He said boxing needs young champions for the future of boxing so he wont fight young fighters like Dawson but he's willing to fight the young Jermaine Taylor and is gunning for him.
Hopkins clearly, picking his fights.
No, its not. NOt in this age of boxers who still go on strong into there mid 30s
"Afraid of no one?!"
Felix Trinidad is still waiting for Hopkins to accept a rematch!
You sound like a Hopkins hater..
Why would Bhop fight Tito again?? He beat that man silly for 12 rounds before he knocked him out
What? no the hell he is not!.....
hes a legend but hes not the most accomplished fighter by far........ floyd is more accomplished then him
i think its sven ottke
Come on. Hopkins doesn't fear anybody. The man is a legend. Look at the last 5-7 guys he has fought. Dawson is fighting Tarver, hopefully Calzaghe doesn't duck Hopkins for a rematch, and then the two winners can face off. Dawson is a great prospect, and I'd like to see Calzaghe man up and fight Dawson, but I want to see Dawson beat Mr. Rematch one more time before I give him the praise I'm thinking of giving him.
What i meant was that Hopkins knows fighters that has a bad style match up for him, and he sees that in Dawson. As far as him actually knowing that he'd lose the fight going in, of course not because he has pride. That's what i meant. Poor wording on my part.
Is that how it works now?
"He knows he can't beat him, so he won't fight him"
So I'm right to say that Chad Dawson "knows he can't beat Glen Johnson, so that's why there isn't a rematch"? Hopkins wants a Joe Calzaghe fight because he wants to avenge his loss. He might change his mind on Chad Dawson anyway if he knocks out Antonio Tarver or something.
Chad Dawson "knows he can't beat Adrian Diaconu" that's why he pulled out of a fight with him :lol1: Of course that isn't true, but by your logic it sounds like it is.
Joe Calzaghe's workrate and speed is just as good as Chad Dawson's. A Jermain Taylor fight won't happen because there is no public interest.
Bernard won't fight him because hes smart, and hes know's he won't win the fight, its as simple as that. Big difference between Dawson not fighting Diaconu and Hopkins not fighting Chad. Dawson didn't fight Diaconu because Tarver was better known and a bigger money fight, and Chad stated that he had no problem fighting Diaconu. Lets not forget that Dawson was already signed to fight him two times, and Diaconu pulled out the first time with a week and a half left. Would Dawson have went that far and went through all of the training if he was scared? I'm not knocking Hopkins, hes a great fighter and he allowed to fight anyone he wants.
Dawson already beat Johnson, and he would unify with him if he beats Diaconu( which i see him doing) so that's not a problem. As for Joe being as fast as Dawson, i don't agree. I count power with speed and Dawson is not only more accurate and with his cleaner punches and more accurate punches, they stand out more than Joe's flurries( which is why Hopkins won rounds by only throwing a few shots a round). Dawson is much bigger than Joe and i feel is the better boxer and body puncher.
Wee to be honest, Hopkins once did say and I quote, "There is no fight I would take unless I was certain that I could win". He said something like that while he was considering moving up to heavyweight to fight Maskaev for the WBC HW title. He said he was certain he could beat Oleg but said he would never fight someone like Samuel Peter who he says is too big and strong for him.
And Hopkins is one of my favorite fighters but he could be thinking that stylistically, Dawson is too much of a problem and best he could do is make it an ugly fight and lost a decision again.
I think it's more of a case of him wanting to redeem himself because he kind of made himself look like an idiot by saying the white boy comment and then losing. He wants Joe more then anyone else right now. Maybe he's showing Chad Dawson no interest so he doesn't bug him.
I mean if Calzaghe retires (hopefully he'll make a decision in the next month or so), then Bernard will make up his mind then.
I like both so I'd rather see neither fight.
If bernard loses he ends his career with 6 losses and a final loss.
If Chad loses hes got no chance of being this undefeated great which he has potential to be. Nto that he cannot recuperate its just that it'll take time!
i agree with everything except that part
every fighter once in a while has defensive lapses.most would agree with you but that's only because he's more offensively oriented.
I know that. It's just that his logic is flawed because Hopkins has more interest fighting Calzaghe then he does Dawson. To be honest, I don't think Hopkins has interest in fighting Dawson which sucks, but it certainly isn't because "HE KNOWS HE'D LOSE"

heres how i see it:
hopkins vs dawson @ 175 - hopkins by UD, i can see hopkins spotting a flaw in dawsons make-up and expliting it, i can see him timing him well and neutralizing his speed and he has enough know-how and nous to slow the pace of the game down. whats more dawson has been staggered before and i can see hopkins hurting him.
hopkins vs taylor @ 170 - i see taylor getting another SD over popkins, just think he has the old champs number.
why does america need an undefeated fighter? what a load of bull! it would be interesting to see if you feel that its right, if so then don't you think that it prevents other fighters from gaining exposure that is rightfull theirs (johnson, kessler).
is hopkins afraid of anyone? hmm i dont think hes afraid in the traditional sense but imo he does duck fighters and has ducked fighters beforehand.
some ppl would say that if hopkins was really not scared of dawson he would take the fight with him now. i dont buy into that. i think hopkins has made some very good decisions in the past, i think he is probably one of the shrewdest players in the game and its no surprise to me that DLh hs recruited him as part of GBP. hopkins has a very acute and buisness like mind.
he knows that if he was to defeat dawson now it would still not mean anything while zaghe is out there. imo he will wait for calzaghe to retire and then look to take on daswon, imo he will win and become a 2 time world LHW champ.

Chad Dawson didn't fight Adrian Diaconu because he wanted to fight Tarver for $$ and it was going to be televised on Showtime. Even though Dawson would of gotten over million dollars against Diaconu, it actually would of been less because it was not going to be televised on Showtime, and money would of been taken away due to contract agreements with his promoter. If Dawson couldn't get the fight with Tarver, he would of fought Diaconu instead, Dawson even said so himself.
Hopkins won't fight Dawson cos he doesn't need to... there's no reason to
what he said about not wanted to beat another up-n-comer was clearly just a bit of bravado
I hope you don't really buy into that. If that was true, then he wouldn't have beaten Pavlik and that fight showed that Bernard cares about his legacy more then future stars. If he felt he could beat Dawson, he would have fought him. In this era, hes probably the fighter that made the best career decisions. He knows he can't keep up with Dawson's speed or work rate at this level, and want's to keep the momentum in his favor by fighting Taylor or Joe again.

Look at it this way. What if - and I'm just saying IF - Hopkins schools Dawson like Young Pavlik. That's one more young champion exposed by and almost retired fighter. While one loss isn't the end, it diminished these guys aura of invincibility and they're not even great champions yet.
Pavlik was one of the hottest things prior to the Hopkis loss, as was Cotto. How about now?????? Cotto doesn't have it as bad because he can bounce back and have a great Marquez/Vasquez-esque triology with margarito and both fighters legacy gets bigger from it. But Pavlik???
B-Hop doesn't have anything else to prove, he has every right to fight whoever he wants at this point. He right though, that there needs to be atleast one unbeaten American star at that class, if Dawson were to lose to Hopkins there would be no one else to be a star at that class. It would hurt the sport, sort of like Pavlik getting dominated by B-Hop has kind of hurt the sport since prior to that Pavlik was starting to be labeled as th next American star of boxing.

I wouldn't want B-Hop to fight Dawson due to the fact that I like Dawson and itwould be a shame to see him get "shot" down by The Executioner... And the reason y I think Bernard chose to fight Kelly was because of him trying to justify his loss to Taylor...
The reason he fought Kelly was because he was the perfect opponent( and wanting to regain some momentum he had lost in the Joe fight),not necessarily the case with Dawson.

dawson would beat hopkins.dawson is 6-3, a southpaw, quick , wicked combo puncher, and very good defensively.i wanna see this fight happen.
dawson should go after taylor before hopkins does.
