Berto went flying across the ring and only the ropes held him up. Frequently throughout the night, Bob Papa referred to a "knockdown" in rd 1, but it was never called a knockdown in the first place. A 10-8 round would have made the outcome a majority draw. What are your thoughts.
Should it have been called a knockdown?!?
For a technical KD, you gotta hit the ropes or corner at such an angle that you clearly woulda hit the floor had it been at center ring. Good example is the 12th rd of Izzy-Raf 3. I think it was excusable.
Any time the ropes help to keep you on your feet, it's a KD. Berto would've clearly went to the ground if the ropes weren't there, so it should be a KD.
No. It was not a knock down. It was pissing me off that Bob kept saying it was. It was a great shot but it wasn't a knock down. He did go flying back to the ropes but he wasn't holding himself up with the ropes.
I think Collazo edged the fight though. I thought he should have won but it was so close that I can see why Berto was awarded with the win.
i always said that a close fight would go to berto. no way hbo, al haymon and/or dibella were letting a close one go to lou....
true. huge difference from two fatigued guys pushing each other around and falling over each other, then berto getting smashed with a straight left and flying across the ring. off balance or not, i think it can be argued it was kd-worthy.
if you disagree, that is fair, but the comparison to collazo falling over/getting pushed over in the 12th doesnt fly. if that was a knockdown, then how about counting the time collazo pushed over berto when they were falling all over the ring as a knockdown, too. and if thats the case, there is a strong argument that the the drool lou hit berto with while he was on the ground merits a 10-7 round for lou on principal....I think neither was a KD,but if it is one it would be the Berto stumble in the first round. But really neither were KD material.
Berto didn't even land a punch during that sequence.

no. and if thats a knockdown, then luis crumbling to his knees halfway through the 12th is a knockdown to.Berto didn't even land a punch during that sequence.
if the ropes hold you up from falling down it's a kd, otherwise it's not a kd.
Thing is, when your leaning on the ropes, intentionately fall back on them a bit either to stay or bounce back, your technically being held up by the ropes. If they weren't there you'd be on your arse.
So it's difficult to really judge and they'll always be varying views on it. Plus don't different organisations have slightly differently worded rules on it? I'm sure someone posted IBF's recently for a bout awhile back.
being saved by the ropes and only being held up by the ropes are two different things. it shouldn't be ruled a knockdown because he was mostly off balance and properly regained himself.

I've seen that particular incident but not the whole fight, and I'd say probably not, no.
By the way, your sig gif, those had to be literally the only positive moments Paulie had in that fight?
hopefully he can land a good money fight and come out on top. he proved he's one of the best.
and seeing joe and george... yea that was awesome. they also referred to joe when the commentators were talking about how collazo stepped up his training and hired a conditioning coach (thats joe), and george's mug was all over my screen, lol. he was the one screaming "AND NEW" before they announced the winner. That was awesome.
yea Joe ****ing runs you to the ground.. he had me doin the burpees pushups jump[in jack crazy drill.. i did 3 rounds and was gassed.. hes like come on Lou does 3 more no problem im like yea thats ****in lou
No way. Wasn't even close. He got knocked back a little, shit happens all the time.
I wouldn't say it's not even close. Whether he was hurt or not is completely irrelevant... see Collazo flash knockdown against Hatton.
after watching it again I think the ref made the correct call. Berto was knocked backward and falling but he regained his balance just before falling into the ropes and remained upright almost solely under his own strength.
yo Lou stays getting ****ed.. but his performance last night will get him some more big fights no matter what.. yo did u see Joe and george in the ring with him?
