I think this is a very intriguing matchup. I see a lot of people are writing Cintron off but I really feel that if Martinez fights like he did against Bunema (all the showboating etc.) he will get destroyed by Kermit. What do you guys think about this fight?
Cintron has the goods to win this fight but he has the mental capacity of a worm. Unless he lands that hellacious KO punch, he will find a way to lose. I will never forget the Feliciano fight where he chooses to fight the only fight that he could possibly lose and then flops onto the canvas screaming in pain like a little girl. I honestly think Corey Williams took the same acting classes before his fight with Tommy Morrison. Martinez is the safe bet here.

Regardless of which side of the debate you're on, Margarito's recent scandal gives Cintron a lifeline to his old confidence. He's gonna' be tryin' with all his might to grab it.
Cintron KO 7
Would you say the recent findings with Margarito could have boosted Cintron's confidence as a fighter?
I think so. After all, Margarito is the only man to beat him.
I'm taking Cintron for the win. By surprising KO.
The guy almost lost to Jesse Feliciano...
Over what? Really, this has all the makings of being stopped by the ref, cornerman, or even Martinez himself. Kermit doesnt like to use his legs and Sergio will turn him dizzy all night long, Martinez footwork is too savvy for Cintron, Cintron's only hope is a knockout.
9 rounds I think it is. Cintron still has length, a good right hand. Remember Bunema wasn't even throwing. I think it'll be a good fight, just dont see either guy stopping the other unless Cintron really lands something good.
Even granting your point that his "only hope is a knockout" (which assessment I think is wrong to begin with), then Kerm is the guy I would want in the ring to make it happen. Who exactly has Martinez beat to warrant a comparison to BOTH Sugar Ray Leonard and Robinson? That's just plain foolishness.
I just think Martinez's footwork is better than Cintron's. Martinez's lateral movement, his jab will keep Cintron off balance. The speed gap is ridiculous. Unless Martinez stays right in front of him and allows Cintron to tee off, I don't see how he gets through with the big punch.
Both of these guys have to answer some questions. Just because Martinez put on a show against a journeyman doesnt mean anything to me. Either way I'm putting money on the over. Cintron isn't the toughest fighter in the world, but his chin is solid, and I think Martinez will be on the move most of the night.
I've always like Kermit, but he isn't what he use to be. Martinez is a pretty slick fighter. It should be a good one. I'm looking forward to seeing the whole card live..
I'm still disappointed that Mayorga pulled out :(
Isn't what he used to be??? He didn't really face anybody but Margarito.
citnron should do well, martinez doesnt fight inside......cintrons biggest problem is that he cant fight inside....
yup Cintron does very well against guys who give him distance to get his punches off. He will land and depending on Martinez' chin he will likely TKO him or batter him badly. Cintron doesnt do well against pressure and on the inside its why I wanted to see him against Cotto. Likely Cotto would have destroyed him on the inside with short punches. Although Martinez cleaned up against Bunema, a guy who was way overated, I think Cintron is at least a couple steps up in talent and much harder puncher. Cintron will also likely benefit from 154. I swear he looked like skeletor at welter.

Umm no Martinez is a very solid fighter! A good boxer, with great balance, nice hand speed and a southpaw. This should be a good fight! No walk in the park for either fighter!
