorite fighters to show courage through adversity... not just showcase talents... thats why that move by guerrero reminded me of derrick gainer who also quit against jmm... it really sucks...
I have been thinking about this since I watched teh fight and really have no issue with him stopping. He could have went on for a round or two and stopped before the 5th round started and got the same result. The ref could have started deducting points from Yordan at any point for holding he was pulling an "Akinwande", so if he could have easily won a decision if he got to the end of round 5 but what whould a win like that even mean.
It was a very akward and ugly fight though, there was going to be no real glory gained in the ring. Did anyone really want to watch 8 more rounds if it progressed the way it looked to be going, hell we should thank Guerrero for saving us from that terrible fight.
give it a ****ing rest
you sound like a 10 year old who keeps nagging for an answer to a stupid ass question.
It's only a stupid ass question, when there no answers~!
Why, we haven't had any Mexican's trying to answer this question, WTF happen?

I was upset with HIS decision, it was a bad cut but he's Mexican and Mexicans fight untill the death..
WTF, happen?
:poke:

i was there live and this is what i thought also..ghost has way more 2 lose in the fight the yordan does ...and wit a bright future a head why risk getting cut evn worse then it already was??all yordan would do is hold and pull the head wit him..whats that bout...as far as the push over thing goes i dont kno how u can tell that by watching 1 and 1/2 rounds tho....hes gunna get that cut fixed 2day..was with him yesturday..we family..but hel be back and then i am sure most people that doubt him now will be back on the zipper when he wins..and is on top again..tru fans will stay wit him no matter what..
thats true but its not like guerrero fought on, lost and his fans abandoned him. we're talking about the specific situation of him deciding to not go on, especially because it seems he just took the easy way out because he had his hands full with yordan.
I was okay with it. Disappointed, but okay with it. The cut was a legitimate disadvantage and I think Guerrero knew he'd be fighting a tricky guy with a problem that was only going to get worse. He was practical and cautious about it because in reality he needs to be. The guy has a lot to live and work for.

He should have kept fighting and I think if he doesn't get cut, he wins the fight. It would have gone maybe 1-2 rounds before they stopped it anyway, it was a terrible cut.
He should have gone on though.....

Guerrero should have kept fighting. The way Yourdan was fighting (or rather not fighting) would have led to him being DQ'ed for repeated holding by the 5th round.
AS Kellerman noted in the commentary, Kirkland would not have quit under the same circumstances.
Shat, Kirkland swallows razor blades!
Quick question: Does anybody think Kirkland is banging Wolfe or vice versa?
:hitit:

That shit sucked. He coulda fought 1 more rd at least to see how he could do, but he str8 punked out. Maybe he figured he wouldn't get dissed just cuz he was close to home, but I was disappointed as ****. Especially cuz his opponent was no pushover and came to win, which meant it woulda been a good fight.
Very disappointing and could possibly show something about his character.
Could you imagine if paul williams quit after round 1 against Phillips?

that wasn't directly above the eye but I think Guerrero wasn't ready for what Daud brought and chose to play it safe.
You could have easily stopped that cut from bleeding in between rounds with some vasaline.
I don't know why he quit, most boxers would have chosen to keep fighting.
I've always been a fan of the Ghost. But he disappointed me. I feel he quit right there. No different than what Rahman did recently vs Toney.
Yordan was giving him a run for his money in the first 2 rounds. I didnt see Guerrero land anything significant, but I did see Yordan time Guerrero coming in twice, in both rounds, with effective right hands.
I don't believe Guerrero's BS about him not being able to see.. you could tell the ref and even the doctor both thought the guy was full of shit.
Whether Guerrero wins or loses that fight, he would've had a tough night ahead of him. Yordan was no pushover. Guerrero knew this and didn't want to fight another 10 rounds with the cut. I expected more out of him honestly. He should've fought on.
yeah, but who knows if hbo will give him another chance... this was his shot at the big time
I see your point. HBO has been talking the talking and walking the walk lately. I think HBO deserves props for sticking to their word.
But Guerrero is backed by Golden Boy, so he probably will get another chance.
Man, thank goodness I've never been in prison (only on visiting day), but I've seen enough movies and heard enough stories to know you can't show "weakness." And boxing is the same way. I can understand why people are jumping all over The Ghost for this.
To echo other people's sentiments, I think "disappointed" is the right word for how I feel about his performance. The good thing is that he can prove himself in future fights. I wanted to be a fan after seeing a couple of his past fights. I hope he does his best to erase this memory. I also hope that the ordeal that his family is going through doesn't affect him in the ring.

To be fair Williams cut was not directly above his eye were blood would easily flow down right into eye.
I was disappointed to see him have the fight stopped. However, I think it was a smart career move because his opponent was very game and that cut happened in the second round. If the fight was stopped in the 4th due to the cut or if it continued through 10 or 12 (whatever it was) he very well may have taken his first 'L'. Though in having the fight stopped he may have lost a little respect from fans.
EDIT: Correction, I didn't realize he already had a loss earlier in his career.
