we all know Roys a great body puncher and has hurt and stopped a few fighters with those shots, do yall think he can slow Joe down with those body shots or possibly even stop him with one???
I hope Calzaghe stops Roy, shame on him for now taking on the best, he was afraid to lose before now he don't give a ****. I"ve heard about him having money problems but i don't think its true. I'd like to see Calzghe ko Roy and stop the Roy hype that to his credit the bangwagoneers have climbed on once again.
Something everybody might want to consider....Calzaghe's stated that this is his last fight, period. If that's true, and I have no reason to believe otherwise, then he'll be leaving everything in the ring when the fight's done. And whether all of you guys believe this or not, Calzaghe can bang when he chooses to, he's just been cautious the last several years because of his fragile hands. If he decides not to worry about his hands anymore, he might decide to start throwing bombs again, which will cause any body shots thrown by Roy to get real expensive, real quick. You can't throw hooks to the body against a guy with Calzaghe's handspeed without a very big risk of getting caught with a counter.
Roy will get caught in this fight...what happens when he does all depends on which Calzaghe shows up. If it's the one from years ago, that knocked out all his early opponents within a couple of rounds, there could be trouble for Roy.
I actually expect Jones to lay back and mostly throw counter right/left hook combinations, and not even throw that many jabs. The action will be sporadic after the 4th, with Roy showing moments of brilliance, but not enough to take the decision. I honestly don't believe he'll throw that many body punches at all, and I think he'll land the left hook more than anything else.
....That is a given
No, it isn't. Jones' main body punch against a southpaw is a right hook, I don't think he'd be able to get to Calzaghe with that in close because Jones throws that shot from a distance.
Calzaghe is very effective at not getting hit to the body because of his footwork and the angles he gives, his high workrate also keeps his opponents on the defensive so that even if they punch, they'll punch to the head because punching the body means dropping your hands and that could lead to a fighter getting hit by 4 of Calzaghe's shots to 1 body shot but if Jones can get to the body early and effectively, sure he'll slow Calzaghe down, body shots slow everyone down.
....That is a given
Will Calzaghe's windmill (more like propeller) slaps slow Jones down? Going to the body early is always a good strategy but Roy should also focus on not allowing Joe to outwork/outpoint him with those slaps like Bernard did and that's always a tall order for anyone way past their physical prime, particularly for fighters with styles that rely on twitch reflexes.
It could but Jones would have to get his respect with that speed early, a fighter needs to get Calzaghe's respect to get him cautious.
I dont think Jones will have a problem with that.....
I think his speed will be key!
Agree, but I think Jones speed will cause Joe to think before "punching" which will slow him down. The body shots will hurt though......a body shot followed by a tripple left hook.
It'll be ET style "OOOOOUUUUUUCCCCCHHHHHHH"
