What people don't realise is that British fans tend to watch British fighters, and that British fighters tend to box in Britain where their audience is. Because Americans are not British, and believe all the best fighters are in America, they see this as being 'protected', but really its no different than the Americans staying at home and boxing where their audience is.
There is no real reason to believe that the likes of Eubank, Benn, Watson, Collins and Calzaghe are on a lower level than their American peers. Just like Hopkins, Jones, Toney etc they all held world titles and fought great matches against each other, in the case of the four I listed, much more than their American counterparts did. It is American hubris to believe that boxers like this are not as good as the American 'greats', the only real difference is that one set of fighters fought in America and the other fought in Britain.
Yeah I totally agree. The majority of american boxing fans are very insulated. It shows when a fight like Calzaghe vs Kessler gets some of the worst ratings on HBO of the year simply because its two European fighters fighting in Europe. Quite sad really but its the reality.
Fellas Fellas.....2 guys noone is given any love too......
How about a prime Stevie Johnston?!?! Talk about talent this kid had it all. Great defensive ability and reallly he was one of the most accurate and sharpest punchers in his time....
Also i gotta give ma main man love....Emanuel Augustus.....This fuckin guy has all the talent in the world...i seen the guy in 2006 @ Foxwoods against Jaime Rangel....The fuckin guy puts on a show everytime he step in the ring regardless of the outcome....We'd had this discussion before the guy is a great guy in and outta the ring, and he's always having fun....One of the most awkward opponents for any fighter too fight, he give ppl fits, and on the inside like we seen against Micky Ward the guy can doo some real damage.....He's a fighter who continually fights great fighters and always has, he don't back down from any fighter and has fought on as little as 1 week notice in the past..He's always in great shape, and he always possess the ability to make ppl miss by rolling there punches and coming back with short crisp counter punches....Another very talented fighter out there who's record doesnt do the man justice by any means!!
i think one of the most TALENTED british fighers who could be considered as one of teh most TALENTED (cant stress enough i just mean talent) would be prince naz...i think talent wise he was superb! my other choices would be rjj, leonard, guzman, ali and loads more
Chris Eubank was extremely talented. Very skilled, elusive, great power and had a granite chin.
It amazes me how British fighters are constantly looked down upon on these boards.
Basically this is a "if you dont say Roy jones, Mayweather or Ali you dont know what you're talking about" thread.
James Toney is far more talented than Eubank thats why Eubank wanted no part of Toney back in the 90's
Eubank did not have great talent he was a good fighter though
Its just the fact that when a British fighter is even suggested, its laughed at. Someone even pre-emptively laughed at the idea of Calzaghe being there before anyone had said it.
Why dont we all just say "Jones, Lenoard, Ali" and all agree with each other and have a big love in. What a fun time. :wank:

My point is that it would not have been laughed at if he hadn't have posted four British fighters only, one of which was Ricky Hatton. (I have nothing against Hatton but he is not overly talented. What he lacks in talent he makes up in determination and heart.)
If the guy had made a reasonable post which included Eubank it would have been fine. Also, I have no problem with putting Calzaghe in that list. He is clearly an exceptionally talented fighter.
I do. Eubank was an extremely good fighter. But one of the most talented in the history of the sport? The guy posted Benn and Hatton as his other two "most talented fighters he has ever seen". I mean come on, seriosuly.
For the record, I love Jones but if you pay attention to my posts you will realise that I manage to contain my bias fairly well. I don't throw around ridiculous comments nor do I confine my posts to simply Roy.

How you can claim you're not biased towards Jones is beyond me with your avatar and constant praising of him in every thread you go on.
Im just sick of seeing people get dismissed if they mention a British fighter as being talented. If its not Roy Jones or Ali or some other american great, people get their opinions laughed at.
So you dont think Eubank was a talented fighter?

He was definitely talented just not among the most talented ever!
How you can proclaim you are not biased is beyond me. Your avatar, sig and every post you make are all tailored around your central aim of championing British fighters at every possibility without consideration or logic.

Howard Davis was very, very talented as well. It's a shame he got sick of his career after a few pro fights, he really could have been great.
Also, Donald Curry and Mike McCallum. Those two were natural boxers.
The obvious picks are Jones, Ali, Leonard, Robinson, Tyson, Meldrick Taylor, Toney, Whitaker etc.
Holy crap! I can't believe not one person has not mentioned maybe the most talented fighter or certainly among the most talented. Hector 'Macho' Camacho. He ended up wasting most of it, but, he was undoubtedly as talented a fighter as has ever been in the ring. He had everything you could want. Speed in gallons, combinations, footwork, defense and a hard chin, decent power and good stamina.
With the fighters he fought and never having been even down. He didn't even reach half his potential either the stupid bastard!

it really is absurd!
