I think the deck is stacked against him due to his ultra-aggressive style. Guys like Dempsey, Marciano, Tyson were all past it by their late-20s and you wonder how much of himself Diaz is going to want to keep giving. This is a guy in Diaz that has other options in life, this sport is brutal.
Diaz has shown that he can't cope with adversity, notably the cuts, or make adjustments like the best fighters in the world can. Marquez won because he was able to make adjustments early and pull rabbits out of his hat where Diaz kept fighting the same fight all night. Once he got tired and cut, he couldn't maintain his same style of fighting.
In his two defeats, to Campbell and Marquez, he has shown that win or lose, he's going to live and die with the style that he fights. He's got a lot of miles on him for a young fighter, a lot of tough fights, even the wins.
I personally don't know if he'll ever be able to compete at the highest level of the sport, though he can stay in Houston and make a lot of money taking fights on a level just below where he has been fighting.
he needs to learn how to handle cuts, first and foremost!!
He did better againts Marquez with this cut. Marquez was hurting him from round 1 as he later reaffirmed in the post fight interview that he couldnt let marquez know how hurt he was... I knew Diaz was going down.. Marquez is the hardest puncher Diaz has ever fought and this fight confirms that.'
He just faced a fighter who was in a different atmosphere... Marquez was really good experience for a YOUNG fighter the caliber and potential of Diaz.. Its up to Diaz to use that experience to up his game to another level. Marquez is a phenomenal fighter.
I knew JMM would win this...but I was so impressed with Diaz.I thought JMM would win easily and Diaz had a classic war with him..props to Diaz and his fans
Diaz can definitley come back after this - he lost against a potential ATG in JMM and could even have been level going in to the 9th. I think he should take a tune-up fight next to gain his confidence back, hopefully against the winner of Khan/Barrera - just so if Khan wins against Barrera, we can see him get KTFO in 1 round again.
I believe he can, with ease. He's still young and has a lot of heart. I think these kind of fights will make him better in the long run and I respect him for picking tough fights instead of effortlessly running through weak opposition, which a lot of fighters do these days.
If he keeps taking the punishment he is, I don't think there will be a long run for him.

To tell you the truth I didnt see the fight but many sites like espn and others had Diaz pretty much dominating the fight. They sed Marquez was tiring and Diaz kept coming.
Diaz isnt done, and his conditioning isnt bad, how can it be when you have that workrate and still not tire? Marquez just poured on the magic, he was getting beating a bit by Casamayor until the ko.
Diaz is the number 2 or 3 man at lightweight in my opinion
idk what diaz diet is like but if he cut dairy ..starch and red meats he could drop the fat and gain muscle and get more steam on those shots..fat weight is wasted weight
JMM will either move up or retire within anotha yr. Diaz can still rule 135, he just fought a great ring general. He was stopped, but not shamed or physically ruined imo. Hell I think he's got a future at 140 himself.
He is still very young at 25 years old and has 5 good, prime years left in the sport so yes he can definitely bounce back. But I do agree in terms of him having already reached his potential and not being able to win fights at the elite, upper echelons of the sport.
Think about it though, should he really hang his brain out there to dry like that when he can be doing just about anything else aside from boxing?
He is 25 but I don't think he needs 5 more years of this.
no, i bet that eye will get cut in every fight from now on.....they were also saying earlier that he might drop boxing for school......he also needs to realize that he cant take body punches with his current conditioning....if he learns to adjust maybe with a new trainer and gets better conditioning its possible...
I just don't think he can fight any other way. Swarming your opponents with activity without hurting them or adjusting to your opponent's adjustments leaves him out to dry as fights progress.
Once a fighter who fights as aggressively as he does gets cracked, something is usually lost in them. Sometimes it's their heart, they become more timid and lack confidence in their durability, but very rarely they come back the same fighter.
It's not the same as a boxer who relies on movement and defense, because they can avoid the punches. A fighter like Diaz simply cannot avoid the punches.
He'll get to where he was, but he'll never make that leap into the elite group.
He'll be a very good entertaining fighter, and that's good enough for me. Dude fought a great fight and showed a ton of heart. I'll always tune in to a Diaz fight.
Same here. You got to love his aggressive, come forward style. I think he will always be a notch below the real elites. Man, if he had some real punching power, he would be a true monster. Huge props to Diaz tonight. He was just in against a truly special fighter tonight.

he should keep stacking his paper fighting..If I was in his position I would forget about school...Make mils fighting then retire with mils...travel..enjoy your life..why waste it being a parasite lawyer
