why did Lennox Lewis wait untill the competition got old before he faced Tyson ,Holyfield ,and then he retired when Vitali Klitschko whooped him
it must be a trait of British fighters
Yes, and he lost. To a Holyfield who was thought to be done. Just a year before that Holyfield looked like a fish deprived of water for three days getting stopped by Riddick Bowe. It was thought that he shouldn't even be fighting anymore at that time.
True. I think the only version of Tyson that would have stood a chance against Lennox was the one that knocked Spinks out in 93 seconds. Post jail Tyson was all done.
Klitschko's face was literaly falling off. Lewis is one of the greatest HW to ever step into a boxing ring. When he was focused, no one could stop him. He avenged all his losses, and stood at one point as the greatest boxer in his era. It's a good thing, the ref stopped the Klitschko fight. I think more damage would be done from the consistent Lewis. And although it seemed as though he was struggling in the fight, he managed to stick through it, and caused the massive damage to Vitali which forced the end to the fight. And that devestating straight right and left hooks were too much for Vitali. To disrespect Lewis, is disrespecting any HW boxing talent that was capable and gifted of doing what Lewis did in his time.
"Before Mike Tyson eats my children, he is going to have to eat my left and my right."
-Lennox Lewis
if he is anything like the fighter he was before he will win, but with his inactivity and age he may not be the same, also the possibility of him getting injured before or during the fight, im hopeful he will be ok
Everyone is responsible for themselves in and before a fight. If Klitschko loses, he knew the risks involved and will have lost to a fighter who was the better man that night.
If Klitschko loses, will it be assumed that the only reason he lost was because of an injury?

Yeah, but Holyfield past prime or not was a seasoned elite professional fighter, whereas Tyson was trying to put himself back together to get back into championship form. His fights against McNeely, Seldon, Mathis jr didn't actually help, against a machine like Holyfield.
Personally, I thought Tyson didn't get the seasoning he needed after spending 3years in the can, then they threw him in with the dogs. There was too much $$$ to be made that's why they rushed putting Tyson in with Holy and Lewis.
I think Don King really thought Holyfield was finished and beating a good name fighter like him would have lent much needed credibility to his return.
yeah but tyson ended up fighting Holyfield that year...so its not like he was avoiding competition.

True, Tyson's prime was '88 but he balked when approached in 1996 for the fight.

:lol1:
Vitali is going to destroy the Nigerian Mongoose, well if he doesnt get injured

Vitali himself was going to reply to this topic but he twisted his knee and has to postpone it over and over before eventually calling it off. Don't worry, he'll wait until I'm gone and then come back to reply later, because he's the emeritus replier to this topic.

Vitali Klitschko's best win was losing to Lewis. Of course Hasim Rahman did something that Lennox simply couldn't and made Vitali Klitschko retire four times without even fighting him.

even if Tyson and Holyfield did avoid Lewis which i dont think they did then i think Tyson and Holyfield did Lewis a favour by not facing him earlier because Lewis would not have the legacy he has now because both of these fighters would have demolished him in their prime
thats true Lewis had a glass jaw Tyson would have gotten him out of there in 2 rounds in his prime and Holyfield would have beaten him by short or long route in his prime
he is one of the most overrated HW ever
you keep ducking my questions,:crackhead
that's not true, Tyson fighting Lewis at his peak would have been brutal..Tyson was undisputed Lewis was fresh out of the Olympics.
Lewis would never have been able to fight Tyson in his prime.

Mike got more $ for the Holyfield fight in '96 and woulda lost to Lennox at that point anyway. In '02 it was the sport's biggest fight but Mike was way past it. Lennox should get cred for beatin Holyfield who had 2 belts, had just upset Mike when he was still borderline prime, and destroyed Moorer in the rematch. He had nothin left after '03, although he shoulda given Vitali a rematch before he walked. Lennox was still a beast tho.

Tyson wouldn't fight him when he was young, in fact Tyson paid off Lewis in 1996, dropped the WBC belt and fought Bruce Seldon instead for his belt. Lewis won a vacated WBC belt against Oliver McCall instead.
Tyson took the Lewis fight in 2002 because he needed money.
Holyfield was favored against Lewis, in fact a lot of people predicted an early KO.
