Joshua Clottey is a huge Welterweight. Remember when he fought the late, Chico Corrales; he came into the fight weighting 170lbs! Cotto has never fought anyone that big. The only fighter close to that size that Cotto has faced was former Welterweight King, Antonio Margarito, and we all know what happened in that fight.
Clottey's defense is practically impenetrable, his chin is as good as Tony's and he has one of the best jabs in the business. I see a very difficult night for Cotto when he steps in the ring against Joshua. Bad matchup for Miguel only one fight removed from the putasos he received in the Antonio Margarito fight.

Plasterito had to wear plaster to beat Cotto and he also took a hellacious beating himself. Stop being such a hater Plasterito is gone and forgotten. Cotto is a great fighter and he will have no problems against an opponent who doesn't load his gloves.
"He might not get past Clottey"........thats the whole point of good fights. Its boring when you know 100% who is going to win i.e. If PBF came out of retirement to fight Paulie Malignagi that would not be a good fight. But if PBF came out to fight Pac, Cotto, JMM those are good fights because the outcome is a huge foregone conclusion.

Even if its a bad match up these are the kind of fights us boxing fans need.now it aint going to be an easy fight for Cotto but it aint going to be his hardest because while Clottey has good defense and good jab, Cotto also has good jab, good defense and he is a much more technical boxer than Clottey.Cotto wins 9rd ko damage done by his signature punch(left hook to the body)
Nah Cotto isnt going to have that much trouble with Clottey. It might go the distance, but Cotto is gonna control the fight and probably wont ever be in trouble.
Trust me, Cotto is a full cut above the likes of Clottey.
Cotto should take this, but its gonna be a huge test for him. Size is a big factor in this fight, and i wont be surprised if Clottey weighs in fight night the size of a SMW, while cotto will be around 10-15 pounds lighter then him. thats around about 2 weight classes!
this is a dangerous fight that cotto could lose ... but i think he gets the W . . . i like em both if the fight gets off i wont know who to root 4 . . .
Clottey is a difensive fighter his ofense is created off his difense he is not that really agrasive. He is slow puncher and his difensive flaws make it easy to get to the body which is Cotto strong point. The fighters that give Cotto problems are the real big pressure fighters. If Clottey where to put pressure on Cotto It wouldnt make no difrence because I dont think he his that big. I have Cotto winning by KO in the late rounds
It will be a tough fight...Bottom line Cotto fan or not you have to respect the man for taking on all fighters, he has fought a who's who at welter and you must respect that win or lose.
Clottey has sick defense, a good chin, and is a big WW who can stand up to Cotto's body attack better than other guys. Not an easy task for Cotto at all.
Cotto is going to have to prepare for 12 rounds of hard BOXING against Clottey. The probability of him ending the fight early is slim to none. It's going to be a good fight for sure. One of the best this year.

Clottey's body has never really been tested. Miguel will take on that task. Clottey also has mental issues when the fight isn't going his way.
Yes it has. Gutierrez hit him with some savage bodyshots in their fight and his bodywork really is what kept him competitive in that fight. That fight is also part of the reason I think Cotto will beat Clottey. Cotto will be smart enough to bang the body when Clottey turtles up and takes time off.
You're right about the mental issues. He has shown tendencies or fouling and becoming sloppy when things are falling out of his favor.

Exactly what I was thinking.
