i hear people arguing that pacquiao is way out of his class because of the weight (147) he is fighting at...someone with boxing experience or knowledge please explain to me how will he look any different (speed/power) than his last fight which was at 135 but Manny weighed in at 147 on fight night...

He weighed 147 on fight night, but how much did de la Hoya weigh on fight night last time? 160+?
There is no fighter who weighs in at the weight he weighed in at the day before. Everyone is counting their calories and shoveling salad to get to smaller divisions.
I think the more appropriate way of phrasing it would be yes, he will look just as sharp and fast as he did against diaz but he will still be at a major disadvantage cuz of the height, weight and reach difference

Pacquiao is fighting a very experienced, future hall of famer who has taken on many greats in his time and been competitive (even in his losses...with the exception of Hopkins).
Pacquiao is fighting a boxer puncher, counterpunches effectively and has power to boot.
Pacquiao and De la Hoya will weigh in at 147 at the scales (and Pacquiao did well at 147 against Diaz), but two problems:
1-) Pacquiao was 147 AFTER rehydrating...with DLH, Pacquiao is starting off at 147 and then has to rehydrate and probably stack up more pounds. I doubt he'll rehydrate as much as De la Hoya. It's not only the fact that his opponent will be rehydrating comfortably, it's that Pacquiao will most likely not rehydrate so much because he's getting further and further from his "normal" weight class.
2-) De la Hoya is not Díaz. Period.
So what do we have? De la Hoya with a reach advantage, comfortable at the weight class, rehydrates easily to 154-160, while Pacquiao has to move UP two weight classes. De la Hoya more experienced, better opposition, bigger arsenal of technique, never been knocked out (with the exception of Hopkins). The ones who beat De la Hoya have to be in the fight for all 12 rounds: Mosley (twice), Trinidad (controversial) and Mayweather (near draw).
How is Pacquiao, someone who is moving up two weight classes, fights coming forward, and gets drawn into exchanges whenever he gets tagged with a hard combination (loves to retaliate) gonna' win against a fighter who is more comfortable at the weight class, seldom stopped, and is always competitive? Pacquiao has to pull one out of the bag to win this fight.
I hadn't thought about it until I started writing this out of the blue just now, but I'm only reaffirming myself that De la Hoya's got this.
BTW, I WANT Pacquiao to win, but I'm torn on it. If he wins, it means my prediction came wrong, but on the other hand, if DLH wins, prediction takes place yet I will sigh disappointingly.
De la Hoya TKO 8
I made my prediction in a thread by some poster stating that there would be massive giveaway points for the closest prediction.
BTW, feel free to bump this thread if Pacquiao wins, you guys can flame me if you want.
Another angle. Pac has been dropped, hurt and stopped by fighters who punch far softer then Oscar is going to do. Pac has never been hit as hard as Oscar will hit him. And he will connect alot because he can control the pace with his jab and drop some heavy shots behind it. Also, Manny isnt used to reaching for his opponant like he will have to with Oscar. Pictures of Manny from training against a guy Oscars size show how WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE open Manny is to get hit with the left hook, which will end the fight. The other point is that Oscar has been hit by guys much bigger, and much stronger then Pac is. And he took those punches well. Manny wont be able to outbox Oscar, and if he comes rushing in he will have to go toe to toe with a man who can fight good inside and who can take his punch and give a much harder punch. Im telling you right now, (unless Oscar rigged it to lead up to a Pac vs Mayweather fight) that this fight will onbly go on as long as Oscar allows it to. I think it could end very early, but he may carry him a few rounds to make it look like a real fight. Manny CANT WIN. 100% he cant. Unless it is rigged, Manny wont see the end of the fight.
why do yall make such big deals about size.....
the little man kan beat the big man....
rahman over lewis
tyson over berbick,pinklon,bruno etc etc
marquez over casamayor
floyd over chico
brewster over klitschko
bernard over tarver
barrett over tye fields LOL
quintana over williams
David over Goliath. lol
But if Margarito got the fight, the Margarito fans wouldn't be scared for him. As Pac fans and his country men are afraid for Pacs life.
Margarito picked pacman to win smartass :pat:
but thats the main argument i see coming...
so theoritically he should look as sharp and fast
as he did against david diaz...
Theoretically you are assuming he walks into the ring at 147lb. That is very unlikely. He is training to bulk up. he will probably walk into the ring in the mid 150's
oscar fought as high as 160 lbs... manny started at 106 lbs... oscar has KTFO guys that outweigh him... pac is very hittable... you do the math.
yea this was what i was gonna say that is what people's problem with this fight which is understandable. i have been one of the few to pick pacquiao to win but like i have said various times Pac is gonna have to fight a perfect fight to win. obviously i think he can do it but its way easier said than done...
As I said in another thread, just because he comes in at 147 on fight night doesn't mean he belongs there in today's world of boxing, it's like saying DLH is effective at middleweight because he goes into fights at 160.
I even remember Bernard coming in so light during fight night against Oscar just so he can squeeze in a little more speed against the bloated welter. Even though I thought that was a bit of an overkill on Nard's part, I think Oscar should go the same route as his business partner on Dec. 6 because quickness, speed and stamina are really the only factors that would keep Manny in this fight.
i think this why the drag queen is walking around at 145, he's gonna be hopkins this time against a bloated SFW. gatti used to weigh 160 on fight night when he fought at 140, i don't think that makes him a middleweight.
This is what makes this fight so intriguing for me. I'm a Pac fan and I didn't want it... but what if...? You know? It's a no-lose situation for Pac unless he ends up eating from a tube, but what if we've all been shortchanging him and this supposed mismatch? Yeah let's wait and see.
your 100% right its a no loose situation for manny no matter what . . . if he looses its not too bad cause then it was a mismatch and if anything at all it did was show a lot courage on his part. if he wins he will have truely done something special.
and dlh its a loose loose, if he wins big woop he beat up a little guy. if he looses well his seeming calculated risk may be the biggest boxing blunder ever.
imo the only reason this fight is even interesting is how well/bad does many do . . . and the fact that its p4p vs. arguably the biggest name in boxing.
you can hope and wish if you want too . . . i dont see manny having the size and power to pressure him and make him loose his steam in this one. but i guess we'll have to just wait and see.

Slower and he'll have worse STAMINA issues after say... round 4 this time?

i agree 100%

Pac asked for this fight, his fans asked for this fight and now they got to shut up and stop making excues for Pac. He got what he wanted and now his country is scared for his life, philipine boxing journalist should have let this fight go when Oscar laughed at the idea of fighting Pac, but Pac and his fans keep pressing Delahoya.
Blame Freddie Roach...he's the 1 that wanted the fight for Manny, I sure as hell didn't... I wanted him to dominate lightweight.
