It's been a pretty hot topic of late, so what do you think.
1- Should he add a lot of weight, say around 190-200 range. This would give him te benefit of extra strength on the inside against bigger guys, but would hinder his speed advantage. Also, the extra weight may hinder his stamina IMO.
or;
2- Come in around 180-190, he wouldn't have the same strength as he would if he came in heavier, but would maintain his speed advantage over the bigger guys.
I think he should come in around 185-190, so he isn't tiny against Adamek (I don't see him fighting any others) and can still do alright on the inside (Although preferably staying away from there), but wouldn't be risking his stamina and speed too much.
What do you think?
hopkins will come in light and try to use movement to outbox adamek... adamek should not make any attempt to be faster... thats stupid... he just needs to focus on cutting off the ring and letting his hands go
Adamek can't beat Hopkins........so the number of pounds he carry won't matter because the skill level is too far apart........Leonard vs Lalonde comes to mind when I think of Hopkins vs Adamek.
Haye isnt a crusierweight, besides Haye has unfinished business with Carl Thompson.
No, Adamek isn't a cruiserweight. Haye is just like any other CW than comes in at 215-220 on fight night. Thompson is retired and what? 50 years old? GTFOOH.
I think Hopkins is too good for Adamek. If he comes in at his natural weight which is probably 190 anyway.
Hopkins should target Valuev, that guy is shit for a world champ.
ide stay light if i was b-hop
yes he's 43 pushing 44 so at some point stamina will be his biggest issue and he needs to keep it high as long as he can
comming in too heavy could be his last chapter
If anyone knows what they're doing with their body and sync that with a great gameplan - it's Hopkins.
I wouldn't really question his decision (if the fight were to materialize) to come in around 180-185.
I think his plan of coming in between 180 and 185 is the right one, keep his speed, coming in heavier doesn't neccessarily mean he'll have increased power so the only thing that coming in heavier can definitely help him with is his physical strength but at the same time, coming in heavier would take away his speed and he needs the speed to give Adamek angles and to offset Adamek's right hand so definitely coming in lighter is the way to go IMO.
Bhop don't need to be bankin on power at a higher weight in his damn 40s. If the Adamek fight comes off, he better negotiate sumthin reasonable for the weight.

If anything his only chance is staying light. However, I think this is a bad fight for him. While they may be stylistically different in many ways, Adomek is like Pavlik on steroids. He should stay away from this fight.
Stay light. One of his advantages over Adamek would be his movement.
I agree, I think his goal of around 185 sounds good to maximize power and speed. I have to wonder if he would actually gain any power if he came in at 200 since power punching comes from speed + strength and we know he would lose some speed.
Simply adding excess weight will not greatly increase his strength. The benefit of the extra weight would be severely "outweighed" (sorry about the pun) by the decrease in speed and movement.
Hopkins has the right idea.
