I cannot recall a better performance in the last 10 years than that of Manny Pacquiao against David Diaz.
Its easy to get carried away with a fight like that but lets put it into perspective, Pacquiao was fighting a guy who was on paper much bigger, stronger and a real force in the Lightweight division yet he comprehensively outboxed, out punched, and out fought the guy.
I have watched the fight twice now and it is almost a flawless performance with Pacman putting on a boxing master class by out jabbing Diaz, leading off with switch hitting lefts, lead hooks and counter lefts. Diaz in every aspect was second best and was beaten up round by round.
Considering the weight factors this for me is the greatest single performance of the last ten years. We can talk about Mayweather v Gatti or Calzaghe v Lacy etc but this eclipses those and many more.
Diaz is a very good fighter yet he was made to look average.
I will be honest here, the people picking against mayweather were more concerned with what would happened if gatti got off and landed, if the fight turned into an actual fight toe to toe, gatti would brutalize mayweather, but that didint happen.
the mayweather hate trail didint start until judah lost and margarito jumped into the picture.
this place around 03-05 was actually very welcoming to mayweather, as he was seen as the most underrated top fighter in the game.
Thats true am just use to people picking against Mayweather just because they hate him, And its true they have been doing that since he fought Judah.
I actually read on here how Gatti would break Mayweather's bones because Buddy Mcgirt trains him now and he KO Dorin and so and so Blah blah blah.
Nope the people that lets hate rules their heart when picking a fight which involves Mayweather.

Are you responding to me?
If so when did I mention Hatton?
Also IMO that was the standout performance for many a year, that doesn't mean I'm touting Hatton because I'm not, it means as a fan and participant in the sport of boxing for over 25 years I have great respect for a fighter who can move up the weights, adapt his style and still dominate a legitimate world champion.
I have no hidden agenda here and I'm not disputing that there have been better fights or that some, perhaps most people will disagree with me but when you take into account that Pacquiao was known for his fighting ability more than boxing ability than it looks more immpressive.
Fighters more than stand out boxers obviously find it harder to move up the weights, why?, because the rely on their power and their ability to out strength an opponent.
Boxers on the other hand find it easier because their style lends itself to be able to adapt without having to stop someone in their tracks with power shots.
Therefore the manner in which Pacquiao outboxed and basically beat up the knocked out Diaz was extremely immpressive to me.
Thats a true and interesting statement.
Lmao this is bs in the last 10 years? perhaps/proberly is a good word but dam keep your opinion to urself lol this sounds like such a hype job.
But with some of your points i agree but i dont think you should start mentioning ricky hatton because we all know he failed everytime he moved up because of his lifestyle.
So once you compare pacman to hatton your jus proving your hyping pacman so when hatton beats him he looks very good which is stupid.

Calzaghe - Lacy - to everyone outside of the States Calzaghe was the favourite anyway and he was already a proven strong SMW. He outboxed him but didn't close the show.
Mayweather - Corrales - They were both of similar weight, Mayweather had not jumped up three divisions to fight him.
Mayweather - Gatti - I mentioned this fight in my previous post, a matter of opinion.
that was a fucking great responce lol...you owned them!!!
p.s. i too thought it was an astonishing display of boxing!!!!
Well there was alot of people who said Gatti would win, Diaz isnt the best 135fighter out there today and Gatti wasnt the best 140 out there when PBF fought him either, So to call the pacman performance the best in the last 10 years is over stretching it abit.
Calzaghe destroy Lacy...too many examples in the last 10 years me think.
Although Calzaghe vs Lacy is an obvious cliche, it is that for a reason. Lacy was meant to destroy Calzaghe. Not beat him, destroy him. Knock him out within a few rounds. That was the consensus from nearly every boxing fan, expert and writer apart from the few outside America who had been following Calzaghe.
If you took what Pacquiao was meant to do to Diaz, which is exactly what he did, and reversed it and Diaz put a monstrous one sided pure beatdown full of amazing skill and boxing brilliance, that would be what Calzaghe did Lacy. In that light it makes Pac vs Diaz pale into insignificance. Pacquiao looked great at doing what he was supposed to do. There is nothing overly extraordinary about it.
The thing I found great about it was that it was the first time Pac had really gotten to showcase the new right hook he was supposed to have learned. He used it to great effect in the fight and I think that was the punch that hurt Diaz more than the left that KO'd him.
Calzahge V Lacy
Pre-fight Lacy was touted as a destroyer , invincible - its only now that he is recognised as over rated - there was a real fear in certain quarters in the UK that Joe would get badly hurt by Lacy -
I honestly cannott remember a better display of skill over an opponent in the last decade than what Joe did that night - 1006 punches landed , 7 punch combinations - speed, movement etc - maybe a late round KO was missing but for me that would have made it a less than perfect fight.
Joe's day of days
( and I dont even like him )

Gatti's relatives I presume???
Pacquiao is not washed up and Oscar is past HIS prime. It's a doable and interesting fight IMO. The size don't matter, Pac is as tall as Forbes and Stevie took Oscar 12 rounds. After Hatton, Pac vs Oscar is the biggest money fight in boxing history, again.
I think you are overlooking one big factor here. Forbes was set up for Oscar because he is nearly impossible to KO or even hurt and has a great defense and fights similar to Mayweather. If Oscar can connect with one solid left hook on Pac, it is goodnight.
Pacquiao would need to jump up to around 150 pounds as Oscar will not get down to 147 ever again. At that weight no matter how old Oscar is at the moment he would just be way too much for Pac. He takes too many flush shots and against Oscar, who is still reasonably fast and can box better than Pac, one left hook connected solidly to Pac's chin would be all it would take to KO him. Pac also wouldn't be able to hurt De La Hoya. No one has been able to really hurt him apart from Hopkins who is basically a light-heavyweight!
As for it being the biggest in boxing history, lets not go over board here. Pac is a big draw and against Oscar, who is the biggest draw, it would be a huge fight. Nonetheless, it would not do anywhere near as much as Hoya vs Mayweather or even as much as Hoya vs Hatton would do. Great numbers and possibly even an interesting fight while it lasted but it would still turn out to be a mismatch.
Floyd - Corrales was fantastic.
Floyd - Gatti. WTF?????
Who the hell thought Gatti would get past round 6? Did anyone?
Can we keep it realistic please.

Its very realistic.
That performance is better than the Corrales fight. Corrales is undefeated but PAC is moving up in weight.
Corrales wasnt knocked out to dream land he still wants to continue. its logical to stop it but Corrales was on his feet after the stoppage diaz was bigger and was KTFO.
1st fight at 135. realistic? :haha:

well...
all i can say is Thats the BEST Performance of a fighter moving up in weight againts a champion.
The best performance of a fighter againts the BEST in a division directly above him.
PAC vs MAB ( 2003 )
:D
