Can you name some fights where the boxer beats the brawler?
Prefferably fights where the winner throws less punches than the loser but lands more.
It would be even more awesome if it were long-mid range too.
Thanks in advance!
Whitaker vs Santo Cardona
Cardona threw like 1000 punches in that fight (he was known to be very active in a fight), Whitaker threw much less but his connect percentage made it a lopsided victiory for him
dirrell abraham (i'll call abraham a brawler only because of the shape/crudeness of the offensive work he does, and his lack of boxing.)
cotto margarito 2
arguello mancini
acosta antillon
chris martin chris avalos
I just watched Mayweather-Hatton tonight and here are the stats taken straight from me pausing the video:
PBF: landed 129 out of 329, 39%
Hatton: landed 63 out of 372, 17%
wasnt a huge difference in total thrown punches but it still fits what you are asking.
I know Winky-Soliman had Winky outlanding him and probably throwing half the punches Soliman did. Soliman isnt really a brawler per say but has a weird style and insane output. Some people were trying to say Soliman won the fight but they were mislead by his crazy activity, he wasnt landing shit.
I found the numbers, here you go:
"Soliman (31-8) certainly did his best to find a way to beat Wright, throwing by CompuBox count a remarkable 1,260 punches. Of course they were all arm punches which collective had the stinging effect of a wet dish towel. Wright, by contrast, threw half as many punches (652) yet landed nearly half again as many (300 to 174) because his pinpoint accuracy and often harsh body attack allowed him to land a remarkable 46 per cent of the punches he threw. In addition, the defense which has made Wright nearly unbeatable was so smothering that Solimon landed only 14 per cent of his punches overall and just 10 of 333 jabs, a THREE PER CENT connect rate. So while Wright did not head home with a spectacular victory he was dominating on defense and unaffected by anything Soliman used but his head. "
Felix Trinidad against Yori Boy Campas and Ricardo Mayorga.
No, Trinidad isn't the first thought when the term "boxer" is brought up, but he fought more like a boxer earlier in his career, and went back to it in later fights such as the fights with Whitaker and Mayorga.
Floyd Mayweather-Jesus Chavez
Beautiful display of counter-punching against a very active fighter. Mayweather had a field day with the uppercut.
Good examples,
and I personally think of Trinidad as a boxer. He's just a boxer with alot of power. His punches are still precise and he isn't wild.
Anyway, I noticed it's quite hard to find the kind of fights I asked for.
So let me rephrase:
Name some matches where the boxer who threw way less punches won. So obviously he needs to be a counterpuncher. I would love it if you can name a fight like that where the loser still throws alot of combinations. He doesn't have to be a brawler or anything, just very active.
thanks in advance!
Ali Frazier?
Frazier is not a brawler, hes a textbook example of an inside fighter. he was alot more controled than a brawler and rarely threw wild punches.

Can you name some fights where the boxer beats the brawler?
I'm not talking about fights like Mayweather vs Corrales, because in that fight Corrales barely threw any punches.
I'm talking about fights where the brawler fights wild and the boxer waits for openings and counters.
So in short; I'm looking for a total schooling, but where the loser is still extremely active.
In addition to that I also want the boxer to keep distance and fight long-mid range. So I guess that leaves out a lot of Toney's fights.
Do you know any fights like that? Thanks in advance!
Usually over the course of a malicious beating, the other guy stops throwing back (like in Floyd-Diego, did Floyd not turn him into what we saw in the ring that night atleast to some degree). So this would be very rare I would think.
