what workout should i do going for power and finesse and i will work out as many days of the week if necessary what should i do i have the heavy bag and the speed bag, jump rope, gloves and i can spar what should i do
just to let you know incase you dont already, weight lifting does not improve power nor does it give you explosive energy, hammer & tyre exercises and the like to.
low reps and high weight will. Most modern boxers include anaerobic and aerobic training.
The thing not to do is consume massive amounts of food/calories to gain weight and make yourself big. Eat a controlled amount of food so you can monitor your weight and strength/muscle.
Hatton
Pacquiao
Holyfield
Roy Jones
4 fighters that I know use/used resistance training, Pacquiao doesn't use traditional weights but he does do strength routines involving high weight.
All those guys are/were fast and hit hard. Muscle also tends to improve your punch resistance as it offers armor and better recoop.
It's a load of trash when people say you will become slow when you put on muscle. If you body build, you will become slow is more like it. Put on the right type of muscle and you can be fast as hell.
Roy Jones was jacked at heavyweight, he was incredibly fast.
yeah power and finesse
squats, deadlifts, clean & presses, pull ups, dips, ab exercises. bench pressing aint gonna help u for shit. throw on lots of muscle and u will most likely be as slow as shit. i'd recommend light weight with high (15-20) repetitions. work the bag, run, jump rope, spar when you can. not against anyone good or u will get hurt. good luck.
(btw this belongs in training and nutrition)
lol power is something u should focus on later. if your just starting to train, focus on ur stamina. If you've never done a smoker before, you will be a bit nervous and might throw ur wad out early. Stamina and technique is what i feel you should focus on, power will come as those things mature.
you are right but i do need a good workout still
do you want to max 225, or rep it?
i plan on just maxing it at first and then rep it but the repping can come all in good time

Punchers can be made just like any other athlete can. Nobody is born a puncher wthout the proper training. Weight training can help achieve this. If you do fast explosive reps, you're not going to take any good attributes away but you may increase speed and strength. I repeat, nobody is born a puncher without properly being trained
i appreciate all the sidebar conversations but is there a workout plan i can follow for boxing i know the fundamentals so if there is something i don't know then i'm sure i can look it up on the internet (this is just until i get a car and can go to a real boxing gym)
Punching power can be obtained. But there's a limit as to how much power can be obtained through training. That's why the guy's right when he says punchers are born and not made. See, Tommy Hearns, Naseem Hamed etc
exactly my point
this is not true... by far..... do you honestly believe that punching power cant be obtained?
proper technique can IMPROVE punching power, but like I said, punchers are born not made.
There are different types of strengths - maximal, explosive, speed, and strength endurance. You need a combination of all to maximize performance in boxing. Focusing too much on maximal strength such as benching will actually result in a in a loss of speed.
see i have all the equipment at my house but i don't have a car yet when i do and i get a car i will be going to a boxing gym so yeah right now i am going for boxing
being strong gives you power... i dont know what these guys are talking about as long as you punch correctly you will have harder punching power, you should improve other things instead of just your bench though.
When you say boxing workouts do you mean sparring, bag drills, pads and jump roping or are you looking for weight lifting workouts for boxing?
yes i mean you know bag drills and stuff like that but weight lifting is going to have to go in there somewhere so i don't lose all muscle
I've got a few questions . A) what is your height? B) what is your age? C) how much do you weight?
A 5' 8" B 16 C 170( i am planning on losing some fat i am 12 percent BF
i don't knwo i guess i wont assume from now on out

well see i wasn't going to bench press for power i just have a bet with my neighbor on racing to 225 and i cant be a full time weightlifter and boxer so i was going to do that first but is there any actual routine that i can use that is used by people
