I came across this list on another site.
http://boxingpredictionleague.com/wordpress/?p=123
It's sort of a pound for pound Heavyweight list of all-time, consisting of putting any Heavyweight against another to see who will come out on top.
I disagree with much of the list and order the boxers are in.
There are some suprises i assure you. What are your thoughts on this? Care to make a list of your own?
It was a shot Bowe, that had already been in his wars with Holfyield and over training was also a factor. I really can't see the version of Bowe that beat Evander in their first fight being beat him by any version of Golota.
Bowe wasn't shot until Golota pulled the trigger. Golota's superior jab, power, and workrate would have always troubled the defensively challenged Bowe; advantages Evander didn't have to exploit. Holyfield is an overall superior fighter but Golota was a tougher match up for Bowe. This is why Bowe avoided fighters like Lewis like the plague as well.
Bowe had two chances against Golota, and had training excuses both times. Pathetic. Did Ali, Holmes, Marciano, and Louis get ****ed up by tough but subpar fighters during their peak years because they couldn't properly train twice regardless of how many wars they had been in? No. Bowe wasn't shot he was just lazy as he was his entire career at the top save his single impressive win over a prime Holyfield. After that his resume gets pretty thin and the Golota beat downs are the icing on the cake.
Heavyweight top ten
1. Ali
2. Lennox Lewis
3. Joe Louis
4. George Foreman
5. Joe Frazier
6. Jack Johnson
7. Archie Moore
8. Evander Holyfield
9. Larry Holmes
10. Mike Tyson
Gee, not even a token white guy? And LOL at Archie Moore over Holyfield, Holmes, or even Tyson.
I give big props to ARCHIE MOORE also but I don't see how he could be rated over Marciano and Patterson at heavyweight. Maybe if it was a p4p list.
I must not have made it past Lennox being ranked ahead of Lewis because I never even saw that. Just the same, I agree with you about Moore.

Ali, Louis, Holmes, and Marciano had some of strange magic aura where they could always come out on top most of the time no matter what happened. I think they would ultimately emerge from the pack and against each other who knows, anything could happen.
Liston realistically could probably take anyone though. I''ll agree to that.
Bowe was tough and skilled but he was also one lazy bastard. I don't think a guy that got beat down by Golota at any stage of their career should be considered in something like this.

On topic, i know its all fun but that list was just all horrible. Klitschko in front of Foreman, Lewis, Tyson or Louis? Liston was Holmes were too far back, ESPECIALLY Holmes. With the exception of Ali, i would have favored Holmes over everyone on that list. He should have been put at number 2. I also didn't see Marciano on that list.
I give big props to Lennox Lewis. But rating him above Joe Louis.....are you on crack?

Ali is number 1. I think Lewis would be his hardest opponent with a prime Holmes up there too.
Foreman could dominate in any era, but wasn't smart enough to evade pure boxers. I see him losing to Holmes, but i'm undecided on Lewis.
Top 5 would be :
Ali
Lewis
Holmes
Foreman
Frazier
Older heavyweights such as Louis, Johnson and Dempsey etc... were too small and not skilled enough to compete with modern standards. Louis would struggle with any one from my top 5, Johnson had a great defense but relied a lot on clinching. Dempsey paved the way for the Fraziers and Tysons who used a similar bob/weave style but would be dominated on shear size and improved punching (accuracy etc..)
Marciano would not make a top 10.

Tough to make this list, pratically everyone would end up losing some and winning some, but IMO the ones to come up with the best results would be:
1. Lennox
2. Tyson
3. Ali
4. Foreman
5. Louis
6. Vitali
7. Bowe
8. Holmes
9. Marciano
10. Liston/Holyfield/Dempsey/Johnson

Take a punch better then Hagler?
I can't say who took a punch better since it can't be measured.
Ali took more punishment in his career than Hagler did though.
Aside from Hagler's fights with Mugabi and Hearns, two big punchers from lighter weight classes, he was usually able to block and avoid almost every punch thrown at him.
Liston
Foreman
Shavers
Frazier
What stood out the most to me was the difference in the size of the gloves. Check it out again and look at the little gloves Vitali has on compared to the ones Ali used. I know he is a big dude but there is a massive difference
what would happen if Ali got tagged with a Lewis thundering right with those little gloves?
Lights out I think
Ali was hit by Liston, Foreman, Frazier, Lyle, Norton and Shavers.
200 lb Mavrovic, McCall and Ray Mercer took Lewis' best shots and smiled back at him (well, in McCall's case, cried).
It could happen but I personally think it's unlikely. Ali could take a punch better than just about anyone I've ever seen in boxing.

If they all faced each other i think Ali or Lennox would end up on top, Foreman, Louis, Tyson or Holmes take the next few spots followed by guys like Marciano, Patterson, Liston (not to small just haven't seen enough to really judge him greatly), Dempsey who were too small to compete.
In my opinion Liston in his prime would do great in many head-to-head match-ups but some might disagree.
Patterson could always be KO'd but he was able to outbox Chuvalo and Bonavena who outweighed him by 20-30 lbs I think.
