i think this is a horrible idea!! Hear me out
If i were Hayes promoter i would set him up with lesser opponent maybe some top 10 or famous names first to get his name some attention.
i would set him up with the likes of Rahman, Toney or Tony Thompson and then set him up with a tuneup fight so people start to know the guy.
His style is excting to watch so hes going to get some attention.
The when hes had a couple of HBO or Showtime fights then bring out the PPV extravaganza Vitali or Wladimir vs. Haye.
But now think about this.
A) He faces Wladimir and lets say he gets KO. Then hes never heard from again (by the way this is for the American public im refering to).
or
B) He beats Wlad and the only ones who saw the fight were the already Boxing established fans. Plus the fight wont even be on PPV cause Haye is not even known over here to the casual fan
I as the a promoter would set Haye up vs. James Toney here in the USA on HBO on April then set up with Tony Thompson or Lamont Brewster in August in another HBO fight.
Then Finally the PPV showdown vs. Wlad
If Wlad fights anyone else the fans will clamor for him to fight Haye. It's what people want. That can't be bad for "boxing." If Haye wins it'll be a big deal. If he loses then Wlad gains a little more credibility and Haye gets quickly forgotten.
I agree wit u man. If Haye loses where we at? Klits might getta unification with Chagaev after he beats Valuev. Chagaev lose by wide decision cuz dude can't land anythin. Arreola and Dimitrenko? One has suspect chin and other got weight issues. Povetkin is KO waitin to happen and boom that's all she wrote people. Haye jus gotta get it done and make shit interestin ya kno?
if haye wins then we`ve finally got an interesting hw division again!!
its a shame there`s no americans tho! (arreola still has alot to prove!,as does haye,i guess!)
i wouldnt write off haye too soon! wlads chin aint exactly solid + haye can BANG!!
(saying that, even lennox got caught a couple of times and he was the last true hw champ!!)
thats the beuty of the hw div tho!! 1 shot can close the show!!
Povetkin will never be a mean stream guy. Nor will Dimitrenko. Value is a waste of oxygen, can you really see people going crazy over Value.
Arreola would sell some PPV because hes Mexican (mexican/american).
But Haye has the syle, the look and the mouth to be a PPV attraction.
Heavyweights division does suck to everyone, except the die hard boxing fans.

They know Haye's chin makes him beatable by any heavyweight who hits him just right (although the same can be said about anyone, but you get the idea) and they dont want to risk losing a chance at being the top dog in a fight with Wlad that would make him a star and make him very wealthy. He is smart to take the fight. He could lose alot of those "Name maker" fights.
So being a diehard counts for nothing, and it's frowned upon these days? I actually want all those fights to happen (even the Valuev one, just to see any of those guys embarass him), because I'm a fan of boxing in the end. The spectacle and PPV extravaganzas/buyrates are fun to observe as trivia, but it's the fights that happen in the ring I want to see - and all of the above just happen to be those fights.
They're all good for boxing.
No its not that, its that i really wish boxing can be main stream again. I want to get those non boxing fan attention and let them see what we see.
I dont want to be selfish and be "whatever, i dont care if nobody watches as long as i see it."
Just look how the UFC has come out of nowhere and has become main stream these past few years

I disagree. There's still more challengers for Wlad to tee off against, all with the usual puncher's chance risks involved - Povetkin and Dimitrenko for starters, and also whoever wins between Chags and Valuev. Throw Arreola in there, too. It's not a stale pool by any means. If Haye doesn't succeed, then there's plenty of others to keep trying (and potential rematches if they somehow manage to lose a close UD or SD to Wlad).
I'm getting a bit sick of all this "heavyweight division sucks so badly right now" crap, to be honest. There are some very good, young up-and-comers out there all the time waiting in the wings, but there's also only so many times the champ can fight them in a year (in Wlad's case, kudos to him for fitting 3 in last year). It's Haye's turn now, and after him there'll be plenty of others.
... Unless the Hayemaker snatches that belt and brings it to Landan, innit. ;)

BUT if Haye gets killed we are right back where we were.

NO, I give Haye mad respect for challenging. But the thing is, hes a unknown over here in the states. And i belive he would make way more money if he fought some HBO fights first. With his style he would defiently get peoples attention.
Yes this fight is great for us boxing fans right now.
BUT if Haye gets killed we are right back where we were. If Haye wins, the rematch would be bigger but the non-boxing fans already missed the first one fight.
If HBO were any good at marketing these guys they would secure the rights to a couple Haye fights and put them on demand.
I showed my brother the Haye-Macca fight (he isn't even a casual fan) and when it was over he said he wouldn't mind seeing either guy fight again.

So you'd have had no problem with O'Neil Bell jumping up to HW a few years back and fighting the top HW without fighting anyone with a pulse first?
It's not a case of whether I have a problem with it. It's a case of whether he would have taken the fight if he could get it.
Haye and Haye's promoters want to fight Klitschko and fight him now. Haye is in his own backyard in London and they both will make quite a bit off of this fight. It's on no doubt for this summer and it's gonna be a great one. Do work Haye take over.
You've got to be taking the mick, right...? Why would Haye need Wlad's leftovers? He'd most likely KO them quicker, too (i.e. Barrett).
So you think Haye stopping a 37 year old Barret, 16 mo after he was starched in 2 by a clubfighter, quicker than Wlad stopping a once beaten, never stopped, 29 year old Barret, actually means something? You don't like Wlad's leftovers? How about Dimitrenko, Povetkin, Arreola, Chambers, hell anyone with a pulse? I thought David promised to fight two top 10 contenders at HW. I've yet to see him fight one. He didn't even look good in his one showing against an old, washed up, never has been.
I don't get this 'unproven at HW' crap. Haye was the undisputed cruiserweight champ, so he can box. You might argue he isn't big enough, or may be chinny, but neither of those are likely to change much. If he can get Wlad now, go for it - why mess about?

I do see what your saying entirely, and thought similar myself more so when Haye was fighting Vitali. Reason being Haye for me has shown he's a legitimate top 10 HW fighter with a shot at good things. By rushing it against Vitali, in my and many's eyes he was just going to rush, lose to a tough chinned beast and waste it all as he said even if he could climb back up he wouldn't want to.
This is still somewhat true for Wlad as there's a good chance he'll lose that one. So I do see what your saying, a couple more wins, establishing himself more would be great.
But you have to respect that Haye doesn't care about that. He thinks he's in his physical prime, doesn't like to mess around, just wants to train hard, get in there and see if he can do the business. If he can't I think he feels he never would have been able to anyway, so it was worth a shot. Now I think maybe he would improve a little with more experience, but the guy has a good point, reasonable logic, and is fearless in taking on whoever, where ever.

Haye is certainly right to jump the line not many people would care about anything else. I would rather haye fought one more fight but hes a man on a mission. Its great its on setanta as it raises peoples awarness of haye in england and will raise his profile most pubs will be packed:). I do hate setanta though complete waste of money why cant skyjust buy them or something???

The only HW fights that mean anything are Haye vs one of the K bros and Valuev vs one of the K bros. Nobody would get excited about anything else at HW, and really wouldn't be excited about one of em against Valuev, it'd just be the last unification fight. Haye's right to jump str8 to the top and target Wlad.
