1. It's interesting that people classify him as a fighter with a bad chin... why is that? Is it because Kostya Tszyu knocked him out? Not a great benchmark to judge a chin by IMO. Or is it because he got KO'd against Cotto, when in reality, the fight was beaten out of him and he finished the fight on his feet? Cotto's power at 147 is pretty overrated IMO, but it's not like you can just take flush punches on the chin from him and stand up if you have a glass chin, and Judah did take flush punches on the chin.
2. It's also interesting to me that he doesn't have a glass chin. Judah's problem is that he fights way too hard in the early rounds IMO, and leaves himself without the energy to effectively fight in the later rounds. He looks so spectacular in the early rounds, and then fades. Generally fighters who do that are susceptible to KOs because they are so exhausted. I'm watching Morales-Jones right now, and he has taken quite a few good punches on the chin, just like he did against McKinney. He was able to get a good lead against both because he did fight so hard, but then was just spent when he got KOd in the 4th round both times. Judah fights the same way as Jones, but his chin holds up much better.
Those are two things that I was thinking about that I just wanted to let out.
Judah's chin isn't that good, he has gotten hurt in quite a few fights by not so big punchers and his problem is more mental than physical, he doesn't seem seriously gassed at all after 5 or 6 rounds like Junior Jones used to be, he just seems to lose focus after the first few rounds, he wasn't like that when he was in the Duva camp, this all started happening after he left them.
Zab has above average hand speed, his cardio just isnt up to par. Zab cannot fight backwards, meaning when his opponents catch his style and start putting pressure on him, he crumbles easily. If he stopped relying so much on his offensive power (which i beleive is one of the best in the buisness) he would have been one hell of a force if he upped his defense. Simply put, he just wasnt an all around fighter. When u put him in situations he wasnt used to, he crumbled like a cookie.
I've got two things about Judah, he should go back down to 140 and learn how to fight a full 12 rounds, or he should end his career in the sport of boxing.
The problem with Judah is that he doesn't have good ring intelligence. He could compliment that with a trainer that prepares him better and gives good ring advice. The other problem is that his dad is a horrible trainer.
