We all know how much of a great boxer he is, and he can certainly take a shot. But I couldn't help thinking if he slowed down a bit and fought Hatton again at 140lb and the ref allowed them to fight in close, could he have taken the punishment Hatton handed out on Lazcano.
A lot of IF's I know, but if he was ever in a situation where he kept getting caught do you think he could tough it out and keep firing back.
In first Castillo fight Floyd started to trade in the last 4 rounds, going to the head while Castillo was going to the body. Those bodypunvhes looked hard, but Floyd contined to make effort with his own punches. Gosh, that was tough.
Contrary to popular belief, toughness does not equal in-ring retardedness.
One does not need to be lured into a streetfight in order to be considered tough.
In my book, you are tough when you deal with adversity and pain without resorting to anything out of character and without backing away from your gameplan.
Floyd has shown time and again that he won't bother himself with controversy and rough times in the ring, he just keeps going no matter what.
Getting caught, bullied, rabbit punched, low blowed etc.. it doesn't matter, he'll continue doing exactly what he should be doing; winning. And winning on his terms.
That is toughness.
you just made 2 very good posts, i totally agree.
Another limited mind showing no signs of advanced thought processing.its the only way i feel superior too.....
behind a pc...
im picturing someone called kelvin, has a parting in his hair, wears black spectacles and turn up trousers probably 33 and lives with his sick mother..........
with a penchant for all things beastial
now stop shouting you halfwit i have a terra patrick movie freshly downloaded and it is awaiting my attention
He has seemed pretty tough so far. Fighting injured, coming back from being hurt, fighting a guy much bigger than him and winning, KOing a guy with fans baying for you to lose.
I'd like to see him win from being badly hurt, but he's been too good and too cautious to need to do that thus far.
tough and mayweather in the same sentence ummhhhhhhhhh...........
lamotta, duran, dempsey etc would be aptly described as tough, mayweather is just a great boxer he wont ever be in a war,his style doesnt allow it

That will NEVER happen because Floyd isnt a dumb as fighter.
Hes smart.
Boxing= sweet science= hit and not get hit.
What kind of question is this???
If Mayweather slowed down a bit??
Do you understand how fucking fast and explosive Mayweather is at 140.
Hes faster and has more power..he would absolutely beat the shit out of Hstton worse then he did at 147.
Okay Burner, no need to get excited.

Agreed. Especially when the result is that the man never loses.

The whole point of boxing is not to take punishment, but floyd does have a chin, he took a bomb in round 11/12 against de la hoya and kept trading, plus he had no arm in castillo 1 and spent the rest of the fight turning southpaw, and still won (fuck what people think they saw, he won the fight) so maybe.
To be honest, i hope we dont have to find out, mayweather isnt that kind of fighter.
every fighter knows how to deal with pain in the ring
we cant tell whether floyd can deal with being hurt, but he'll never risk putting himself in that situation
i hope cotto breaks his fucking face
As I said, it's hard to say how he would react. He did OK when he was stunned against Corley though.
Hard to say, every person reacts differently.
Mayweather does know how to deal with pain during a fight though. every fighter knows how to deal with pain in the ring

How tough is he? Given his skills and boxing ability...tough enough. Maybe later in his career his abilities will degenerate enough to reveal how stout his chin is..or how much of a beating he is willing to take. But then he wouldn't really be the "pretty boy", now would he.
He should retire long before we find out how tough he is....that's not his game.
he's not tough
he hasnt shown that he's tough
being skillful and tough are 2 different things
and taking a punishment doesnt not qualify you for being tough
Absolutely.
It's foolish to suggest a fighter will get to the top without having the tools and intangibles to match.
You only need to look at his face during incoming fire; he's so calm and calculated it's scary.
People tend to overlook the fact that Mayweather has a very physical type of defense.
He blocks and takes glacing shots all the time, without ever looking uncomfortable.
He is tough, no doubt about it.
Ask Hatton.
Floyd ain't the kinda fighter that's built for takin punishment. As P4P king he gets compared to Roy a lot, and when RJ was the man he was literally untouchable. When he got older, he lost his elusiveness, and his chin was there for the takin. Floyd needs his defense just as much as his offense to win his fights. Speed keeps him winnin, not a good chin. If he ever got into a brawl wit a slugger he'd likely get KO'd.
