isn't there only a 4 yr age difference between vitali and lewis or less then that? Theres practically a 10 yr age difference between vitali and haye. And while Hopkins is about 8-9 yrs older then Calzaghe. BHOP looked better the older he got since he whooped the likes of fighters like Pavlik, Tarver, late in his career.
Hopkins was on the decline after Tito. Hopkins wasn't good enough to beat a young athletic fighter like Taylor, was he?
Pavlik was good, but he was slow, stiff, moves in one straight line, and is predictable.
Tarver: showed up flat after the weight-loss, just like Jones did for him. Plus, by the time Hopkins got the fight with Tarver, Tarver had been in some bruising fights with Glen Johnson.
Hopkins was an OLD MAN; bottom line.
Lewis was 5 or 6 years older than Vitali, I think. And it's the point of where Lewis was at in his career that mattered; along with years of fighting at the top.
You say Hopkins put on a great performance, well, what did Vitali just do to a younger Sam Peter?
How do you suppose every heavyweight who has paid his dues and is waiting on line feels about this bullshit? Some jerks on the internet can say Haye could beat this guy and that guy but talk is cheap and the reality is that he's never even fought one single top heavyweight in his whole sorry life.
"Big balls"? Give me a f'ing break. Every heavy from the Golden Gloves on up would love to fight a champ for three million dollars.
If Roy Jones Jr. can get a shot at the HW title without fighting a top HW prior; Haye, who was CW Champion, can certainly get it.
At the end of the day, this is still a business...and, it will draw more attention to the sport than the other HW fighter.
The HW division doesn't have much depth in fighters and popularity; that is why he is getting away with it.
Like Calzaghe when he fought Hopkins?
Vitali when he fought Lennox?
Vitali has the title and is recognized as a Champion...so the fight can be made NOW. The younger guys, because they are "younger" can wait until after.
The opportunity to fight Vitali is now or never.

Me too, just because I don't exactly know what Vitali has left. Plus, Vitali was great in his prime but he is much older and looked much slower against sam peter then he has when he was younger. I think I'd give haye more credit if he fought someone his own age.

The Opportunity to fight Vitali is NOW. Vitali is injury prone and 37. Vitali put on a good performance in his last fight so instead of waiting for him to break down again, fight him while he is active and healthy as he can be. If he waits, maybe Vitali decides to retire.
You have to cease the opportunity at hand.
There is no way Arreola beats Haye. Povetkin sure could though and that would be an epic battle. I would much rather see Povetkin fight Haye than Vitali actually.

if david haye beats vitali, he will fight wlad and if he beats wlad he will fight arreola and if he beats arreola, he will fight who ever is next. I'm not saying haye will win all those fights, but IF he were to, he will fight whoever is there for him. he hasn't ran away from any fight to date and I don't think he will ever run from any fight.
Damn right. Boxing is so f'ing crooked. OK, I just watched two Arreola fights on Youtube. Yeah, let's see what the little monkey can do against Arreola first, and then Povetkin, before we hear about a championship fight. Total bullshit. Boxing is so f'ing crooked.
Only way he even beats someone like vitali is if vitali is totally shot which we don't really know since Sam Peter is a shit heavyweight in my opinion to determine if Vitali truly has something left. David Haye should learn to fight younger fighters, not guys who are only getting older.
Povetkin and Arreola are both young, why not test them out before fighting old man Vitali? Vitali didn't look as fast as he once was in the sam peter fight in my opinion. Sam Peter is a slow heavyweight so it's not exactly hard for Vitali to dominate against Sam Peter.
What David Haye is doing makes no tactical sense at all. I don't know why he would want a Klitschko in only his second heavyweight fight.
It will be his 3rd fight at heavyweight... But it doesn't matter since the first 2 fighters he fought at heavy were pretty piss poor. Beating a shot barrett who is wlads left-overs doesn't really seem 2 prove shit...
So in other words, it's quite lame he gets shot at someone like Vitali just because David Haye has a great physique but his stamina is quite questionable because when he has gone the distance he has tired out in later rounds. Povetkin doesn't tire like that, povetkin has great stamina and workrate.
What David Haye is doing makes no tactical sense at all. I don't know why he would want a Klitschko in only his second heavyweight fight. He should at least take one tune-up fight against a guy 6'6" or over, because he hasn't seen that shit at cruiserweight. Jameel McLine would be perfect. A capable trialhorse with a good chin and similar size. In my opinion two or three more fights, done frequentle, 2 months apart, would be better. It also would give time for some excitement about Haye to gather to promote it.
In conclusion: he is really extremely cocky (not necessarily a bad thing) or he is in it for the money (probably a bad thing)
I've never seen Areola, but Haye would have about zero chance against Povetkin.
Yeah, isn't it kind of lame how he can jump from cruiserweight and skip over someone like povetkin to get a shot at someone like vitali? Cheating as in, he gets big pay day without taking a risk and fighting someone like povetkin.
VK and Wlad are almost seen as 1 and the same at this point. Haye was screamin for Wlad for months, so I'm surprised Wlad is lettin VK steal his thunder. But either way it's a KO win for the K bros.
Povetkin has sick amount of stamina. He is constantly throwing punches!!! Someone like that would be a bad style match up for David Haye. And povetkins chin looks pretty steel to me, well as of so far but I don't know if Eddie Chambers is a big puncher.
Honestly he might be trying to cash out. He is in a win win situation, fighting the best, even if he loses he still makes his money, and he lost to the best. If he wins, he has made his money and has beat the best, and now sets up even a bigger fight with Wladimir.
Couldnt agree more

arreola is too fat to beat haye.
povetkin is kind of chunky too but we all know he has pretty fast hands for a guy his size. povetkin also has looked quite good, not going to call him great yet but he dismantled a challenger who came to win like eddie chambers. Doesn't eddie chambers still only have one loss on his record?
First I was thinking that Vitali would definitely beat Haye... But Vitali didn't exactly have a live underdog opponent infront of him in his last fight. He had Sam Peter who seemed afraid to try to throw any punches.
Vitali definitely showed he had great defense and all in that fight but I felt as though Sam Peter was scared before he even stepped in that ring against Vitali... A shot version of Barrett put up more of a fight then Sam Peter did in my opinion...
Is he trying to cash out why he can since one or both of those fighters are very much capable of beating him
If it makes dollars, it makes sense. and he just doesn't want to bother. He'd probably destroy Nipples, and likely Povetkin too(can't judge, haven't seen him fight much), but those aren't big money fights.

How come David haye fights Vitali first and not someone like Arreola or Povetkin | BoxingScene Community
