Calzaghe beat the man (Hopkins)....that beat the man (Tarver)....that beat the man (Jones)....that never beat the man (Michalczewski).
so...that makes Zsolt Erdei the best lhw?he beat the man (gonzalez) who beat the man (michalczewski)
sweet
it's up for grabs at the moment i consider the title at lhw vacant since tarver lost to hopkins cause hopkins was not the best lhw and joe calzaghe isn't either.they should have a tounament just like the heavys should
Wait, so you considered Tarver the #1 LHW, and he was smoked by Hopkins, and Hopkins was beaten by Calzaghe. But now they should have a tournament because you don't like Calzaghe?
Look at the poll, many consider him to be #1.
Only guys like Slick have him at number 2 which is OK because I respect his opinion. So do I, but I'm just wondering why "it makes no sense" to have Calzaghe #1 in his opinion.
You know I agree with you that Dawson actually is the best of the current crop at LHW, but the fact remains that Calzaghe has the best win at the weight. Yes Hopkins was 43 but he was the Ring champ and he was the highest ranked LHW. Basically its as simple as that.
Dawson has more, but Calzaghe has the best. Shouldn't really have called you biased though, sorry.
No problem at all :fing02:, feel free to state your opinion. Thats what we are here for.
Yes, Mayweather had a FEW fights at welterweight. Calzaghe only had one fight in the division and now hes ranked over guys that accomplished more there and actually earned their spots? I have never heard anything like that before.
When PBF beat Baldomir, the man to beat at the time, wasn't he considered #1 in WW?
You said right there, how can he be the best LHW by beating Hopkins, that makes no sense, I'm gonna say this for the last time, Hopkins was the man to beat, that's why it makes sense for Calzaghe to be #1, PBF moved to WW, he only had a few fights on WW, but he was considered the man to beat, even though there were people with better resumes than him at WW.

Eric Harding was ranked 10# by the ring magizine when Dawson beat him.
Adamek was ranked #5 by the ring magizine when Dawson beat him and was the WBC light heavyweight champion. Glen Johnson was ranked at #3 when Dawson beat him. Where am i biased? Dawson beat the best names(Other than Tarver and Johnson but both have been on the lossing end) and its fair for Calzaghe to be ranked at number 1? Even when he has only beaten a 43 year champion which was his only fight in the division? No offense to you at all but thats make exactly no sense to me.

I still think roy or dawson could beat him. I don't see how calzaghe beating a really old hopkins makes him the best LHW. that makes no sense.
I don't know if I put it like that. I thought I was pretty clear in stating that he beat an old hopkins so how does that make him the best LHW. its his only LHW fight to date.
That is a wildly biased opinion I'm afraid. Hopkins was the Ring champ, ranked P4P and seen as the man. Also, Dawson hasn't done anything better than Tarver has, and his biggest win at the weight is not as good as Joe's is.

I know, but it was very extreme to where you said, "it doesn't make sense to put Calzaghe #1" That's a pretty strong opinion, basically saying it's wrong to have Calzaghe #1.

Dawson is the best light heavyweight both skill and accomplishments wise. There is no way you can have one fight in the division over a 43 year Hopkins and expect to be the best light heavyweight. Dawson has done more in the division and is cleary the better light heavyweight.

No, you ASSUME they can beat everyone in their division, and you're ASSUMING Calzaghe can't beat everyone in his division.
yes exactly, that is my OPINION.
the difference is those guys are not only the best on paper but abilities wise as well. they will beat everyone in their divisions and the same cannot be said about calzaghe at lhw.No, you ASSUME they can beat everyone in their division, and you're ASSUMING Calzaghe can't beat everyone in his division.
Well yea, Pavlik is the man at MW, Cotto is the man at WW, Haye is the man at Cruiser, but they all can't fight everybody in the division, just because Pavlik hasn't fought Wright or Abraham, Cotto hasn't fought Williams or Berto, or Haye hasn't fought Cunningham or Amadek, it doesn't mean they are not "the man" in their division, when it comes to things like this, you have to look on paper because that is the only way, like I said, you can't fight everybody in the division.

if you're talking about ON PAPER, than calzaghe is #1 and he is ranked that on every lhw ranking, there is no question about that, but if you want to talk about reality, than hopkins was not the best fighter in that division abilities wise, he was spent by the end of the 1st round iun the calzaghe fight. sure calzaghe beat the man that beat the man, that only makes him #1 on paper.Well yea, Pavlik is the man at MW, Cotto is the man at WW, Haye is the man at Cruiser, but they all can't fight everybody in the division, just because Pavlik hasn't fought Wright or Abraham, Cotto hasn't fought Williams or Berto, or Haye hasn't fought Cunningham or Amadek, it doesn't mean they are not "the man" in their division, when it comes to things like this, you have to look on paper because that is the only way, like I said, you can't fight everybody in the division.
