The 1st fight: Quintana clearly, and with a fair amount of ease outboxes Williams to take a good, clear UD.
The 2nd fight: Williams catches Quintana and Carlos never recovers. Williams wins by KO1.
Quintana was not dominated in the 2nd fight, just got caught and never recovered. I thought it was an either way fight, and didn't really have a pick, but the outcome suprised me. Quintana has the skill to keep it close, and beat, or lose closely to Williams if he doesn't get caught/keeps his hands up. Who wins the 3rd fight?

I think a 3rd fight is warranted...i mean in all honesty its only fair.
quintana beat him first...williams came back and won the second fight i think a 3rd fight would be the best solution to avoid all future disputes.
In a 3rd fight i see Williams decisioning quintana in a close SD or close UD.
Paul williams i believe has learned to stay on the outside and utilize his jab to keep quintana away (from what i seen in that short round and only round of the fight)...it williams were to continue with such gameplan he can win a decision in my opinion.
Had williams used the jab and stayed on the outside in the first fight he could have won it.
i think that was the deciding factor...he just fought small and quintana took full advantage.
Williams by Decision.
But its safe guessology, because you are right, Quintana has never really looked like a serial killer, and at best has been SURPRISING. While I think Quintana would stop Cintron, Cintron has looked SENSATIONAL before (i.e. Mathyesse)
The tune you sing in is the truth, sir. Ha.
I see the logic there, but he didn't look like a shark who smelled blood after getting spanked by Cotto. I mean, while Quintana didn't look like a shell of himself after the fight with Miguel, he's never come out the gates looking like an animal, either. You're right, we'll have to wait and see...but I think Cintron has more pride than Quintana, and will try and prove himself after his last performance. Of course, that's not based on anything but my random guessology.

Good post.
About Quintana being a bit too timid, while its possible, we'd have to wait and see. Williams looked so dejected after the first fight, and so discouraged that it at times was hard for me imagining him getting anything but stopped late, but he came in fucking hungry! Its possible that Carlos comes too gun-shy, its also possible that he comes to kill.

Not right now, there are too many other good fights at Welter, he don't deserve it, the way he got clobbered last night. He needs to take a couple fights to build back his confidence and marketability.
Does Quintana deserve a rematch? Yes, of course he does. We're talking about a man that, over the majority of thirteen rounds, beat a young welterweight champion. Out of those thirteen rounds it was only the first round of their rematch in which he was clearly demolished; and that was a KO. So, as far as entitlement goes...Quintana deserves a second chance as much as Williams did, right?
Do I want to see a rematch? While I find the idea intriguing- settle the question over who is truly better (if there is any) I'd rather see Paul move on. I mean, if you really want to stop a rubber match from being necessary a first round blow out is the easiest way. Lewis-Rahman II is brought to mind. Lennox had better things to do that fight someone who he had just knocked clean out - even if that man had knocked him out a few months prior.
Who would I pick to win? If Carlos was caught like that in the second fight, it can happen again - but the majority of rounds they have battled go to Quintana, so Williams has to prove that, without catching him, he can win a third fight, right? Well, I think Paul will come into a 3rd fight brimming with confidence...while Quintana will be timid. Too timid. The first few rounds he'll allow Williams to take, dish out damage, and he'll either get stopped in the mid rounds or drop a decision.
Good post.

I wouldn't say Roy was dominated in the 2nd Tarver fight, no. Roy probably won the first round, though it was exetremly uneventful, and the second was going fine, with nothing of note happening. But then he got caught, and didn't recover and got cleanly knocked out. The same thing happened with Quintana in the second fight, he got caught and dazed and knocked out. Nothing that happened before either knockout indicated dominance, but I suppose its fair to say Quintana was domianted because nothing else aside from getting knocked out happened.
fair enough.....
So would you say Roy was never dominated in the 2nd tarver fight?
Especially because he won the 1st round and was winning the 2nd...
Cuz what your saying would pretty much mean you would believe that also...

If Williams can't get a fight with Cotto or anohter top name than yes. But he has his belt back and he may just move on. Quintana fought a great fight in the first one. But Williams came out in the second bout and blew Carlos out of the waters. After the first two exchanges where he had success he got over confident and got blasted for it.

no, i dont. i want to see mosley/pw. it is time for pw to put up or shut up.
If anything was exposed... It was Williams UNDERRATED power, and Quintanas OVERRATED ability to take it...
Williams has decent power, he's not really a big puncher....It was just a case of Williams catching Quintana with a perfect shot and Quintana never recovered...Quintana took Williams' punches well in the first fight
Dude that is a horrible comparison. Montel winning via DQ after he had already been dropped is not equivalent to Quintana clearly beating and outclassing PW's in his win.
Not to take anything away from PW but it was a very good shot that won him the fight. But it all came from that one shot which Quintana never recovered from. The round was pretty much even till that point.
Thats why I started my post off with
"PEOPLE THINK...."
Me not being one of them...
People think montell griffin was winning the first fight... and what did roy do in the rematch?
CLEAR UP THE CONFUSION.
Same thing happened with Paul.
Nobody wanted a montell rubber match, and we dont need a Quintana rubber match.
When you beat someone by 4 points, then they knock you out in 2 minutes.
Shit, Ill take it though... line up the bets again...
Case Closed.

Williams is overrated....He was fortunate enough to catch an overconfident Quintana early and Quintana never recovered.
Quintana exposed Williams in the first fight and schooled him.
I think we would see a more determined Quintana in a trilogy and he would school Williams again.

Griffin-Jones I and II is not a valid comparison. Roy controlled the first fight and was on his way to knocking Griffin. Paul pretty much got dominated in his 1st fight.
THats why I said.... some think...
If you were to talk to those sum.... its quite comparable...
I myself wouldnt mind a III fight... but its not necessary.. as some say.
