Man ive been thinking about this for some time and i jus wanted to see wut u guys think.
I watch espn and sportcenter a lot and they hype of a lot of things like NBA finals...world series....even hockey and soccer...but boxing gets only a small portion of tv time. The most hype i eva seen for a fight was may-dlh wen they had mini interviews on espnews...other than that they dont hype of names the way they should and i garantee that if they did ppv number would definetly increase. And ppl would finally say the sport is not dead
As a casual fan, its hard to follow a sport that puts most of its good fights on ppv for a charge of $50. Its even harder to put your support behind a fighter who only fights 2-3 times a year. Imagine if you were a big Michael Jordan fan, and he only played in 3 games per year. You'd be like "fuck that" With other sports, you have the opportunity to tune in a couple of times a week to see your favorite team/s and player/s. Casual fans tend to lose interest due to the lack of free, quality fights.
exactly!!!!! combination of ppv and low quantity of fight is a killer!!! man fuck don king (KING ppv)

This is a very good point and one i didnt think of when i posted earlier, my son who is not 3 until october, has been watching boxing with me since he was old enough to focus on the TV and knows many of the modern boxers names by sight when he sees them on the screen, even if he never goes on to box he will certainly be a fan. Either that or a ninja anyway cos he is obsessed with bloody power rangers ninja storm now!!!
imma have my son the same way
Boxing just needs to be seen. They've completely missed out on the demographic that's most important, the kids. No kid is going to stumble upon HBO on a Saturday night and catch a Kelly Pavlik fight.
Boxing is not dead man, this is just a myth that was put up by some MMA guys to boost their ratings.
I honestly don't care about PPV numbers, if I did I would buy the match and I don't. I will go see it at a friend's house or a pub. You don't need to be concern about these things. Those who need to be concern are the promoters and the commissions and it's clear they don't. All we need to do is enjoy the fights and be happy that the sport is the way it is.
If there is only one thing that I really CARE ABOUT is the WBA,WBC,WBO,IBF,IWO,etc...There should only be one champion

because its free to watch almost every sport in the world except for boxing. you can watch every major game in every sport virtually for free but in boxing you have to dish out $50(for big boxing matches) or go to your local bar on a saturday when ppl usually like to do other things. Boxing fans spend more money than any other fans of any other sport. This is the reason boxing can never be mainstream and will not get the amount of coverage other sports get.
The biggest problem is too much attention given to small men. If the weight classes were raised 20lbs each (we have 19th Century weight standards still), people would be more willing to watch.
I hear so many people laugh off boxing as a sport for undersized people.
Yeah but those people who laugh it off can just watch 160 and up if they really want to.

because boxing does not have THE HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION right now...
once we get him, boxing will be up again
boxing has its moments... ups and downs all the time
when muhammad ali came boxing was down... he brought it up
when mike tyson came boxing was down... he brought it up
then lennox lewis kept it up
now... we will see who the undsiputed linear champ is... he will keep it up
