By Paul Upham: As he enters the final three weeks of training for his Dream Match boxing super fight with Manny Pacquiao on December 6, the “Golden Boy” Oscar De La Hoya is feeling comfortable already weighing below the welterweight limit of 147lbs.
“I have been weighing 145lbs now for the last three weeks,” De La Hoya said on Monday, speaking from his training camp at Big Bear, California. “The weight is no problem. I feel strong. I do have to admit in the first couple of days that I did make the weight or tried making weight a month ago, I did feel a little light headed and weak, but now that we got used to it and now that weeks have passed by, we feel strong and fast and very comfortable with welterweight. I’m even thinking of going back down to 140 after this fight so, we’ll see.”
35 year-old De La Hoya 39-5 (30) is moving down from junior middleweight for his battle with pound for pound No.1 Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, who is moving up from lightweight.
The fact that the smaller Filipino boxer Pacquiao 47-3-2 (35) may actually be weighing more than him right now doesn’t surprise De La Hoya.
“It doesn’t shock me one bit,” he said. “My way of training and my way of eating has just been very strict, therefore it has been very easy for me to make this weight.”
While some boxers only make their required weight limit on the day of the pre-fight weigh-in, De La Hoya feels it was best that he get under the welterweight limit weeks before his mega fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, televised in the USA on HBO Pay-Per-View.
“It has been very important,” he explained. “I haven’t made 147 since I fought Arturo Gatti (March 2001), I just want to make sure that I feel comfortable and I feel strong. That I feel full of energy. I want to make my body adapt to this weight class. Now that I have been on weight for several weeks now, we can eat whatever I want.”
De La Hoya says that preparing in the mountains at Big Bear under new trainer Nacho Beristain has revitalized him at this later stage of his long stellar career.
“Being up here in Big Bear, it has once again ignited that fire in my belly,” he said, “which hasn’t burned in many years. I’m ready to go.”

when have you ever heafd a perosn or a fighter syaing that they are not in their best shape ever. De la hoya made weight 4 weeks before the fight. When have you seen that?
Roy Jones said he was not at his best at all, and badly weight drained before his first tarver fight. Matter of fact when they asked him how do you feel on a scale of 1-10 before the fight he said 7.
Well, for one, for beating a 147 De La Hoya who claimed to be strong, healthy, and better than ever.

Will you clowns give Pacquiao his props now?

he was promoting his fight.
im sure u know this...
what I can give you is that the majority of the casual fans and some hardcorefans thought that dlh was suppose to whoop packy's ass that night
Damn, I dont even remember this thread. It was like the good and the bad for Oscar. You have to give him mad props because he had been such a heavy guy for so long but managed to get all the way down to 145 early and was thinking about going down to 140. Thats impressive to knock off all that weight. The bad is that it was dumb. It was bad enough that he weighed in at 145 but I didnt know that he was like that for nearly 2 months before the fight. No wonder why he was dead in the ring. Thats crazy
i think it'd be great if pacquiao actually weighed more than dlh the night of the fight.
Bottom line is pacquiao will still be faster than dlh regardless of him looking relatively sluggish compared to the diaz fight at welter. But if pacman weighs more than dlh dec 6th i dont care how good oscar's left hook is he aint knocking down pacman
wow this is really a great prediction!!
Just thought I'd bump this. De La Hoya must of been cutting so much, weight he was actaully talking about going down to 140lb.
He was dead at thr weight at 147, can you imagine him at 140?

YA I THINK I COULD STARVE MYSELF A LIL AND BEAT UP COUPLE OTHER OF THE SMALLER GUYS AND SQUEEZE COUPLE BUCKS OUTTA THE FANS
but if anyone can do this
its oscar
u cant say
why dont u go up in weight
cuz he has
lots of times
to fight the bigger stronger guys
ROFL!...............good one.
It's disgusting really. Oscar knows he can't take on legitimate fighters his own size anymore so now he's fighting the little guys. My god. Pacquiao started at 104 lbs!
I've lost alot of respect for DeLaHoya. When he wins, he's already acclaimed it as "beating the #1 p4p." Yeah...a truly spectacular victory.
106 actually. But he only weighed 97 lbs at the time. He had to weigh in with metal in his pockets to even make minimumweight starting out
TITO DID EXPOSE oscar AS THE TRUE WARRIOR THAT oscar IS, FIGHTING VARGAS AND MAYORGA, AFTER STATING HE WOULDN'T GIVE THEM THE OPPORTUNITY UNTIL TITO KO'D THEM, AND FIGHTING MIDGETS IN PBF, FORBES, SSM, AND NOW PAC-MAN!!! WHAT'S NEXT? CHRISTY MARTIN???:boxing:

oh such nonsense, he's just trying to make him vs pac sound vaguely fair, which its not. and trying to sell himself as a logical opponent for hatton which he's not. i wish he'd stick to promoting and go away
The point is Chris didn't do well coming down in weight.
Chris Byrd went from 212 pounds to 174 pounds. That is rediculous my friends. That is close to 40 lbs. With Oscar you are talking about going from 154 to 147 then to 140. Much different if it is done gradually. I think oscar will stay at 147 and fight hatton next anyway if he wins. That fight an happen at 147 or 140 maybe a catch weight of like 143 or soemthing who knows but it will happen if Oscar can beat Manny...Lefty
No way he fights at 140. 145 tops, a catchweight with Hatton so the haters of that fight won't scream about the Hitman's less-than-stellar (read: embarrassing) performances at 147.
I am pessimistic about how DLH will do at his lowest weight in seven years, so I don't think going any lower is a good idea. This is just more PR hype for the fight so the size difference is minimized.
