Does Arum Deserve Credit for Margarito's success?

This idiot Luciano claims arum doesnt give a shit about margarito and that arum was pissed when margarito lost. So i ask you does arum give a shit about margarito and does he deserve credit for margarito's success? Arum has promoted Margarito like crazy for years now! He's reached out to winky, shane, mayweather looking for big fights for him only to get turned down. He secured a match with him last year with miguel cotto and margarito chose to fight his mandatory...lost and yet arum gets him another title shot and then puts him in the biggest fight of the year against miguel cotto and is now the ww champ. So does arum really not give a fuck about margarito? He's been quoted many times stating the importance of mexicans and the ppv they generate. Margarito deserved it and got it.. props to him and Arum, who make real fights Understandable, but beating Margarito who many warrant as a dangerous fighter would've propelled Cotto even further making Cotto vs Oscar that much bigger. In the same sense you can ask why Margarito didn't get a shot at Oscar before Cotto. Was it fear or lack of recognition? You can almost say Margarito is in a similar position as Andre Berto in the sense that they're both champions, but now will be facing the best of the best. Cotto was 1 win away from getting the biggest money fight of his career. Margarito wants and rightfully deserves the same thing, but he still has a little more road to travel to get that recognition regardless of him beating Cotto. Tony stopping Cintron and Cotto kinda made him look like a beast too... uh follow along PRIOR to that, PRIOR, Bob had to actually promote his fighter for a change. He had long set Tony and his team on auto pilot thinking as long as he keeps winning he can use him as a bargaining chip at welter since Tony has a belt and can be used whenever someone says they want the best at welter. He did it with Floyd with Shane with Zab YET whats the one thing those names have in common? NONE of them fought Tony. wouldnt you say thats more a bargaining chip than an actual fighter that Bob wanted to promote? well Tony lost in July of 2007 and it FINALLY got Bob off his ass when it came to Tony. He moved him smart, putting him on a much anticpated card, a welterweight battle to boot, and gave him an opponent to look good against. again nice to know Bob finally did his job even if it was 15 years in the making

Well you have to take into consideration that Top Rank were banking on Cotto winning being he's the more marketable fighter. It almost guaranteed a Cotto vs Oscar fight which would've made huge money and possibly have lured Floyd sometime next year. With Margarito winning Top Rank put themselves in a predicament with Oscar nor Floyd wanting a piece of Margarito whether it be too risky of a fight or not appealing enough considering people still don't really know who Margarito is. So now he's fighting Zab Judah and possibly Paul Williams early next year. Margarito wants that big money fight, but ironically the only guy feasible to give him that payday is a Cotto rematch next year. It's almost a gift and a curse...Margarito wants the big money, but chances are he may not see it for a while if not ever. Top Rank lost big money with Margarito beating Cotto...and I'm one that supports the idea of giving Margarito a big money fight because he deserves it.

Arum doesn't deserve anything. He is a sneaky businessman who uses his fighters as sacrifical lambs to build his investments in other more popular fighters. The most recent example is David Diaz and Antonio Margarito, everyone knew when the Diaz-Pacquiao fight was made that it was just an excuse for Pacquiao to win a belt at lightweight. There was better fights that could've been made but Arum chose to throw Diaz in with Pacquiao. Arum threw Margarito in with Cotto thinking that Cotto would walk all over Margarito. Why was Arum already planning Cotto's next fight and didn't have anything to say about Margarito? But that's the business side of boxing I guess!

It's no secret that Arum gave Beltran fighters better wages, better TV slots, and more of a promotional push than non Beltran managed Mexican fighters like Martin Castillo and Tony Margarito. Guys like Morales, JL Castillo, Jorge Arce, and even JCC Jr all had the type of promotional push a guy like Margarito is only enjoying recently. The fact that Tony's two biggest fights until 2008, his first fight with Cintron and his fight with Williams, were both promoted by other companies and not TR. Tony's hard work, his management team, and his will to succeed is more a reason for his success than TR and more specifically a promoter who hopes you lose your biggest fight Capital muthafuckin' A-men.

i think he does care about him because up to now margarito has been a very solid client for him. but if anyone thinks that arum didnt want margarito to get his ass kicked by cotto well they are blind. cotto was his #1 guy that he thought could really take him to even higher places but margarito ruined that for him lol! now he will go with plan C probably in where he goes with margarito with plans A and B having been for Cotto.

no arum doesn't deserve credit for margaritos success. Margarito did this on his own. But also, Arum saw the potential in him and stuck too him. In other words Margarito would have done this with any promoter and he deserves it. If you're good, you're good no matter who you have on your side and Arum saw this and knew it but that doesn't mean that he deserves the credit for what Margarito did. your wrong you must be new to this sport. You need a promoter to get you going and get you the big fights! A promoter/agent can make you or brake you and that's in any sport.

Of course or he wouldnt have given him Cotto. My question to this thread is Is Margarito a marketable guy?? I know hes a champion but it seems like hes a pug fighter, Being a boxing fan I will pay $50 dollars to watch him fight as well as any other PPV, but what about the casual fan? They barely know who he is and I dont think hes a big draw. Cotto was a bigger draw than margs and spoke english and spanish, plus he was being Sponsored by American Clothing Companies. The biggest draws in Boxing right now are either retired or too old, Cotto was almost a breath of fresh air to boxing as far as commercialism is concerned. Can they Market Margarito as the new staple for boxing or will he forever be a mexicans idol?
