It's a question that has been going through my mind lately. Please vote in the poll. I'm not including the other weight classes like 130, 140. I'm just doing the divisions he was able to hold 3 titles in.
So that means Henry Armstrong beats:
-Chris John (Top Featherweight. There's no champ in the division, but he is the best)
-Juan Manuel Marquez (135 Champ)
-Antonio Margarito (#1 Welterweight, almost champ if he beats Cotto again)
Also another question that is not going to be in the poll, could he draw with Kelly Pavlik or beat him?
the problem with this thread is, not enough people know or have seen henry armstrong fight, and will just ASSUME that he couldnt hang with the fighters of today...
I've seen Henry Armstrong fight, and he wouldnt beat Margarito or Marquez. He was nothing more than a brawler who outworked his opponents on sheer volume end determination.
That shit wont work with Margarito, and JMM is good enough to outbox him imo. Hank wasnt a big puncher.
I think he could have beaten Margarito, but he could definetly lose to him and it would be close. Armstrong had just of a good of chin as Margarito imo and his workrate was better and he was faster.
I think Margarito would definietly have him moments, but Armstrong's upperbody movement and body attack would give him the edge.
I think Marquez is a pretty competitive fight too, but he might stop Marquez in the later rounds.
with all the weight cutting in modern boxing......
would it be more fair for armstrong if you say bantamweight , featherweight , lightweight?
he was only 5'5.

John would rob Armstrong blind in Indonesia. Now, If Armstrong wins but doesn't knock Marquez out at superfeather and Marquez keeps the fight close; Marquez would pester Armstrong with rematch calls, insisting he was robbed, possibly delaying his jump to Middle for a year or so. If Armstrong gets past Marquez, Arum wouldn't let Armstrong fight Margarito, NEVER. So the answer is a "no".
shit good question
wow umm
im honestly not sure
he would overwhelm john and marquez
him and margs would be a classic, classic battle... two workhorses with great chins and stamina slugging it out..i think armstrong could do it..but it would be very hard..i dont know if you can go toe to toe with marg and win but if anyone could..it would be henry
i reckon he could beat pavlik, just stay on his chest and dont let him find his range
ok im tentatively going to say yes he could do it.. but thats four very good fighters...
Do you seriously think a 5'5" Armstrong, who was 140lbs on fight night, could beat 6'2", 170lb fight night Pavlik? Seriously?
As for the thread, John and Marquez, but not Margarito, who would just be too big, outweighing him by about 20 lbs and with serious height and reach advantages.
I'm really not sure. I picked the wrong poll choice by accident, btw. I intended to vote yes, but damn, really not sure if he could pull it off. I'll give Hery the benefit of the doubt, though. ;)

Armstrong was only 5'5-5'6 and never weighed much more than 140 lbs in his prime.
Margarito would have been a middleweight back then, Pavlik would've probably been a light heavyweight (because the weigh-ins were held at the day of the fight). The champions Armstrong defeated for the welterweight and the middleweight titles weren't big welter/middleweights even for their era.
I see Armstrong doing great anywhere from featherweight to light welterweight but it's hard to say how he would've done against the likes of Margarito and Williams.
Which is why threads like these are ****ing stupid and silly. Infants talking about fighters before their time. LMAO. Leave that to the oldies like Merchant etc.
Its silly to talk about anything in the past?:thumbsdow

i wouldn't put it past him to beat those 3.
problem is he wouldn't be able to hold all those belts.
he'd beat john at 126 and when he challenges marquez at 135 one of the orgs will say you can't fight marquez you have to fight sfhjlsfhjl wqohroioasf from buttfuck timbuktu. he's your mandatory.

I said no, but it has nothing to do with the opposition, and everything to do with the way boxing is set up nowadays. Look at Paul Williams, he steps up in weight and his belt is immediately taken. It's too hard in boxing with all the mandatories, governing bodies, and interim titleholders to rule the way Armstrong did.
By the way, Armstrong would probably school all three of those guys.
