HBO will replay their best fights of 2008. According to BS posters, Margarito vs Cotto is the best of those fights. Now I ask you this. Did Showtime's top fight, Marquez vs Vasquez III, outdo HBO's best fight?
Which was better?
Marquez vs Vazquez was PROBABLY SLIGHTLY better but rightly or wrongly the fact that Cotto and Tony are bigger makes up for such a tight gap. Cotto is my favourite fighter too so thats why i rate it higher.
Also i thought the wrong man got the nod in the Izzy fight. I thought Marquez squeaked it but a draw would have been fitting IMO

a fight between 2 mexicans is better than a fight between a mexican and a puerto rican.
There's no way Cotto-Margarito was better than Vazquez-Marquez. I think a lot of people don't get Showtime so they just vote for the HBO fight. HBO hasn't held the fight of the year since Gatti and Ward booted up. It's been all Showtime ever since.
Yeah, Showtime has been tearing it up when it comes to FOTY.

Cotto vs Margarito...they were 147 pounds trading leather...one guy pounded the other for 6 rounds and then the other guy pounded the other dude for 5 rounds.
It ended in a conclusive fashion....Vasquez/Marquez went to a decision and was a very close fight that I had Marquez winning.
Vasquez/Marquez was better. I think Cotto/Margarito might have had more consistant action, but Marquez/Vasquez had bigger moments. The 12th and 4th rounds were pretty remarkable. I might have Adamek/Cunningham over both actually.
Yeah, I remember that 12th round. I knew right there that Marquez let that fight slip away from him. Props to Vasquez for bringing it with all he had at the very end.
I missed that Cunningham fight, looks like I'll have to download it now.

Izzy-Raf was a lil better, although they basically followed the same pattern of both fighters each dominating 1 half of the fight. Boxer piles up points, then the puncher beats the hell out of em in the back half. Izzy-Raf was all around a lil more skillful too.
Yes, awesome fight.

They were Both awesome battles and entertaining to the MAX... Cotto Marg ended with a KO... so.. That's why it gets my vote..
Marquez v. Vasquez was better then Cotto v. Margarito, no doubt about it. The skill level was higher and two little guy who carry bombs in there hands. And you never knew who the winner was till the end.
Weight classes shouldn't matter. In fact, its insulting to go with one fight just because of the size involved.
That's true.
My only requirement is they need to have some pop. I can't stand watching fighters who throw 400,000 punches and nobody even gets a scratch.
But then I realized I was overlooking some great fighters!

Vazquez/Marquez was a sea saw battle. Competitive from both sides with an edge of your seat ending.
The difference between Vazquez/Marquez and Cotto/Margarito is that V/M was a classic FIGHT while C/M was a classic PREFORMANCE by Margarito.

Subtract one vote for "I can't decide", it was an error.
Marquez-Vazquez was a more entertaining fight and the one that I would most likely watch again. I have watched it a number of times and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Marg-Cotto was a good fight, but the long-term replay value isn't as high.
So apart from my voting error, it's Marquez-Vazquez that I would pick. I tend to like fights with ebb and flow, peaks and valleys.
Marg-Cotto was just like watching a guy gradually get crushed by a steamroller, or wrestling with an epileptic lawnmower while drunk. Fun for a while but there's not that much to watch, it's more of a monotonous beating. I also expected Marg to win anyway, so no real surprises there for me.

I think Cotto vs Margarito, because the way the fight went through and the outcome too. It was a great great fight. Very entertaning fight!!!!!!!!
You know, I probably would have picked that fight now that I'm thinking about how it ended. But I was at the Home Depot for Marquez vs Vasquez III and perhaps I let that pull me towards picking that fight. The atmosphere was crazy, which I'm sure was the case at the MGM for Tony vs Miguel.
Tough one they both were for ligitamate titles!!But Margarito-Cotto was at the higher weight,so that might give it an edge!!Showtime for a few years has had fight of the year awards,I always thought their cards on regular tv compared to HBO and ppv, were better quality, plus they had the fight of the century,"Corrales-Castillo"!!
