So what do you guys think about this match up coming up this weekend? Does Augustus really have a chance against Figueroa?? I'm intrigued by how they have him as a 5-1 underdog, I dont know much about this Figueroa kid? Anyone have good info on him?
I think Emanuel is training hard for this fight and he knows the road is ending. I also heard it may be rumors but Mayweather sr. was training him.
roger is training him
basically like a flashy version of cotto with a sweet pea style defense
he will beat augustus cuz augustus play around alot, and the judges dont like that... gato will be racking up points while augustus is dancin around
Gato is a tough SOB, I've been to a lot of his fights live and he always comes to fight. His main problem is that he doesn't use his jab and usually just comes straight in from a distance and leaves a gap. Against Rodriguez I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed even though he beat the living crap out of the guy. He h
Still, Gato is a puncher and we don't know how much Augustus has left. Gato is always in shape and has been training for this fight for awhile. I'd favor Gato but Augustus is not an easy fight by any means.
in mosleys interview... gato's power is the main thing he was impressed wit.. he kept saying how strong he is, and how he should become world champion because of his power
I guess he felt it pretty good in the sparring
Surely he didnt want to say he had better technique...anyway yes, from the little i saw he looks like he throws with bad intentions. I believe hes on the rise, and Roy's square ring signing him prolly means he saw something good in this guy. Hes the safe bet on this one. Upset not impossible tho.
If his head is in there to win, Augustus could come off with the shock win. I hope he does, but Figueroa is pretty skilled and will probably win through a unanimous decision.

I am tempted as well on betting on Augustus, hes a rugged fighter, he has great experience...in the past he was praised from both Mayweather and Toney for his abilities. Mayweather says he gave him one of his toughest fight ever. Hes a very good boxer...hes also a bit old and working mainly as a sparring partner he might been catching too many punches lately. Gato figueroa is a young fighter, he believes in himself, his style is that of a puncher that partially goes into the boxer-counter, but can explode and pressure. Hes very wild with his punches, and has never been tested really against solid opposition. You can see on youtube theres plenty of fights from Augustus to see, as well as some sparring and rounds to check el Gato out. In my opinion both have a good chance, Figueroa goes wild and sometimes looks a bit like Mayorga...i really dont know if he has real power tho...but hes a very hungry fighter. A talented crafty boxer like Augustus should win on paper...but i really dont know how much he will want it, he is a bit unpredictable, sometines he showed great heart, sometimes dominated his opponents while displaying an umbeliveable 'drunken style' of boxing (imagine prince naz, roy jones and jet lee all in one) and other times that he looked like he didnt want to fight. He is trained now by Roger Mayweather and looks motivated. Id put a fiver on him but dont come to me if he loses!!!
Yeah but he was just added to the card recently, do to gato's opponant injuring his hand... so he's taking this fight on short notice, while gato's been training hard the whole time
But about that, Augustus had been training with R. Mayweather for the past 2 months incase a fight came up.
Yeah true, I want to see emmanuel get a shot too... but just not by winning saturday... Ive been coo wit franky since like his 2nd fight in.. and to see him come this far, is amazing... he gets my support 100%
no doubt, Figueroa is a good fighter and I like him too, but there would be no shame to losing to Augustus, who is crafty and slick as hell and has been in with the best. If Augustus loses, it means alot at this point, and he'll probably retire, Figueroa can rebuild and still become a world class contender.

Probably exactly what will happen in this fight, but it would be awesome to see Augustus score a stoppage or win a decision. I want to see Emmanuel get a title shot before he retires.
