He is famous for being a boxer, for being pound for pound no. and champ in many weight divisions, having an unbeaten record. That isn't famous for being famous. Boxing is a second tier sport, in terms of popularity, and the average person can barely name many first-tier sport stars. On every boxing forum I go on Mayweather is still discussed daily. Sure he retired a month ago but who thought that when he retired he would just fade away and never be discussed again from one instant to another?
