Who has fought the better opponents? John Ruiz or Miguel Cotto?

john ruiz obviously. david tua is better than any fighter cotto has ever faced...... :) Tua has a shit boxing record, gets lucky in the odd fight Cotto is a warrior and skillfull fighter

It's easy to dislike Ruiz cuz he's so boring, but that clouds the number of quality opponents he has on his resume.

It's funny you say that yet John Ruiz never stepped in the squared circle with Tye Fields even though their reigns over the heavyweight divisions coincide. That's why I have to say Cotto, although if Ruiz had the balls to even mention fields in a post fight interview i would change my selection. Very good logic.

I don't think Ruiz ducked anybody. He fought everyone... So my vote goes to Ruiz.

Damaged or not, he'll win a UD. I'm sure of it. He thrives against a guy standing in front of him (Tua). The fights he looks like shit in are against slicksters (Ibragimov, Byrd, Donald). I voted for Cotto just because Ruiz fought some of those past their prime.

So you COULD make an argument that Ruiz fought washed up "name" fighters whereas Cotto fought the fresher comp. Still voted for Ruiz though. THAT... is true. C'mon now, Cotto is 27 and has been a pro for less than 7 1/2 years. Ruiz is 36 and has been a pro for 16 years. John Ruiz has been beat by many legendary fighters, I can't think of anyone that has faced better competition than Ruiz in recent years... I think Holyfield has the best resume of any active fighters.

Ruiz has had a far longer career than Cotto has and even though i don't like Ruiz becuase of what he did in trilogy with Holyfield(crying, grabbing, complaining ect), i must admit that he fought the best of the best and was never really accused of avoiding anyone. I also give him credit becuase he is not the most talented guy in the world but yet managed to get his hands on a title and mutiple times at that. He did it in a boring way, but he did it.
