Similar to Cotto, Cory would likely put on a clinic but would ultimately tire and be stopped.
spinks knows how to clinch, with that being said margarito by late tko
I wish I knew more about the chin of Cory Spinks...
He got KO'd by Judah, but it was anything but a soft punch that put him out. He got absolutely blasted by that left.
Anyway, I don't think the Spinks jab would be enough to keep Margarito off (considering Cotto couldn't keep him off), and he really doesn't have great enough movement to avoid Margarito for 12 rounds.
I would lean towards Margarito KO, because I think he would be able to connect with something big in one of those 12 rounds, but Margarito decision might be a decent call as well.
An interesting and classic clash of styles. Spinks could possibly frusterate Margarito, because he would never let him get set up. Margarito really can not cut off the ring either so unless Spinks trapped himself on the ropes Margarito would not do much damage. If Spinks really wanted to win this fight he would have to throw a little more often then he normally does, which brings in a little extra danger for him also but Margarito would be throwing a lot of leather so he would have to respond. For the most part I think Margarito's wide and sweeping punches would miss the mark while Spinks would land at a very high rate.
On the other hand if Margarito is being active and Spinks is really just moving away throwing jabs and some straight lefts every so often, Margarito can get a decison. Some of the wide punches should land while Spinks is moving around but unless Margarito can get set up I do not think he could put a hurting on Spinks. If Margarito can get in close he will have the better of it and could take Spinks out if he gets inside enough. If Margarito is patient and avoids the frustertion that come with facing Spinks he does have a good shot.
I think Spinks would be winning early, probably enough rounds so Margarito would need a late knockout to win or atleast a couple knockdowns. I do think Margarito would come on in the final third of the fight, I just do not know if that would be enough for him to win unless he caught Spinks with enough good shots early to break him down.
The Spinks of '03 could have probably outboxed Margarito to a decision, or get knocked out in the late rounds.
I was thinking though, if that prime Spinks was good enough to decision a prime Margarito, does that make him HOF worthy?
spink might have actually been one of the worst style matchups for margarito..only problem is spinks fades late and might get roughed up. i think it would be controversal decision
