Some serious UNDEFEATED Prospects/Contenders in the Jr. Middle division that will collide next year...
All are ranked TOP 20 by the WBC
But who do you see rising to the top and seperating themselves from the group... please discuss... :boxing:
Alfredo Angulo
James Kirkland
Vanes Martirosyan
Julio Caesar Chavez Jr.
John Duddy
Mean Joe Greene
Yuri Foreman
No one stands out and there all vunerable, it can be really anybodies division. This divison will be very action packed as long as everybody fights everybody.
That's the biggest question
... Lets hope they don't fight each other when they are all exposed or beaten.
Its funny that Phillips manages to hold a title at 38 years old, being a 10 loss fighter. I dont mean to count him out completely, but I agree several of these young dudes, Angulo, Martirosyan, Kirkland, Greene and probably even a guy like Duddy would have a decent shot of beating him at this point.
Its moot though, seeing as Williams will take that belt from him later this month.
Vernon Forrest
Sergio Martinez
Sergei Dzinziruk
Daniel Santos
And probably Paul Willaims
All holding titles early next year. So its not going to be exactly easy for any of these young characters to pick up a strap, they are gonna have to beat somebody tough to do.
thats a great post...
as good as this new school of prospects are... there are some seasoned Champs at 154 who won't give up their belts all that easily.
Who the hell are the champs at 154? They could beat Verno Philips cuz he's a sham and got a gift against Spinks, but none of them aint beating Vernon Forrest

JJC has WAAAAAAAAAAAAY more experience, Kirkland is a nice prospect and could very well beat JJC but he has done shit all. So he blew out Eromosele Albert in one round, what has he done besides that? Gotten rocked by Allen Conyers, looked unimpressive against Angulo's leftovers in Ricardo Cortes, got stunned two or three times times against Mohammad Said and got hurt and won a close UD over Ossie Duran. People have Kirkland WAAAAAAAAAAY too high up on their lists.
Wins over Vanda (x2), and KO's over Wiley, Loriga, Celaya and Sanchez are more impressive than anything I have seen from Kirkland. People rate him so highly because it is a knee jerk reaction they get when they see this guy who fights like a beast and comes straight forward.
I would pick Kirkland to beat JJC JR btw, but what has he done to be ranked above him? I love watching Kirkland fight, extremely exciting, and has TONS of power no doubt, but Chavez has more wins, more fights and more star power=higher ranking.
I guess I can see the experience from JR, but Kirk should still be ranked b4 him...
Thank you very much
It is a shame there are not more Armenian fights, it is no surprise that the ones that there are are top contenders or champions.
ya i guess we just naturally have a bit of fight in us huh ;)
our history has been tough, and so we have always had to fight for survival.
that sounds about right brother...
hope to meet you one day at one of Vanes' fights, you seem like a great guy with serious knowledge of boxing.
Thank you very much

The Baldomir of '06 handles Vanes easily and possibly by a late stoppage as well, not because he is a big puncher, but because he wears you down.
But it is now Vanes' day and no longer Carlos'. Vanes would win a comprehensive but exciting decision where both men have their moments but Vanes takes control of a good fight to win by 97-93,97-93, and 98-92. Or something around there. I like Vanes a lot and I would love to see him win a title one day.

how do you see Vanes goin up against Baldomir sometime late next year??
i think he needs somethin like this in the near future, dont you think?

LOL I was kidding with you
Quitting... well now, that man in your avatar....
ay ay ayyy... i never saw that comin from him man, that was a sad sad day for me.
Cotto always held that MANS MAN image.. it hurt seein him get destroyed that way.
In the past I would have said that Baldomir would beat Vanes, but as terrible as Baldo has looked in his last fights and since he doesnt really have knockout power, I think Vanes would outbox him and finally punch his ticket from prospect to contender.
I like how you worded that ending... :)
They'll all have to be wary of Santos and the guy that beat Santos a few years ago who also has a title at 154. The weakest Champion right now is Vernon Forest -imo age has caught up to him.
Are you nuts??? Vernon Forrest is the best champ at 154, when he's on, not many in any division can beat him and he proved that in the Mora rematch when he pounded him out. Verno Philips got a complete gift against Spinks and shouldnt be champ. Daniel Santos is vastly underrated tho and its interesting to see how 154 plays out especially with Carlos Quintana arriving

Thats disgusting that people think that could happen. If Angulo wants to get a brain injury he should take that fight. Sure, he looked like an elite fighter against Tsurkan, and he may very well become one, but not yet, not after 14 fights. Mayorga just last month gave Shane Mosley all sorts of problems.

People actually think that he would ko Mayorga, like get real, Angulo aint no Mosley/De La Hoya

JJC JR ranked b4 Kirk??? :nono:
