One day after declaring that the sport of boxing is dying, light heavyweight kingpin Joe Calzaghe ripped into fellow superstar Oscar De La Hoya. "De La Hoya may be two years younger than me, but I am a hungry guy," Calzaghe told the Western Mail. "He has got a lot more money than me as well. That's the big difference in this. He really didn't need to keep fighting. De La Hoya hasn't been a real fighter for years. You can't fault the guy because he has been a great fighter in the past and made so much money from the sport. But, realistically, he has been a part-time boxer for years. That showed last weekend against Pacquiao who was so hungry to win that fight. Unfortunately for De La Hoya he just fell apart at the hinges after the first few rounds. He just didn't have anything there. So hopefully that was his last fight, I don't think he is going to fight again."
So Calzaghe the p4p #3 has no freedom as a top level boxer, to give his view on a recent big event? He beat Hopkins whom was a top 5 p4p guy and has dominated everyone else either side of facing Calzaghe. Don't compare th guys they're totally different and were in totally different divisions and scenario's. People are entitled to freedom of speech.
He gets his freedom of speech when he beats a LEGIT fighter convincingly. He got a gift against Hopkins and slapped a man to death that looks like Roy Jones Jr. Who has he dominated thats actually GOOD or GREAT before old man Jones? dont say Hopkins because he didnt DOMINATE. Dont say Lacy because Lacy isn't nothing and nobody will see that Win on his resume in ten years and say. OMG he beat Lacy.. Because Lacy is shit.

Thats funny, because eventhough he might not a be a full time fighter, he at least had the balls to fight threats, not to mention 2 #1 pound for pound champs, and i dont even care for De La Puta(and i'm defending the guy), Joe go choke yourself......you cant even come close to holding de la putas g-string

None freedom whatsoever, no credence, no nothing. He lost freedom of speech when he decided to fight Jones.

just retire and STFU already joe
At least DLH fought everybody in his prime. DLH got whooped by Pac, because Pac is good. DLH fought a great fight agaisn't Mayweather (#1 p4p at the time) and had a okay tune up agaisn't forbes. So Pac didn't beat a Shot fighter. Now Calzaghe Beat Jones Jr. who been shot since his 2nd fight with Tarver when he got knocked the F*ck out. DLH never been knocked out cold. Jones has twice. Calzaghe is a moron, and i cant wait til he retires.

I was about to cuss Joe but he actually made sense. The title of the thread made me take his comments out of context. We all know Oscar has only been part time for a few years thats not news to anyone.
A little blunt as he sometimes is, but ultimately true. Title is misleading, at least people have read the article to realise that.
They have totally different careers in different divisions so it's not worth comparing. ODL has a good few losses on his record now though, can't argue with that.
I think i speak for a lot of us when i say: Shut up Joe and retire.
Why you hatin on Joe, just cuz youre pissed that you will never get to see him lose! LOL
Joe is wrong about boxing dying, and yeah, De La Hoya's two years younger than him, but Oscar's fought more big names than Joe ever has. Who'd Joe beat that is either in the IBHOF or will be? Roy Jones, Bernard Hopkins by a narrow decision, and probably Chris Eubank, though I'm unsure if he is in the HOF or not. Going in against good opponents tends to take a lot out of a person, and Oscar's faced off against a lot of good people, including Pernell Whitaker, Bernard Hopkins, and Felix Trinidad.
He said he cant fault him for his record, just that he keeps on fighting when he is clearly past it, as a DLH fan i agree with joe!

I don't think that there is much wrong with what joe said regarding De La Hoya, but i doubt it that boxing will ever die... True, it's probably no where near what it once was but there are definitely fighters out there to keep the public interested, and there are exciting fighters coming through.
