Who beat the better Hopkins: Jones or Calzaghe?

I think we can all agree that neither version of Hopkins can be considered the prime version, but which is the more impressive victory? I'm not talking about the method of victory by the way and nor am I interested if you think Hopkins beat Calzaghe. Calzaghe beat Hopkins, that is a fact.* Who beat the better Hopkins? The B-Hop that lost to Roy was too green and still a no name. The B- Hop that lost to Calzaghe fought and beat Tarver, WW, Pavlik. no comparison. yea, but he lost to JT not once but twice...

RJJ beat a green Hopkins Hopkins was an experienced defensive master and one of the best p4p fighters in the world when Calzaghe beat him. Calzaghe beat the better Hopkins He was so green he had one more fight that Roy Jones Jr. He was so green he was able to challenge for the title. He was so green he was Prison Champion in boxing. He was so green he never faced Roy again. The only thing Green about Hopkins was the color of his shit that night.

Dirk is a very simple man. He's like "Simple Jack". when BH and RJ fought they were so much closer to their best than the version Cal fought , I guess thats the real point .BHop was in his prime much later in his career than Jones, so inreality his prime was proabably close to Calzaghes. I think the Hopkin Cal fought (And more to the point the Hopkins Pavlik fought)would have easily beat the Hopkin RJJ fought.

Hopkins was no where near his prime when he fought Calzaghe either...Since the statement he was replying too was indicating that the Hopkins that RJJ fought was prime not the one that Cal fought how is that relevant?

Hopkins was no where near his prime when he fought Jones and would've been schooled by his 43 year old version. Jones Jr's victory was more decisive though.

Ima go with Roy on this one, Joe only won imo because of Hopkins age, not because he was the better fighter.. Roy beat a waaaay younger, fresher B-HOP, Joe beat an OLD, smart B-HOP people try to discredit Roys win over B-HOP by saying that hopkins was green and young and not as smart... didnt B-HOP go years without losing after the Roy fight!!!

Because Pavlik was alot more predictable, came forward in straight lines and was slow. Calzaghe attacks in angles, has faster hands and footwork and is alot harder to predict. People need to give Joe more credit, Although Hopkins argueably won Calzaghe took the fight to Hopkins, outworked him and tired him out when it got to the late stages. Yes I realise that my good man. I'd sy about equal, but that green version of B-Hop would have beat Calzaghe.

Being 43 years old, stiff, less punch-out-put, but a good defense, which I never knew Hopkins ever lacked...vs. Middleweight God ;) Roy Jones Jr; will keep the hurt hand version as well. Experience can be overrated. Warren Beatty has lots of experience with "fornicating" but as he got older, he had to settle down and retire from that life; so he married. Hopkins had decent defense early in his career but as he got more experienced he went from having decent defense to being near unhittable. i don't see what you mean by stiff, Hopkins is far from it.

Jones by far. Hopkins was faster, stronger, more agressive and overall a better fighter. As for those of you who said Old Hopkins, Watch the RJJ fight!! because it is obvious none of you have. Bernard Hopkins lost to Taylor Twice and Taylor isn't half the fighter and Athlete Roy was in his prime. Taylor also has iffy stamina. Bernard can't beat fighters like Roy which is why he never fought him again. Bernard was more athletic back then. He threw more punches. He had great stamina. This was his only hope to getting Roy and he couldn't overcome it. And wasn't Roy's right hand hurt for this fight? Old Hopkins: Stiff, Stamina Problems, and Doesn't punch enough...43 ****in years old. Perfect opponent for that: Stiff, Lanky, Tin Man style fighting Middle-weight Pavlik who walks in a straight line and is predictable. Good post. And yes, Roy had hand problems during that fight.

How come he managed to sustain it against Kelly Pavlik? Pavlik was throwing less in that fight as well...not sure why...maybe Hopkins mentally shut him down by using angles so it confused Pavlik. Hopkins was able to set his own pace.
