Just heard from Adam Booth (Haye's Promoter\Trainer) that the fight in June in London will be at our time 10-11pm (whats that, like 4-5pm in the US?) and will not be made later (usually 2-3am UK time) to suit US audience, thats gonna p*ss HBO\Showtime off a little if they want to sell the fight
I hear what you brit brits are saying
I dont have a problem with a fight being at 4 or 5 pm
It just means I have to start the Q a little earlier and start drinking a little earlier too
HELL YEAH!!!!!!
^ What he said. WWoSports used to be on in the afternoon...as a kid seems like alot of big fights were on in the late afternoon to early evening.
AGainst Tiger Wladimir made over 8M $. The Klitschkos don't need HBO or SHowtime. RTL, german network station, are paying them very, very well (over 3M € per fight only for German tv-rights).
they may be making alot of money in germany, but they could make alot more if they fought all their fights in the US on HBO PPV. but I don't think the klitschko's main priority is $$$ although they are still making alot of it.
I dont see anything wrong with the U.K. refusing to hold the event at a time that pleases the U.S.
and as you all know im from the U.S. and will be the first to say i dont think its fair to alter the start of their event to please another country.
I agree, but when fights are made overseas... its not like American's are breathing down the necks of our European brothers to "Make this work for us Yanks!!!" Its their choice when they will and won't hold the fight. The reason its done according to U.S. primetime is because the greatest revenue is generated in the U.S. So its just the lesser of two evils, but I'm glad that there is such a dramatic shift in the geographical location of the greatest support for the sport that places in Europe are now saying, "we don't need your primetime!"
Well it's not that un reasonable, perhaps 11, with a likely 11:30 GMT actual start time works about right, thats what 6ish?
Surely decent numbers still watch fights around this time, before saying going out? It's easier in some ways I'd have thought. 3/4am on the other hand is literally, body clock changing. So not a big deal imo, 11ish is fine.
Good, we have to stay up until 4 & 5 in the morning to watch US fights.
haha... I actually never thought about it like that. Guess we owe you guys a fight at a decent time. Still wish we could see Haye-Vitali live without having to stream it

Who cares. It's a heavyweight fight to get excited about.

Here in the U.S. we dont really alter the start of our fights to please anyone else so why should they have to do it for us?
and on another note i kind of enjoy tuning into a fight with a late lunch on a saturday (like i did for the wlad v. rahman fight) which began at 1:45PM Pacific time.
Its a good change of pace and it actually works out for me because I get to enjoy a good fight and then the rest of my saturday night is free to go out with friends so it works for me.
When calzaghe fought roy jones here in the u.s. it didnt start at a special time...
when hatton fought malignaggi it didnt start at a special time
when hatton fought castillo it didnt start at a special time
get where im going with this.
I believe the fights should air at an comfortable time for the hosting country...
Thats the most fair way to do it.
Uh... This fight would never, ever, ever, ever be on HBO PPV. NEVER. It doesn't matter what time it is on. No one in the states knows those fighters. It'd be the worst selling HBO PPV since Rahman/Maskaev II. That was never a concern.
Vitali Klitschko actually has a big audience in the states. His fights would sell.
Lol. I had it exactly the same way. Playing darts all night with my buddies gettting more and more drunk and more and more tired as the fight was delayed. And then only 91 sec.'s :grumpy:
The former Undisputed Light-Heavyweight Champion of the World Michael Spinks was a terrific fighter.
I was a big fan of his and I was very surprised when Tyson managed to beat him in such little time back in the eighties.

Exactly! longest night of my life was trying to stay awake to watch Tyson - Spinks. Great fight that turned out to be....

Great news. We Brits have to put with 4-5 am fights. Tough shit for the Yanks.

On the contrary, I live on the East Coast (US) and love watching these early fights. The earlier the better...
Yep I was about to come in and type that. Also, I can understand the move cause seriously, the US is not needed here. Sure any extra money will be great but between England and Germany they can be very successful.
And I also think it's a travesty HBO/Show hasn't shown Haye's last fights..
As long as we see a good heavy fight I'll watch it whenever ya kno? I'd do the $50 PPV if they have it but I bet it's jus gonna be on Showtime, or maybe Showtime PPV. Go Haye, you can do it bruh.

Good news for us euros. It's nice to have the fights at this hour.
The yanks can be content to I'd say. They can watch the fight in the late afternoon. Waaaaayyy better than early in the morning.
Nobody in the US know who Vitali is? Did you miss the massive amount of US fans that he had agaist Lewis 2003? Download and rewatch it from WBVA or somewhere. Given the fact that this is for a world title, with a very popular Heavyweight Champ, the fact the Haye is sparring with Lewis (who also works for HBO) i can pretty much gurantee there will be a lot of interest in this fight states side, hey you can always hope than Evander pulls through, got money that that will be a PPV freakshow over there too and it will sell ;-)
