I don't know anything about Mijares, but... I'm sure he will be mentioned a lot.
I'm not comfortable saying Pacquiao, because I can see trouble in Juan Diaz (this ridiculous Oscar bout does not count, win or lose, in this dicussion).
I think Calzaghe is a pretty safe bet at this point.
Although it seems like it's unfair, since there is no weight classes other than the one he is in to worry about, Wladimir Klitschko.
What do you all think?
Some fantastic gems here :lol1:
everybody should see cristian mijares in action, he is great, i see him boxing everyones ears off.
i guess oscar is a safe bet at 154
kelly pavlik at middleweight
guzman at 135 only marquez giving him a challenge
i have to disagree with klitschko, i see him getting KOed again somehow
Nonito Donaire beats anyone up to bantam
Juan Manuel Lopez can beat anyone up to feather
Pacman definitely can beat up anybody up til jr welter (Guzman can't even make weigh, much less beat him and Juan Diaz can't concentrate when cut... Pacman won't just cut him, he'll disfigure his face)
Pavlik beats anybody up to cruiser including Calzaghe and Kessler
lets be real here...
the klitschkos are an obvious choice
i dont see pac cleaning any divisions out, but i do see him going the rest of his career (pending when he chooses to retire) undefeated.
if pavlik can beat hopkins, he might can beat anyone.
i see jermain taylor beating everyone except pavlik
i also have a feeling paul williams just may be the real deal, if he can beat marg again and maybe cotto...
with the above said, i see cotto coming back strong and maybe becoming even more dominant than before.
i see berto losing when he gets in the ring with someone serious.
I agree, Mijares looks like the best complete Boxer Mexico has had since Sanchez...
I can't see many fighters at the moment that would fit into that category. There might be a few such as Mijares but I could still see him having a difficult fight against Donaire and one which could easily go either way.
Pac is definitely beatable at lightweight by quite a few fighters. Diaz, Campbell, Marquez, Guzman etc etc are all very hard fights that could go any which way. Above lightweight I would see him struggling against any of the top guys. I don't think he would have a chance against Bradley, Hatton etc. I think PAc has already that he is great by moving through the divisions he has though, so not doing well above lightweight isn't exactly surprising. Very few fighters have ever done well more then 20, 30, 40 pounds above their starting weight.
Calzaghe is one of the guys that could have beaten everyone around his weight class and has shown that with his recent wins. He is retiring very soon though so he doesn't really come into discussion too much here.
Funnily enough, apart from his recent stupidity, I see Guzman beating most fighters from his starting weight to where he is currently campaigning. I think most lightweights would have a very difficult time with him. He is one guy that could do it, but, what is in store for his future seems uncertain so we might not know what will happen for a while with him.
Pavlik has some hard challengers in and around his weight. Abraham could be a difficult fight though I see Pavlik beating him, but going up to SMW or even LHW and fighting the top guys in Kessler, Mundine, Dawson could be too much. I think we'll find out how well he can adjust after his fight with B-Hop. He should win it, but we'll shall get to see at least some difficulty posed by B-Hop which could tell us how he might fare against the younger prime guys in Kessler, Dawson etc.
The prospects coming through in the lower weights are quite promising and there are a few that could very well end up dominating their respective divisions in the future. That is still some time off before we know though, so not much point in commenting on it.
The WW division is impossible to say with any degree of accuracy. Such different fighters throughout it that the top guys could all beat each other with no one gaining any true ascendancy. If Clottey could get moving he is the one guy I could see beating most of the other top fighters. He has the skill to beat Cotto, Williams, Berto and Marg. Whether he will though is, of course, another matter completely. I do think he could though, whereas I see Marg struggling with Williams but maybe beating Cotto again. Berto, with some more experience, could beat Cotto and Cotto might even be able to beat Williams. It's a very difficult division to predict with any certainty. I would take Clottey over most guys at the moment though.
Kelly Pavlik at middleweight
Cristian Mijares at jr. bantam
Ivan Calderon at jr. flyweight (unbeatable as a strawweight)
Juanma Lopez at jr. feather
Ivan Calderon never seemed to lose in two weight divisions.
His fight wtih Ronald Barrera was pretty close. Yukita Niida had beat Barrera pretty soundly and Niida was just knocked out by Gonzalez.
This poor guy luis maldonado(who has a draw with mijares) faced darchinyan, montiel, donaire and was easily destroyed.. Im curious as to what would happen to mijares if he himself faced them...
No one has seen that fight. Mijares could have been robbed due to the bullshit judging he's had lately or he could have actually gotten a close fight with Maldonado. Either way, Mijares isn't the same fighter he was 4 years ago. He's a lot better.
Munoz would kick the shit out of Maldonado, hell even Navarro would.

Mijares i think will have a walk in the park against vic, and then the obvious choice should be Montiel, to unify the 4 belts. That should be a great fight but still thin Mijares should win it. And finally Donaire....wow....i just cant wait to that fights to happen xD.....

Mjares beat him in a rematch. Mijares was like 17 at the time too. Mijares has beaten way better competition since then (and donaire)
Mijares is the obvious pick here. Hozumi Hasegawa I don't see losing at Bantamweight.
Roman Gonzalez won't be losing anytime soon either.
I agree, Mijares looks like the best complete Boxer Mexico has had since Sanchez...
Mijares can't even win against a guy without ONE SINGLE WIN!:439:

Cotto at welther, even though he lost to Margarito(a fighter which I like), he has all the right tools if he fixes his stamina and boxing abilities of which he has already. Cotto vs Williams can be a fight where cotto can win by outboxing Pwill or destroying him with his hard shots. PWill's chin or body shots havent been tested yet...
Wladimir Klitschko at Heavyweight
Alexander Alexeev at Cruiserweight
Mikkel Kessler at 168 and 175
Juan Manuel Marquez at Lightweight
I saw Alexeev fight recently and he looks a hell of a prospect, at times he reminds me of both Kessler and Calzaghe. He has excellent skills and if he isn't hiding any weaknesses then I could see him being the best cruiser in future.
There really aren't that many dominant champions that I would be confident in picking over everybody around their weight class. Klitschko is probably the best bet at heavyweight.
