yes..... quite easily too imo. cotto, though a victim to margarito, is a tougher matchup for floyd imo, as is Shane Mosley. Margarito will not find floyd...
Did you already count yourself?
Although this thread is not a stupid thread as the started supposed, you can have a good discussion here and there are many arguments from both sides. Its a shame what that first post says
Its not a shame at all. This is a stupid, stupid thread, and has been discussed nearly a million times in other topics of basically the exact same name. Most arguments on this board are stupid anyway, because no body has any interest in listening, just in arguing back. So shove it, buddy.
There are roughly 65 idiots in this thread.

This is the same reason he lost the fight to Marg. He can't fight like that. He lets himself get trapped on the ropes and is happy to stay there. HE doesn't spin or clinch to get off them and if he were to do that with Marg again he would lose even quicker in a rematch. That is a bad way to fight a powerful pressure fighter if you're going to box him.
He should use his jab much, much more and use a shitload less foot movement because a lot of it is pointless foot movement. He should only be moving just enough to get out of the way. One step to the side and counter or one step to the side, counter then spin out or clinch and get back to the center of the ring.
If he does get the rematch soon and fights like that again, it will probably be over by about the ninth or tenth rounds. If he can learn to fight more conservatively without worrying about power or trying to KO Marg and just throws with speed, then he can conserve his energy better. If he also uses more small lateral movement, just enough to make Marg get set again before punching then he can get off his counters and tie Marg up.
Probably the biggest thing though, is he needs to stay off the ropes. Marg works best against someone who is on the ropes and Cotto gets tagged on the ropes. He needs to fight in the center of the ring and just use small side steps to confuse Marg and get him off balance. All the leg work he put in in the first fight completely drained him of energy and most of it didn't actually have any purpose. Either way, that video was not a good way to fight a power punching pressure fighter.
Margarito stops Mayweather...
People keep comparing Margarito to Baldomir. Baldomir would not have beaten Cotto. Baldomir is 5'7" and couldnt hit his way out of a paper bag. he had only 13 KO's on his record. Margarito is 5'11". He hits with power. Not necessary 1 punch, but enough to be a difference maker in a fight.
The fight would look very much like the Cotto fight where a big guy stalks a smaller guy. the smaller guy looks great landing all those NOTICEABLE shots on Tony's face. What goes under the radar will be the sneaky body shots that eventually wear Mayweather down causing him to get hung up on the ropes in around the 7th when tony really starts opening up because Mayweather will move alot less after being softened up by body shots. Tony starts to move upstairs because mayweather isnt ducking too many shots in the 9th becuase his body hurts. Its over around the 9th or 10th when tony stuns Mayweather and throws about 25 -30 unanswered shots. Ref stops it because Mayweather is out on his feet and taking shots to the head.
If it was such a winnable fight for Mayweather, it would have been made. Mayweather at WW has not taken any risks. Fighting Margarito, Cotto, Williams or Clottey would have been a huge risk. Instead of fighting one of those guys, he retired... He'll come back when all those guys move up to 54 and leave the division to guys like Berto or Collazzo...
why are people acting like if Margarito connected he would KO Floyd?
Floyd's chin is much better than Cotto's, and Cotto resisted Margarito for the majority of the fight, while taking a lot more punishment than Floyd would also
...some people are lost
your lying to yourself if you think floyd has a MUCH better chin than cotto but that's besides the point. floyds, the guy that cried on ellerbes shoulders and managed to make himself look like a bitch, is already a beaten man cause its a mental thing. he fears a repeat of history. roger may vs chavez
margarito's BEST CHANCES are:
A) a punchers chance
and
B) to outwork him
However if mayweather begins to control the pace and slow margarito down he has virtually no chance...
mayweather didnt have such a long reign as p4p champ for no reason...
i would expect mayweather to treat margarito similary to how he treated hatton...
take advantage of those wide/looping punches and high work rate...smother his punches...tie him up on the inside...use his technical ability to avoid the other's punches and give his own...
i dont really care how margarito tries to engage mayweather we all know its not happening...many have thought the key to beat mayweather is a high energy offense...but we've seen against guys like ricky hatton that tactics like that wont be the answer...
to beat mayweather (in my opinion) you need a few tools...
A) Work the body...
you HAVE TO slow mayweather down...mayweather is too slick/fast for majority of the welterweights today...working the body will slow him down and allow you to build on your attack...
B) effective agressiveness...
you cant pull a ricky hatton and attempt to outmuscle him and swing like a wildman...you have to take a page out of the castillo or de la hoya book when they fought mayweather...
C) dont try to "outthink" floyd...
it just doesnt happen...we seen oscar attempt to out-think mayweather and while he was standing there completely still trying to anticipate the next series of exchanges mayweather would land a quick 1-2 combo and move out of de la hoya's range...you cant be stupid but you also cant attempt to have the thought on the front of your mind (because it distracts you from the fight) as to how you're going to anticipate what floyd is going to do...because with floyd if you expect a jab he's going to pump out a lead right...if you're looking for the lead right he's going to bust you up with the lead left hook.
D) you MUST MUST MUST posses decent defense and boxing ability...
i dont have the confidence in margarito to do these things against floyd...because margarito looks exactly the same in every fight...which is:
no backwards steps...1200+ punches around...swinging wildly...not coming inside or outside with the use of a jab...
too predictable for someone so smart as floyd...he would exploit margarito's flaws on the way to a decision win.
mayweather 12 round decision win.

Read That Post. It Is The First One In This Thread.
watching Too Much Hbo I See, According To Them Cotto Was The Second Coming Of Tito :d His Only Good Accomplishment Was Barely Defeating Mosley In Rican Territory With A Rican Referee
and Margarito Reign Will Be At Least One Year Long because Cotto Got Beat Up So Bad He Needs An Easy Fight To Regain His Confidence
I Rest My Case!
While this is a funny thread and its clear that most people didn't read D's post, this brings to mind,
Who would win a 15 round fight? Marg or Mayweather?
Is not hating! I recognize Floyd's quality, but he has been avoided Margo and Cotto before he retired, and now that it was almost unavoidable a fight with any of them, he retired. The loses argument and the money are not valid also, you can not judge a boxer by his loses, but by his performance, and a fight right now can generate big bucks $$$
im a Mayweather/Cotto fan but i know for a fact Cotto & margo. cant handle Floyd's skill & speed, those fights dont motivate him...but if Cotto beat margo. im pretty sure he would of fought Cotto cuz he knows he can beat him & cash-in. so right now he wont get big buck cuz of margo., he'll get sum bucks jus not big bucks. what i would like to see is Floyd/Wright @ 154.
u would be saying that about cotto if he didnt ended up quitting against the first real challenge he faced
he was already p4p and highly regarded.and he didn't quit his corner stop the fight.
let us wait the rematch...it will be more enjoyable from my part.
"Margarito's reign will be as short as eating one single M'N'M"
-NAPO-
wrong buddy, the reason he wont fight him is cuz he has 6 loses vs. no loses for Floyd, Floyd's skill is way out of margo's lack lustered skill & he brings no money to the table. stop HATING! get da facts straight please.

Mayweather Jr. is one of those gifted fighters ! Margarito throws in bunches but I think he would land cleanly to beat him ! Mayweather Jr. has a great defense and he would pot shot him ! Mayweather by SD ! With people questioning who really won the fight ! Thats my opinion ! But who knows someone would've gave him his first loss ! Not sure if that's Margarito ?
