He told Boxing News: "I just wasn't up for the Hopkins fight, I can't really explain it. That's why I walked into that shot of his in the first round and went down.

“If I beat Jones, I might move back down to super middleweight to face Kelly Pavlik. I still feel young," Calzaghe told Ron Lewis. "It all depends on how I perform against Jones. There's a good possibility I may fight on. I need fights that motivate me. Kessler motivated me, Hopkins motivated me, Jones motivates me. And Kelly Pavlik has been hanging around.”
I just thought this was funny...it's not meant to be a hate thread.
He always said it was a bad performance, and it was. He said he under rated Hopkins, largely due to his age, he and everyone has been surprised by Hops.
He got tagged early when he shouldn't have, and took a while to adapt. Surely it's more respectable a guy accepts that rather than say nah it was a schooling or something, like Hopkins said.
Dude was sayin before the fight he'd beat the shit outta Hopkins and all that. Just anotha example of a fighter gettin loud then not delivering the goods.
Wasn't up????
That was the best performance of his career lol. If anybody "wasn't up" it was Hopkins.
W/e, he'll get that lesson taught to him next saturday, when he gets knocked out
The fact that Joe was only worried about the right-hand tells you Hopkins is not the fighter he once was. He can't even fighter dirty anymore. Although he does act like a baby now...weird.
And if Joe wants to know why he walked into that shot from Hopkins, it's because he leaves himself open for someone like Hopkins who can time you.
I said it before and I'll say it again, since the start of his career he should have just let his fists do the talking. Oh yeah, "AT THE END OF THE DAY."
