As far as punch output is concerned. Why didn't Roy Jones throw more punches in the first 6 rounds? Was it because he currently only has enough stamina to throw a low # of punches? Or was it because he was trying make the fight better? I only ask because I think his ability to throw a fair amount of punches will be a huge factor in his bout with Calzaghe. Does anyone know how many punches he threw in his previous 2 bouts against Hanshaw and Amaju? I tried finding punch stats on web but couldn't. Anyone have any insight on whether or not Roy will be able to fight the full 12 properly or will his boxing age force him to conserve punches? No flaming, I'd like to know for anyone who has any insight.
He wasn't gonna risk takin chances against Felix when he was winnin handily. that's the way he's won most of his fights. I don't doubt he can go a strong 12 wit Joe C.
^^^Bingo.
They weren't devastating knockdowns, though. The first one was a delayed reaction/equilibrium blow that made Trinidad go down on both knees after like 2 seconds (it was strange). The second knockdown was Roy throwing a straight, Tito coming INTO the punch, and he was knocked off balance (weak knockdown).
I agree Jones could've hurt him after the first knockdown, but I think Jones seemed stronger than Trinidad whenever he connected. The first rounds belonged to Trinidad (if I remember correctly) but afterwards Jones had him figured out. It wasn't lopsided, but you could tell Jones was clearly winning the rounds (if not edging it), and the punches weren't pitty-patty punches, he was hurting Tito sometimes.
Trinidad was dazed after the first knocked down, I think he swayed on his knees before getting back up, if Jones had jumped on him at that point I wouldn't have been surprised if Trinidad got hurt even worse and possibly even getting stopped but I'm not sure if it was Jones not wanting to jump on Trinidad or him not having enough left to put forth a concerted effort to knock Trinidad out.
What I didn't like about Jones in that fight was that when Trinidad pushed forward, Jones went backward without much of a struggle, whether he did this on purpose or not, I do not know.
And I agree, Trinidad won possibly 3 of the first 4 rounds before Jones took over.
I think he was, he didn't even bother jumping on Trinidad when he knocked him down the first time.

Roy Jones has done this throughout his career but it's never been because hw as carrying them. He's just a cautious fighter. Carrying is when you don't wanna hurt the other guy out of respect. If Roy really felt that way he wouldn't have fought Tito in the first place.
I don't think Roy carried Tito. The fight was quite competitive until the later rounds, it was simply a case of Roy doing what he usually did, boxing conservatively to win in the safest, least risky way possible.
I think talk of Roy carrying Tito is just wishful thinking on the part of Roy fans who would like to disbelieve the evidence of their own eyes about how far Roy is gone, in order to find a way to believe he can beat Calzaghe.
If you mean "Gone" in the sense of not being the same fighter that he was from 94-2004, then yes Roy is gone. Then again is Calz the same fighter he was from say 99-2006? No. No fighter is going to be the same ya know. They will have to compensate for a lack of what they once had physically. Do I think Roy has a chance, Absolutely, not because I wanna hold on to what h e was, but becuase there flaws in Calz game that suits Roy. My posts above explain y I think Roy has a chance. Roy didn't carry Tito, Tito was just way above any weight he should ever think about fighting at, and he your right that Roy did exactly what he knew he could do to secure a victory with the least amount of risk. Make Tito come forward and potshot.

he didn't carry shit.dude was gun shy.he thought the same shit many people thought if tito catches him flush he could go down.don't go fronting like he was doing tito a favor when he was being a fucking jackass threw out the fight.he should ktfo tito early.period.and don't give me that bullshit McClellan story.the more a fight goes on the more punches a fighter takes the more the possibility of someone getting hurt badly.getting ktfo with having taken few shots its better than taking twelve rounds of punishment.roy fans be on some delusional shit some times.seriously.what the fuck.
I dont think he carried Tito, and in fact, Tito came out very strong during the first 4-5 rounds.

Whoops, voted wrong.
Offensively yes, but he won't be moving around the ring much. His legs are gone, we'll see how well his new "cover up" style fares against a real challenge.
Nice, I'm just a little concerned with seeing a sort of repeat of the B-Hop fight. Frustrating simply because it seemed Hop had the tools and smarts to beat Calzaghe but a result of his endurance or atleast it seemed he was unable to take advantage. I'd hate to have to watch Jones on his back heels waiting all fight to pull the trigger.
See I think that Jones will be able to pull the trigger. Lets look at it like this, Calzaghe is an ouput fighter. Who throws and throws and throws and lots of times, like we seen in the BHop fight, he throws wild. Jones is a counter puncher by nature. He waits and sits and waits until he see's an opening. Now against Tarver, he didn't see many, and when you look at what he threw, it was when HE was being the agressor, not the counter puncher. Look at round 11-12 and Tarver Jones 1, and round 5 of the Tarver Jones 3 fight. Tarver is a big puncher, he possess 1 punch KO power, point blank. Now, does Calzaghe..............NO. And this is where he will be hurt by his own output IMO. Jones will not be afraid to let his hands go, he will throw when Calzaghe opens up, and he will find a big home for hie patented straight right hand. BHop is a very good counter puncher, but not in the sense of having the ability to land one sharp hard accurate punch with speed and catch a man off balance. His right hand the landed against Calz in his fight wasn't a fast one at all, but sharp and accurate. Throw some speed in there and Calz could be iced. I think, and again it's my opinion, that Jones will have Calzaghe in a freeze at some point in the fight. Calz will be the one who won't be able to get off as Jones will land some clean accurate counter shots that Calz will not like. And if there is one way to beat Calz and to beat him bad it's let him make mistakes and leave himself open for such punches. Calz's defense is his OFFENSE. If he at any point get frozen in there because of Jones ability to land punches when Calz throws, HE"S IN SOME DEEP WATER!!
To add to this, Ive really only notcied one time in which Roy was unable to pull the trigger. That was Tarver Jones 3. He was soo worried about Tarver landing a huge punch that he didn't throw. I think i round 7-8 Jones threw like 7 punches. He just didnt throw anything.
Now Jones V Johnson was totally different. Jones was just pressure way too much and by a thudding puncher in Johnson. When Johnson get ppl on the ropes, he punishes them. The KO was Def. a solid thudding shot the the side almost the back of Jones ear, but Roy was completely layed out when he hit the canvas as hard as he did. Jones tried to only throw to keep Glencoffe from continuing to press forward. Johnson being able to take a mean shot as he always has been, Jones had no chance in that fight, let along coming back from a vicious KO at the hands of a fighter only 4 months prior.

This is the thing, watch Roy's fights over the years, he's always paced himself. Going into the Ruiz fight for instance, he averaged like 34 punches per round. He's never been an output fighters, but one thing he's also never done is waste his punches. He's always landed around 30-40% of his punches. Too say that he cant hang over a 12 round fight to me is a lil preposterous. The guy has fought 12 round 13 times. He's also gone past 10 and either won by KO or TKO another 5 times. So too me, Roy winning this fight by late KO isnt totally out of the question. The guy has always possessed the ability to fight for a full 12. Its just his style of not throwing thatg much that makes ppl think differently.

So you think he'll be able to fight the full 12 rounds?
That wasn't the question in the title, my bad for not reading the whole question. I do believe Jones carried Tito, no doubt about it. As far as being abe to fight the whole twelve rounds, I wonder about that because as he's gotten older, he's taking more breaks and against a guy like Calzaghe, who builds up punch stats with his pitty-pat style, you can find yourself down on the cards early.
What Jones needs to do is get into his rhythm and put something powerful on Calzaghe early to keep his activity in check. If he can establish his feints and get Calzaghe waiting on him instead of vice-versa, he can win the fight.
I know this is a ridiculous question but.. Can someone plse give estimate on the amount of punches per round they think Jones can throw? 50, 80? Lemme know. I'm starting to think Calzaghe isn't neccessarily as guaranteed to win as people might believe.

Hr carried both Tito and Hanshaw, he carried his opponents since 1998 when he knew he could knock them out whenever he wanted. dont think hel do the same against calzaghe though
Ive heard it all now.
Speaking of Roy Jones he called the Manny Pac-DLh fight a joke.
The RJJ-Trinidad fight was a joke. Trinidad was a former welterweight champ fighting a former Heavyweight champ. Not only that Trinidad was 2 1/2 years retired, coming off a loss and a weight class and a half bigger than he ever fought. Roy Jones couldnt even finish him off. So now the stroy is Roy carried him? So you big Roy Jones fans are happy paying 50$ just to watch him carry people? Isnt this boxing? Thats a joke.
Pacman is young and the p4p number 1. Coming up two weight classes to fight DLH. I bet in this fight nobody is getting "carried". Its going to be a real fight.
Which was the joke?

Tarver hits hard, Glen Johnson hits hard.. This might be an awesome fight.
