Here's a clip of 93 Roy at his best. He would be able to match Joe's energy because Roy at the time had great energy also. I think Joe keeps it competetive though.

Calzaghe in 2001
Prime Jones against Calzaghe would of been one of the greatest fights of all time.
Although it's difficult to judge when Calzaghe's 'prime' was as he has improved with age but at the same time is he quicker than when he was like say 23?
imo he looked better against roy than he did in that video....

i dont think Joe was ever that fast TBH anyone can look fast when they dont extend their elbows when they flurry, you try extending your elbows when you punch and see how much harder it is to be as fast

In 93 wtf he wasn't even a super middleweight from what i recall.
Imo, Calzaghe would always give him a tough fight. If Bernard Hopkins could give Roy problems in his prime then sure as hell Calzaghe can.
prime Jones has too much hand speed for Calzaghe and Calzaghe is too open i see Jones winning by decision Calzaghe would get hit to easy
people forget how quick Jones was back then check out the counter 1 2 he hits Reggie Johnson with in this vid
2.30 sec
Yeah, that 1-2 Jones landed on Reggie was incredible.

I thinks its fairly evident that Joe would of dismanteld Roy Jones at any stage of his career from the pummeling he took a few weeks ago.
Roy was a great fighter but Joe was even greater, it would be a hard fight but Joe would definetly pull through
The man is undefeated, to compare Roy to Joe would be like comparing your mom's cooking with KFC. KFC would win everytime
get off the ****in crack, PRIME Roy was damn near unbeatable, in his prime he hardly lost rounds, what do you think Roy wouldve done with Joe if Joe was trying to pressure him for 12 rounds, Id say 10-2 or a knock out for Roy
and dont compare Joes speed with Roys, Roy's is real punches, no pitty pat paddy cake shit mixed with a hard punch or 2..
Prime Roy was too fast, too much power, too quick for any version of Joe
post a vid of prime calzaghe plz
Calzaghe vs Lacy is Joe's prime, IMO.

SUPERB point, well made. I could post Calzaghe up here knocking people out in the first or second round. When its ROY we are supposed to be amazed at his fabulous skills against NOBODIES, but when JOE fights NOBODIES they are not counted.
Calzaghe getting knocked out by Roy Jones seems to be the common thread but EVERYONE seems to ignore the fact that Joes chin is one of the very best ever seen, and certainly better that Roys. If Roy had fought Joe when he had the chance, or Taylor or Hopkins for that matter, we would know for sure, but they dodged him, it wasnt the other way around.
remember that the top americans wouldnt fight calzaghe either in Wales or America and waited for him to get to the end of HIS career it seems.
whos been dodging who?
Remember that pre-hand problems, Joe was knocking everyone out, just like,,,,urmmm RJJ.
Not at all, find me a fight where Joe destroys quickly an opponent of Griffin or Hill caliber.
Jones UD.
At his peak Roy was still respectful of elite fighters (see Hopkins and Toney fights, where he held back in a way we didnt see until later on at 175) and recognizing Joe as such he would not risk it by pushing his aggression too far. A late stoppage is not out of the question, but I would not put my money on that.

Hahahhahahahhahah
Jones UD
Not sure I've seen Calzaghe fight somebody who matched his workrate, prime Jones would swarm all over him.
This debate will go on indefinitely..without a clear plausible answer... Too bad we happen to encounter these scenarios too many times in this sport
92-94 RJJ went 10 rounds with the mighty Jorge Fernando Castro, 8 rounds with the awesome Glenn Thomas, 6 rounds with the phenomenal Thulani Malinga, 10 with the superhuman Fermin Chirino (who both Steve Collins and Nigel Benn had knocked out well inside the distance) and 6 with the myth, the legend that is Danny Garcia.
Are we to believe that he would beat Calzaghe faster than he beat all of these guys?
Have a word.

really?, damn, i mean if he can break ribs with one punch without working the body or nothin, that's gotta be pretty impressive right?
but yea man, im not saying he'd win by ko, but im sure calzaghe would atleast stumble or fall a couple of times
Prime Jones had it all....including a glass jaw. A glass jaw that he brilliantly protected until it was exposed by a vastly overrated Antonio Tarver. One little zipper causes the chicken dance. It's a fair debate as to whether Calzaghe was talented enough to land his shots.
