Juanma Lopez: "Ive spoken to Vasquez about a fight next June"

According to a phone interview held with Juanma Lopez and Israel Vasquez on 6/24/08, they have spoken several times about the possibility of a fight in June 2009. Vasquez also stated that this fight is possible if the timing is right. In the interview Juanma stated "I respect Vasquez and what he has done, but I would be the bigger man, and the stronger man. If I had to choose between Vasquez, Marquez, and Conception, I want Vazquez!" Juanma was also asked about young Mexican prospect Abner Mares. Juanma stated "Abner Mares has not deserved a fight with me. I am ready for names of significance and Abner Mares is not that. Maybe in a couple years when he has developed his name in the boxing world." Juanma is looking to defend his title sometime in the near future but did not specify against who or when. Juanma was also asked about a rematch with Daniel Ponce Deleon and he stated "Daniel Ponce DeLeon hasn't expressed a desire to fight me again. If that is what the fans want to see, then we can do it, but I havent heard that anyone is interested in seeing a rematch considering that I got rid of him as quick as I did". That would be nice to see. I allways love it when someone clears up a division. But like I told u IZZY and Marquez are too much for him Im gonna have to disagree with Vasquez. Marquez on the other hand may be a little more difficult. I think Juanma takes Vasquez out. Juanma is also significantly bigger than them both. Juanma will probably end up at 130 or so.

Juanma is a cocky little shit. He's gonna clear out 122 and do the same at 126. That would be nice to see. I allways love it when someone clears up a division. But like I told u IZZY and Marquez are too much for him

Raf and Izzy will make JuanMa their bitch. Rafa might, Izzy may have trouble with the little firecracker. Juanma is a tough SOB and he has what it takes.... We all know he has enough power for people to be worried. He is young, hungry, powerful, southpaw, and above all very technically sound. He is also significantly bigger than both of them.

oh great we have another lil mayweather. he is already coming up with his " he aint a big enough name". What have u done? you just won a world title dont act like ur the big shit now. Maybe after beating Vazquez u can talk like that but i doubt u get past him Well, Juanma said alot more in that interview about Mares, but he did say that Mares' career path has not developed in the manner that it has for Juanma... I think he has a point. Ive been watching Mares for a while now, and besides the fact that he jumped back down to 118, I dont think that he can handle Juanma at this point in his career, he needs more exposure and experience. Juanma mentioned that once Mares' career develops more and he gets the experience he needs, the fight is bound to happen.

I fight between juanma and vas. would be action filled fight cause of vas. style comin forward all the time.. be excitin to watch would be a close fight to call cause it'll be a tough fight for juanma but my boy quick inside right hook is dangerous..

Juan Manuel Lopez seems like a great young fighter, but if he gets in with Vasquez at this point, Juanma will be the next Vargas! The more I think about it, the more confidence I have that Vasquez is the correct choice for Juanma. Juanma KOs Vasquez late in an entertaining back-and-forth match.

That and Vasquez has probably slowed considerbly due to the Marquez wars. I'd bet points on Lopez too. Larios was managing to outbox Vasquez before he got caught in the 3rd and got a huge ass cut stopping the fight right away.

if juanma want's to be like vargas go for it go for the tigers and get killed. He wouldn't though. Vasquez has been fighting smaller men recently. Juanma is the bigger man AND he's a boxer. He can move and cause Vasquez all sorts of problems.

Juanma has a great chance of not only beating but KOing Vasquez. Lets all remember that at his 22nd fight, Wilfredo Gomez KOed Carlos Zarate. Ive said it before and I'll say it again, Juanma will be a huge force in the boxing world.... he will dominate 122 and later 126 I agree with you. I have nothing but respect for Vazquez, so my opinion, while it may seem extreme, is not intended to show disrespect to Vazquez. Vazquez is a damned good fighter, I just think Lopez is a friggin monster. I've been following him for awhile now, since early 2006, and the kid has really shown me a lot. Great timing, great technique, good power and overall speed. His timing has impressed me since day one...that right hook is just now getting the attention it deserves.

Vazquez isnt as versatile as Marquez is, he just a beast with excellent skill. of course he is no mindless wild swinging brawler, but out of Marquez and Vazquez, Vazquez would present less problems to a fight who is just coming up. Marquez would be a tougher puzzle to solve.
