From Mich. Marleys Site:
"Sailor Steve Cunningham has more at stake than his IBF cruiserweight title Thursday in Newark when he defends that crown against rough and ready Polack Tomasz Adamek.
Boxing legend Bernard Hopkins is making noises about holding his farewell fight in Philadelphia next year and climbing up to 190 pounds to challenge homeboy Cunningham.
Hopkins mentioned this possible final fight in Las Vegas last week, before the Manny Pacquaio-Oscar De La Hoya fight. Hopkins made it clear to different inquisitors that, since he turns age 44 in January, he has no intention of ever fighting light heavyweight terror Bad Chad Dawson or super middleweight bossman Mikkel Kessler.
HBO suits are contemplating BHop’s cruiserweight title aspirations and reportedly like the idea of the final fight coming in boxing history rich Philadelphia.
Given the dismal financial state of the casinos in Atlantic City, Philly might make more sense as a venue for Hopkins final pro bout.
Cunningham., age 32, stands 6-3 and owns a pro record of 21-1, 11 knockouts. He would have a distinct height and reach advantage over Hopkins."
Would be a good fight.
Reading between the lines it seems as though B-Hop wants to avoid Chad so that Calzaghe & Dawson get it on???
He already did him one favor in beating Pavlik, why another when he won't get ranked #1LHW.
This is false. Bernard has stated before that he has no desire to fight at Crusierweight and wouldn't fight David Haye. Marley has posted some things are on his site that have been fake before such as Vazquez Marquez IV being all signed up and done.
The only thing sounding remotely possible is because Cunningham is from Philly, but he has no desire in becoming Crusierweight champ
Doesn't surprise me too much actually. Talking about RJJ not going to CW after HW got me thinking about this. Hopkins is too clever to go too low in weight now, and realises this is the best fight out there for him. He's clever with his weight and fight options, boxing brain and realisation of his strengths and weaknesses are impressive. A belt in another division would be very impressive.
I don't remember hopkins being 43 years old when fighting tito... :****you:
Hopkins lies about his age. He is really 50 years old now.
The prison records list his year of birth as 1958.
calzaghe would never take a fight like this he would just say "who da fook is steve cunningham?" then he would fight old shot people for millions.
no one knows who steve cunningham is so hopkins is gonna put him on the map and take a dive.
If Calzaghe fights again, I predict it will be against Maccarinelli for the CW title. That would sell out the Millennium Stadium within an hour. Enzo's making noises about going down to LHW (makes much more sense than going up to HW, seeing as he walks around at 200) so there's no reason this couldn't be made at say 185-190. As I rate Mac above Cunningham it'd be as much an achievement as Hopkins would be.
Still, this would be rather excellent if it comes off.
Tua is making it up, the weight difference was only a mere 26 lbs at the day of the fight.

just have the 154 guy jump to 170......
grrr.......
winky was out of shape!
at 160 winky schools hopkins!
winky has a style that is still effective with aging.
Winky's fault.
Maybe he should of focused on training instead of eating krispy kremes. :lol1:
woah are you serious? Hopkins weighed 192 on the day of the fight? whered you get that from?
anyways I have to give it to Hopkins. this is a smart fight for him and quite a risk too, and I think people are going to be more interested in the Cunningham vs. Adamek fight now.

The fight couldn't of been at 160 because i think Hopkins couldn't make it anymore.
prime for prime at 160 though Hopkins wins in similar fashion to what he did.
I would like Winky to return though, he is still a good fighter.
