Just to take a break from the endless Joe-Roy threads, I thought I would start this one.
I just read a thread where ppl where throwing around shit like "Oscar lost all his big fights" and all that crap. What a joke. I understand some ppl hate him now because he has let the business side take over, but you have to at least acknowledge how great this man has been. He is a true legend and an all time great. He is another of the fighter's I have grown up watching and I cannot believe the attitudes of some of the "boxing fans" on here towards his career achievements. Dislike him as a person, sure, but to say he has had anything short of a fantastic career? How ridiculous is that?
Wins over Quartey, Vargas, Mayorga, JCC, Leija, Whitaker, Carr, Gatti, Sturm, should have gotten the wins against Mosley in their second fight and Tito. On top of this he fights to a SD loss against the p4p number 1 guy in the sport despite being past his best.
Oscar is an ATG ppl, stop with the fkn hating.
Sturm - obviously Oscar lost this fight. Having said that he most probably deserved the decisions against Mosley in their second fight and Tito.
Whitaker - I thought this fight was close but I just gave it to Oscar, and I am a massive Pea nuthugger.
Quartey - I definately feel Oscar won this fight with his unbelievable performance in the last round.
What 6 rounds did he win against Quartey? Being generous to him, he won 3 of the first 5 rounds. Round 6 was a pretty clear Quartey round when both guys went down, because Ike controlled the round after the KD. Oscar did fukk-all in rounds 7 thru 9. Oscar has to win the last 3 rounds to win the fight, and that's being generous to him by giving him round 11 and having him ahead 3-2 after 5.
That wasn't even a hard fight to score.
I had little problem with the Whitaker decision, only the margin he won by. It was close, not a 9-3 fight like the judges had it.
DLH won narrowly against Trinidad IMO and lost to Sturm. He also won narrowly on my card against Balco Mosley in the rematch. Even if I scored it for Shane I wouldn't give Shane credit or really take anything against DLH, unless DLH was cheating just like Shane was.

To say he is one of the most overrated fighters ever is ridiculous dude. With a resume like that and accomplishments like he has there is no way that can be the case. He is an ATG fighter, one of the best of the past 2 decades.

just look at the resume. the contraversial decisions. and who he fought and when. dont leave much
he most definetly did nto beat sturm. and neither did he beat whitaker. Quartay fight was close. could of went either way I guess. But I edge quartay.

My favorite De La Hoya victory:
I second that. Personally I loved seeing Oscar literally force feed Fernando his own words in the 11th. Cocky asshole deserved it. Completely disrespectful, and tasteless the shit Fernando was saying about Oscar.
"I'm the real Mexican! You ain't no Mexican! You're a whitey!"
Fast forward after the fight and you know Vargas was kicking himself in the ass for that crap.
Oscar, once a great fighter, now a good businessman and a coward
Cotto, once an average fighter, now a good sparring partner and a quitter.

calzaghe tried to sell a fight with a shot roy jones as a fair fight. pumping all this money into 24/7 and the promos and tv spots, just so he can beat down a shot guy to "prove" he was a great fighter. SORRY NO. at least oscar was good at one time where as calzaghe never was and is pretending he is.
Oscar shits all over Joe, but that's beside the point man. :lol1:
He still beat good fighters early in his career. Beating Sweet Pea at that time is still a great win.
All time great left hook, awesome hand speed, excellent chin.
Exactly. Not sure Oscar gets as much credit as he deserves for this win. Pea was not totally shot by any means and still presented a very tough challenge.

You are the most bitter poster I've ever seen. God Damn. Last night must of been hard for you man.

Once upon a time Oscar De La Hoya was one of the best fighters out there.
He has a record that speaks for itself.
But I do take the piss with him in terms of fighting Pacquiao and trying to sell it as a fair fight. Pumping all this money into 24/7, and the promos and tv spots, just so he can beat down a natural 130lbs guy to "avenge" Barrera and Morales. Gay soap operas aren't as gay as this crap.

I like the prime oscar a lot, why would i hate him now. lol. His prolly my #3 ATG at the moment behind leonard and pacquiao. I don't care how much he earns or whatever the so called hardcore boxing fans think of him negatively. I just wanna see him fight. Though I like pacman to win. :D. Lets get it on. :boxing:
**** DLH. I always respected him before and was a fan of his in the past but the whole Pac thing has really turned me against him. After he retires I wouldn't mind givin him his due cuz he's done a lot in boxing, but right now I can't stand the guy anymore.
