Better fighter Margarito or Pavlik. Who is the better overall fighter

I think Pavlik is better, even P4P. Tony really should be fighting at 154 or 160, but he's able to starve himself down to 147. I would still like to see a Pavlik/Margarito fight at MW if he moves up. Pavlik would murder him.

Pavlik destroys him within 4 rounds or so. :boxing: So this is a thread killer. P4P shouldn't matter because this fight COULD happen. Pav > Block hands.

Marg's got more weapons in his arsenal, better body attack, stronger chin, better inside fighter.

both guys are slow as hell, but pavlik has better fundamentals and better power.

Pavlik is not more well rounded offensively. He relies on the 1-2 left jab straight right. It's pretty much his only offense. Tony throws all sorts of punches from all different angles. He's far more versatile offensively, and his workrate is better too. He's got a better chin but Pavlik has slightly better D. Margarito also has power in both hands while Pavlik's left is pretty useless. I'd say Margarito is definitely the better fighter. Watch him against McKart, Cason, Zuniga, Miranda, etc. The guy has power in both hands. His left hook to the body is particularly good. He has hurt/dropped/stopped many fighters with the left hand. Pavlik has been particularly effective with the right hand lately, so I think it has left a lasting impression in peoples minds. Saying his only offense is the jab/cross is just flat out wrong though. He can fight effectively behind the jab, he can switch it up and lead with power shots, and he can hurt/finish a fighter with punches to the head or body with either hand.

Most of Margarito's losses came when he was younger,plus he fights at ww,that devision is stacked with elite fighters,besides Pavlik and Abraham,who is there at middleweight?

Pavlik is more well rounded offensively and his technique is better. Kelly does what works, just like Margarito does what works. I really do not believe that Margarito has a far better better punch variety and anyone that says his defense is better is getting a bit ridiculous. Punch variety - Kelly is a more traditional fighter than Margarito. He fights behind a jab, throws textbook combinations behind the jab and mixes it up when he sees the openings. Margarito comes forward and uses the jab for a brief period of time to set himself up to throw an array of power punches. Long right hands, left hooks to the body, left uppercuts, come back with a right to the body or another right hand upstairs. He can get away with things that other fighters cannot get away with because of his incredible punch resistance. I have seen Pavlik hurt/finish people with some pretty awesome combinations. Straight right, right to the body, left hook upstairs, left to the body. He put JErmain in trouble with the right hand, but he finished him off with a nice variety of punches including a right(?) uppercut which was the killshot pretty much. Taylor had no idea it was coming. Pavlik will switch it up and lead with the sweeping left hook, followed by a straight right. He'll lead with a straight right and come back with a left hook or to the body or the uppercut. I think he has fallen in love with the jab/cross a bit since he whooped up on Zertuche however. He's a much better body puncher than he gets credit for too...anyone who watched him fight Bronco McKart knows what I'm talking about.

People don't realize that he DOES have defense. But he doesn't utilize it as much as he used to. He and his team made the conscious decision to be more offensive therefore sacrificing defense for more marketability and its worked. The "fans" who always criticize his lack of defensive prowess are the same fans that won't even bother watching his fight history. Funny enough, they are the same fans that start crying when people call Floyd boring and always bring up Floyd's older fights as proof of excitement. yup. cotto said it was IMPOSSIBLE to land body shots against margarito, margarito is not a straight forward moving object, thats why it annoys me when people try to compare him to baldomir and predict an easy floyd win, he has good footwork and defence for an offensive fighter.

Margo is better p4p, but pavlik is sort of freakish in his workrate an determination, you should never write him off in a fight IMO

What do you think? margarito is imo p4p the better fighter. pavlik hs a good chin, good accumulative punching power, is strong, will walk you down, throws plenty of punches and has a big heart but margarito just edge him in very single one of those areas. bernard is not a powerful puncher yet he looked as though he had hurt pavlik at times. cotto on the other hand is a pretty powerful puncher who landed flush on several occasions but marg didn't even seem fazed by it. marg has a wider variety of punche, for all of kelly's hype hes not really got much after the jab, straigh right and occasional left hook. marg has an awesome array of punches that he throws from different angles, the most lethal of which are his uppercuts which he throws on the inside.

I think Pavlik has the better fundamentals but Margarito has the better intangibles so I guess it depends on what you like. margarito. watch margarito put his punches together, the guy is pretty smart, not many people can triple or quandrouple their uppercuts and body punch at the same time. he also has great footwork which he uses to trap his opponents and a pretty solid defence. i agree with both. the variety and way Marg puts his punches together can be quite impressive and his constant pressure is also impressive he walks you down with purpose Pavlik will walk you down but i don't sense the same kind of intensity and urgency. saying that Kelly's jab and following right hand are extremely effective look at zertuchi and Lockett
